Carlos88LCFC Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Sound like the new Yak to me. The famous 'he only scores goals' quote springs to mind. Sounds like Eric Cantona to me! Great signing if that turned out to be the case!
Wilson_6 Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 "Very poor on one on ones, he will struggle as Leicester will struggle. He looked good for us as we were a good team and he had good service" My favourite quote from the Brighton board. This is brilliant!
indierich06 Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 One thing that I don't think has yet been mentioned is that we have secured our number 1 target. I can imagine that Ulloa is feeling pretty pumped-up about the way Pearson pursued him, and has kept coming back until he got his man. This will hopefully have a really positive effect on Ulloa for the start of the season... Well, to be fair, we haven't yet I'll be a lot more interested once I see him holding up the new City shirt on the OS - who knows, they might even get a picture on there before Christmas.
Leicesterpool Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 I'm not sure about this deal, £7million for a championship striker whose never played in the premier league. Nigel really must have faith in this lad to do it in the premier greed. Mind you we paid £1million for a non league player and he's turned out a treat.

cgull Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 If all else fails Ulloa is a fine actor who quite frankly should be the next James Bond, with Upson onboard to I'm sure there will be some fine thespian performances put on in the hotel on away days. This is clearly a factor in the price tag. Clearly the stage plays Ulloa and Upson will perform will be beneficial to squad morale and will eliminate boredom and fear whilst staying on the Kings Rd prior to the Chelsea away humiliation. This explains the arrival of Upson, everything is falling into place. You may or may not know this but Ralph Brown of Withnail and I fame who features in your avatar is a Brighton supporter and posts on North Stand Chat.
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Hopefully he'll sign today! He's staying in Spain with his family til next week apparently then coming here for talks
Xen Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Hopefully he'll sign today! Sky sports reckon he's visiting family in Spain until Sunday, then coming to England to begin talks with us, so things could go quiet again until then. Haven't checked if they've published that online, but that's what they said this morning on TV. I reckon he'll be announced as a Leicester player on Tuesday.
Bettsj2 Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Radio 5 just said that he's flown back to England today. Very happy with this signing. He'll contribute to the team massively.

Nigel really must have faith in this lad to do it in the premier greed. Mind you we paid £1million for a non league player and he's turned out a treat. I wouldn't get hung up on the transfer fee. McCormack for £11m. Pelle for £8m. Ulloa for £7m. This is the going rate for a striker (under contract) who hasn't played in the Premiership. Of those 3 deals I reckon ours looks like the best value at the mo. It's an inflated market at the moment - nothing we can do about that but suck it up.
skegness fox Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Dont get why people are worried about the price tag, if top has said they are going to put 180 million into it over the next 3 years we will be looking back saying this is small change! Ulloa is 27 and should have three years of prime football in him and is just the type of striker we need, with service from knocky mahrez and albrighton he will score goals!

Fox Ulike Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 They never said they would spend £180m. Yeah he did. "It will take a huge amount of money, possibly 10bn Thai Baht (£180m), to get there. That doesn't put us off." Srivaddhanaprabha added: "I am asking for three years, and we'll be there.
chapero82 Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Yeah he did. "It will take a huge amount of money, possibly 10bn Thai Baht (£180m), to get there. That doesn't put us off." Srivaddhanaprabha added: "I am asking for three years, and we'll be there. he never actually said that, even Pearson said he was there and he never mentioned money or the target of within 3 years etc Yeah he did. midland_red Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Seems a lot for someone whose never played in the PL but.......you have to trust NP's judgement. He got us here and has repeatedly said he is working to a plan
Rasmic123 Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 bit sceptical about this, £7million is a lot for someone who is 27, has never played in the prem and didnt really set the championship alight last season but hopefully he'll do well for us and get some decent service. I'll withhold judgement until the season begins though as NP knows what he's doing. Also, does this spell the end for Wood then?

Fox Ulike Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 he never actually said that, even Pearson said he was there and he never mentioned money or the target of within 3 years etc I doubt that the BBC would have reported it word-for-word had he not said it. What about this: He said it, then realised it was a stupid thing to say and so tried to pretend tht he hadn't said it. That seems a whole lot more likely that the BBC just making the whole thing up.
artursteppe Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 With everyone complaining that we are buying a player who has never played in the Prem, I am starting to get really worried. Forget the fact that Kevin Phillips got 30 goals in his first season in the Prem, YES, he had never played in the Prem before, but maybe he could have got 60 goals if he had. What should we do, get rid if Wes, Was, Richie, Danny, Andy, Jamie, Anthony, Riyad, Liam and all the under 21s as well. OMG, DON'T PANIC Mr Mainwaring. What an absolute load of tosh. These same people actually think Jamie Vardy will do well, because he is already ours, but this new guy won't. Bizarre!
Filbert_Ross Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 The irony of 7 million breaking a record is that everyone seems to be going about it like a broken record. Pearson looks to have got his man, who cares if 'it seems a lot'
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 I don't believe any of us can comment on Ulloa's ability, strengths and weaknesses, until we have seen him play a good few games for us. Granted 7.5 million quid is big money for us, but the guy may be worth it. We will have to wait and see.
Fox92 Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 If there's one thing I hate it's the term, "Premier League experience"... Don't all players have to start somewhere? People suggest names like Wickham, "oh he's got Premier League experience", yeah and where did Sunderland buy him from? That's right, Ipswich Town of the Championship. We can't just go out and buy Premier League players. It doesn't work like that, this is not football manager. Also, sometimes there's hardly a difference at the bottom end of the table. I mean, plenty of players have made the step up so well... I mean, the likes of Charlie Adam, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Luke Shaw have secured moves to big clubs and they were only Championship players less than five years ago. It's funny how the same people panic. I'm fine with it though, I'll always back a Nigel Pearson signing. 95% of the time, he gets it spot on. He's the man that has guided us to the top flight for the first time in ten years, it's him who has created this "problem", get behind him ffs - I get fed up of the same people moaning.
