bluebeau Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 I have just seen on SSN that Man City are clearing out all of their British players including Gareth Barry, Julian Lescott, Micah Richards etc. How can a team full of foreign players be allowed to play in the English Prem. or the Football League. I wouldn't feel any allegiance to LCFC if the squad was 100% foreign players. When does a English football team no longer be looked upon as a English football team? As much as I don't like Hull City, I wanted them to win the FA Cup because their team consisted of a large proportion of British players as opposed to Arsenal who I think started with just one, Aaron Ramsey! At present our squad consists of mainly British players, as did MON's teams when he was our manager. How would you feel if NP filled our squad with all foreign players?
DennisNedry Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 I like our squad dynamic. Mostly good British players, with a couple of french flair wingers, a couple of solid wing backs, and the Great Dane in goal
DennisNedry Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 Compelling stuff. He had a whole first post about Man City getting rid of the remaining British players they had. He's edited it out for some reason, maybe the info was incorrect.
LanguedocFox Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 I like the balance of our present team. I wouldn't like a wholly non-British/English team, but having half a dozen good European players like Kasper, Was, Knocky and Riyad adds something special to the mix.
johnny the fox Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 I don't mind foreign players as long as they don't live next door to me..
Kitchandro Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 I would definitely prefer it if we had English players in the side. I was thinking the other day how shit it was that the Champions of England had no English players in.
Harry - LCFC Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 Think I'd find it hard to associate with an entirely non-British team.
bluebeau Posted 18 May 2014 Author Posted 18 May 2014 No Kitchandro, the reason it was edited, was because I duplicated the posting & when I tried to delete one of them, I completely FKD up!!!
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 I think one of the problems Arsenal have had over the last 9 years is that they haven't had any decent British players down their spine until recently. Most teams that are successful tend to have a few British players who might not be as good as those from other countries that they are playing alongside but they get what English football is about. With multi millions you can compensate for a lack of British players by buying the very best but I think it's still important to have that British influence on your side in the same way that it is important for Spanish sides to have a Spanish influence etc. Watching the final yesterday as the players were coming out you could see in the faces of Bruce and Davies that this really meant a hell of a lot to them, as you could when they scored. Compare it with the Arsenal players and it looked almost like just business. The exception to this? Ramsey and Wilshere who were clearly made up to be winning it. So, yes, I think it's important and I'd always like Leicester to maintain a British element to the team.
Leicesterpool Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 It's mainly an english team, you can't really say british because there's no other British nation player in team! You can't count Andy King he may play for Wales but he was born in Barnstable! I hate when people say there's not enough british players in the premier league, i agree to the extend but what they should say really is there's not enough ENGLISH! players in the premier league. That's who we should be concerned about!
LCFCDannyB Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 I hate to be a pain in the arse but it was 2 British players Ramsey and Gibbs
Dan Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 We've got a lot of good English players at the minute but I expect our number of them to go down if we progress as a team. Like it or lump it but England don't develop as many quality players as foreign sides do and whilst quality English players are overpriced, as well as pretty rare (compared to other countries), then it's no wonder the league is full of foreign players. 32% of the Premier League is English. Under a third. That is the kind of stat I'd expect of a league like Qatar.

I would find it difficult for sure I would hate such a thing to happen at our club, to be fair to Arsenal they have got better with British players, not only Ramsey but Gibbs started as well. Plus if everyone was fit, they would start with Walcott, Wilshere, Gibbs and Ramsey maybe even chamberlain...
Bayfox Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 What are we classing as british? From our run in. Kasper dane Rdl belguim Schlupp ghana Wes Jamaica Wasyl poland Knocky french marhez algeria wood new Zealand so thats dd james vardy nugent and moore. it's very subjective. would we really care if we were top 4?

I think it's less than that I would say more like 20% The reason countries like Germany and Spain who have successful national sides is because 60% of there players are from there own nations plus there leagues help out as much to the national team, where by ours the premier league want to keep separate to the national team as much as possible.
