We could play well and not get out of the group. No-one should under-estimate Costa Rica

I can genuinely see us surprising people this summer. I think we'll qualify in 2nd place behind Uruguay, scrape through the second round and narrowly lose out in the quarters.

Although Roy has to pick a slightly adventurous team. If it's 4-4-2 or a negative 4-5-1 then we won't qualify from our group IMO.

Anyone who doesn't think Italy will win the group is a mug. It must be in their blood or something, but Italians just know what to do when it comes to tournaments. All things considered their team in the last Euros was gash yet they still got to the final. Winners in 06 of course, their last WC gives us cause for hope though!

As for England's chances, well in my opinion it comes down to ours and Uruguay's respective results against Italy, provided we don't lose to Uruguay. I'd back us to get a point against Italy more than I would Uruguay.

You'll definitely finish behind Uruguay, if you can limp through a win against Italy then a quarters defeat v one of the Dutch or brazilians (group c looks very poor)

I think we'll scrape through the group and lose disappointingly to Colombia in the 2nd round.

Italy and Uruguay will (rightly or wrongly) be just as scared of us as we are of them.

Playing well and not getting out of the group would be ok by me. Imagine if we'd has this group 4 years ago; we'd have been crucified.

Ive said all along we wouldnt get out the group but the closer the tournament gets the more optimistic im becoming, but i think i will stick to my original guess and we will only get 2 points.

Italy draw

Uruguay defeat

Costa Rica draw

Group stages... We won't be as positive as Italy and Uruguay. Don't like Hodgson at all and no doubt he'll be defensive as usual. I bet we won't even get the ball off of Italy.

Not trying to be negative but I think we'll really struggle to get out of the group. It is a tough group and defensively I think we're really weak.

Need to beat Italy and then we'll have a good chance

Italy are just as wank as us, Uruguay will narrowly beat us and we'll beat Costa Rica by a couple of goals.. Expect us to get through!

A win v Italy and I think we'll take 7 points from the group.

I see us running in to trouble in the quarter finals but if we've got that far then we'll have performed fairly well so perhaps we could finally ' over-achieve ' in a major tournament and beat one of the big guns in Spain/Brazil/Holland who we're likely to face in the QF if we get there.

I think we'll beat Italy, it's all set up for us to do so in my dubious logic. June 14th is an absolute humdinger of a day of football with 4 games being shown and the whole country in party mode. I can picture us winning and the whole nation going fcukin wild, like they did when we beat Argentina in 2002. What a day that was, although it was early in the day and then the party carried on throughout that day and well in to sunday. This one will be bedlam. Everyone will be absolutely steaming and sun burnt and won't have a clue what the score is/was but will come to the next day to find we've beat the Italians and crack open another warm Skol. Uruguay are a tough team but as I said, we'll beat Italy and then they won't look as fearsome, I think it'll be a score draw  and then we'll beat Costa Rica 2-0 and advance to the last 16. We actually have what looks on paper a fairly comfortable selection of opponents in either Greece, Japan or Ivory Coast. I'd fancy us to beat all 3 but obviously Ivory Coast have some serious talent and could cause us problems if we revert to type. However, I think they'll win their group and we'll get Japan and we'll bull hammer them.

The media will start bum sniffing from this point, they'll have interviews with Bobby Charlton and Geoff Hurst on what they think it takes for us to go all the way. It's likely we'll get the Spanish, who i'd much rather face than the Brazilians as they're on home soil and that defence of theirs looks unbelievable. I struggle to see us beating either but you just never know. It's a game against teams like that that i'm buzzing to see what Sterling, Barkley, Lallana and Sturridge could do against. All 4 strike me as fearless, yet to be riddled with the anxieties that come from playing regularly for England.

Whatever happens I cannot wait for this, especially when you have the safety net of Leicester being promoted in the bag already! Anything else this summer is a bonus.

Semis for me.

There is always one team that storms out of the block and becomes flavour of the month at the World Cup only to come up short. Was Argentina in 2006, Germany in 2010, I reckon it will be England this summer.

If we have a 2002 style World Cup I would be more than happy. Still maintain we would have won that if Ronaldinho didn't fancy lobbing Seaman that day.

We'll get through the group, 1st time in years I'm genuinely excited about an England side.

Reckon we'll get quarters then knocked out by one of the big guns.

Problem was the heat did us that day big time, we were absolutely garried by half time. 2nd half we were so lethargic and when they went down to 10 men it made absolutely no difference. I hope we can handle such conditions better this time around, completely different conditions but there will be the heat factor in some locations.
