StanSP Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 STOKE City are now in a five-way fight for the signature of former Fulham midfielder Steve Sidwell. Reports claim newly-promoted Leicester City have joined the chase after the 31 year-old was released following Fulham's relegation. That leaves Stoke, Leicester, West Ham, Newcastle and Crystal Palace (at the last count) interested in his services. Sidwell is a Crystal Palace fan and would prefer to remain in London, his hometown, having played there for Fulham, Chelsea and Arsenal. Mark Hughes may have a head start should he pursue his interest, however, after being the man to sign Sidwell for Fulham back in January 2011. Sidwell would provide potential competition in both the `Glenn Whelan' holding role and the `Steven Nzonzi' link between midfield and attack. Suppose this is much more realistic than Gareth Barry. http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/Stoke-City-transfer-gossip-Leicester-City-join/story-21147173-detail/story.html?
theessexfox Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Thought this would be a solid signing for a while, our version of Hull's Huddlestone signing if you will.
LeicesterBran Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Wasn't a big fan of him before last season but, he was Fulham's best player last season and would I be against us signing him ? No especially on a free as my opinion on him has changed.
kingfox Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Can't do any wrong with signing Sidwell, very decent player, and would be a good addition. Only one of a few players I'd take from relegated clubs.
Bluearmyfox28 Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 He will sign a 3 year contract with palace & retire at the end of his contract! Must be worth a cheeky bet!!
Durnerz Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Have wanted him since promotion, just the sort of player we need, solid in midfield and bags a few as well.
Stevosevic Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 I spoke to a pretty reliable source on Friday from the club, he said Pearson wanted Sidwell. Not surprised this is now in a paper.
Happy Fox Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Good player an upgrade on Hammond and King wouldn't say he is better than Drinkwater or James imo.
MPH Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 I spoke to a pretty reliable source on Friday from the club, he said Pearson wanted Sidwell. Not surprised this is now in a paper. Did someone get Birch on the beers again?
Stevosevic Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Did someone get Birch on the beers again? I wish! Unfortunately it wasn't the Birch, it was in London with someone who works with the team on a day to day basis. First bit of ITK knowledge I have ever received.
MPH Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 I wish! Unfortunately it wasn't the Birch, it was in London with someone who works with the team on a day to day basis. First bit of ITK knowledge I have ever received. And yet you kept it quiet until it became public knowledge. Fair play, Sir!
Stevosevic Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 And yet you kept it quiet until it became public knowledge. Fair play, Sir!I've seen the reaction to some ITK posters on here, I thought I would keep it to myself. Management team are expecting big things from Vardy as well, so I expect any striker that comes in they are planning to play with him.
Head Honcho Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Not a fan of signing players from relegated clubs...I know there's no rationale in it just my opinion.
TJB-fox Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Would prefer Barry (if he reduces his wages) but Sidwell would be decent. When I watched Fulham this year he seemed to be one of the few that actually gave 100% in every game
Captain... Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Good player, would be a good addition, but a lot of competition, we would have to outbid other clubs to entice him here, especially London clubs.
cc_star Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 I'd have thought attracting established Premier League players in this first season will be tough, unless we pay considerably more in wages than 'safe bets' like Stoke or Palace under Pulis etc
cc_star Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Not a patch on Barry. Nor Yaya Toure, if we're talking players out of our league
