Mike Oxlong Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Shocked. One of the movers and shakers of 80s culture
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Terrible news, he was a very funny man and had probably the greatest shouting voice in mankind RIP
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 This is so sad, comedy legend, Rik in The Young Ones was a comedy master class. Hands up who likes me? Well Rik I did, massive part of my growing up. Rip
Leicesterpool Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 I'm very upset, a massive fan of his. 55 was he? Still not an age to die at RIP RIK a massive fan
kristianity77 Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 This is terrible news! Seen him live a couple of times especially in Bottom many years ago. Genuinely gutted about this
BoneDog Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Really gutted. He had me and my mates crying hundreds of times watching Bottom. Absolutely loved him.
Captain... Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Sad news, but as always lets remember the laughter, I loved the Young Ones and Bottom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzWYfIBkHHs
Leicesterpool Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 I felt he was an underrated actor, his biggest problem in later years was finding work career never the same following the quad bike accident.
Babylon Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Not often I'm a bit gutted about a "celeb" passing away, but grew up adoring bottom and his cameos in blackadder.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 I felt he was an underrated actor, his biggest problem in later years was finding work career never the same following the quad bike accident. If memory serves me right that nearly killed him, didn't it? I think he suffered quite nasty brain injuries and I'm not sure to what extent he actually recovered from them. I never particularly liked Bottom, and the Young Ones has dated horribily, but I really liked The New Statesman last time I saw it and some of the Comic Strip stuff seemed great at the time (Mr Jolly Lives Next Door was a favourite). Very sad
Darkon84 Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 I always loved him in Blackadder. This still makes me chuckle every time. RIP Lord Flashheart! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWRBlhzjAcc
Steven Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 RIP Rik Mayall. Kevin Turvey lives on. Very funny bloke.
BoneDog Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 The Comic Strip with Bad News is one of the television greats and always thought Rik was the best Jackanory reader.
SeCrEt FoX Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 I felt he was an underrated actor, his biggest problem in later years was finding work career never the same following the quad bike accident. I thought it was a car crash and him writing his Jag off? Anyway like someone said previously, I dont normally feel really shocked as I do now about celebrity's who have passed, But this guy is a legend in my eyes. I grew up watching The Young Ones and Bottom especially. Really saddened about this. R.I.P Rik. Best ever bottom was the camping one at Wimbledon common. Got all the Bottom Live's
Blanesta Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 I'm just so gutted about this, he was by far my favourite comedian of all time! Loved bottom (tv show) the young ones and the new statesman, He was also pretty outstanding at reading stories on tv, he would put on so many funny voices, and put so much meaning into it! He will be terribly missed, I hope he didn't suffer in the end! RIP Rik Mayall!
RobHawk Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Gutted! What a legend! Loved bottom and the young ones growing up and enjoyed the new statesmen when i got a bit older. I remember seeing drop dead fred when i was about 7 and fell in love! Wasn't quite so good when i watched is again at the age of about 18/19 though!
