Premier League Leicester City interested in Port Vale's Joe DavisJoe Davis is out of contract at Port ValeComments (0)Premier League new-boys Leicester City are interested in Port Vale’s out-of-contract defender Joe Davis, The Sentinel understands. The 20-year-old, who has been offered a new deal by the Valiants, has come through the youth system at Vale Park and played 31 appearances for the first team. But Leicester, who were promoted to the Premier League last season, are considering a move for the centre half, who could go into their development squad.Vale would be entitled to a fee for Davis because he is under-24, but that is likely to be heavily dependent on future first-team appearances for the Foxes. The possibility of losing Davis will make Micky Adams all the more determined to bring in a central defender to strengthen his squad for next season.Although they finished ninth in League One last season, the Valiants had only the 18th best defensive record in the division, conceding 73 goals.Adams is looking to bring up to five new signings into the club before the start of the season, including strengthening his squad up front.Vale are in talks with a League One forward, but are likely to need more than one signing to strengthen their attack because strikers Jordan Hugill and Gavin Tomlin are both on their way out of the club.Hugill is in talks with Preston while Tomlin is expected to be unveiled at Crawley Town after Vale agreed a small fee with their League One rivals.Adams has also lost skipper Doug Loft and Jennison Myrie-Williams after they turned down new deals to sign for Gillingham and Scunthorpe respectively. However, Chris Lines, Chris Neal, Chris Birchall, Richard Duffy and Carl Dickinson have all signed new deals. The manager has also brought in versatile left-sided player Colin Daniel on a free transfer from Mansfield. However, one of his targets, Craig Westcarr, has this afternoon joined Portsmouth on a two-year contract. The Valiants were keen on the 29-year-old striker, who was released by Walsall despite finishing last season as their 16-goal top scorer.Vale held talks with the striker last week but lost out after Portsmouth came in with a bid on Wednesday.

Would be good for the u21s. If I was Leicester I'd buy him then loan him back to Port Vale or something. Surely better than going from playing in a proper league to u21s.

We must see some real potential in him. And it's pleasing to know that we are planning for the future in terms of a proper academy that could turn out the likes of Lineaker and Heskey and joacem. long term thought and investment has to be good for our club.
