Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 We didn't have a Christmas / Winter break when we had the majority of spaces in the latter stages filled in the mid-late noughties and nobody bemoaned it then. It's a sign that other leagues have gotten better whilst ours has gotten worse, the schedule hasn't changed, the quality of players / managers being bought in most definitely has.
Harry - LCFC Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 We still had the replays and the tough Christmas period back when England was performing well. That hasn't change. Our clubs just don't have the players atm - whatever's causing that to happen is the problem, not the way we schedule our fixtures.
Dan Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 Winter break is a shite argument on the basis of tonight considering it was Man City's 13th game of 2015 and Barcelona's 19th.
Donut Posted 19 March 2015 Posted 19 March 2015 The only reason Man City went for Bony was that he wasnt Champions League tied. And Spent £30 million on him in the process. I dont even know what half of their signings do? Fernando is a nothing workhorse in the middle of the pitch, a slightly upmarket Dean Hammond Mangala is just rubbish, and you dont "buy for the future" at £30 million Yaya Toure has lost his drive and influence. They were well beaten by a great Barcelona team.
Finnegan Posted 19 March 2015 Posted 19 March 2015 They've got a few genuinely amazing talents in Silva, Toure and Aguero but they have wasted them by largely buying Arsenal grade fodder for Real Madrid prices. You could understand it at first when they were struggling to win anything but you'd think twice champions of England could sign the Griezmanns, the Kokes or the Reus' of this world with the kind of money they have.

Didn't Mandzukic cost nearly half of what Bony did?
Fox92 Posted 19 March 2015 Posted 19 March 2015 I wouldn't imagine they are a massive appeal for players of that calibre though? They're not a massive club. I'd rather join Manchester United than Manchester City.
Finnegan Posted 19 March 2015 Posted 19 March 2015 Didn't Mandzukic cost nearly half of what Bony did? Sounds about right. Haven't Chelsea bought Matic twice for less combined than City paid for Fernando and Fernandinho... each? Or am I overestimating what they paid Porto for Fernando? Either way, neither are exactly world class talents.
Finnegan Posted 19 March 2015 Posted 19 March 2015 I wouldn't imagine they are a massive appeal for players of that calibre though? They're not a massive club. I'd rather join Manchester United than Manchester City. Bit retarded. City have money to burn, a reasonably big ground, won the league twice in three years, have better players in Aguero, Toure and Silva than anyone on United's books, can guarantee champions league football every year and pay ridiculous wages that dwarf most other sports clubs world wide. United are a fallen giant in transition who currently have **** all but their reputation.

It's why Leeds and Forest still blither on about what they did forty years ago.
Finnegan Posted 19 March 2015 Posted 19 March 2015 Fans yeah but not players. If that's all it took then Leeds would be courting Ibra and Reus. Celtic would be in for Ronaldo.
lcfcsnow Posted 19 March 2015 Posted 19 March 2015 Remy and Bony are both great players for your mid table pushing for Europa league standard sides, put them in a top side with less frequent game time, and it's a waste of time. Why clubs persist in wasting money and making substandard players even more millions I don't know. It's not even a surprise to see them contribute very little. How is it benefiting the club?

Tbf to Chelsea Remy was cheap, they had money from the Lukaku sale and they wanted some who was probably going to be happy to be used sparingly

Another irritation of mine and not relevant to the thread but I'm sure he'd have made more progress if he stayed at West Brom.

I'm sure he will be loaned out some time in the next few seasons and get a chance to prove himself

Not saying he should start but he has scored consistently for good sides in the Championship but will end up moving on from Chelsea.
MC Prussian Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 The quarter-finals: Paris St. Germain vs FC Barcelona Atlético Madrid vs. Real Madrid (AGAIN ) FC Porto vs Bayern Munich Juventus FC vs AS Monaco
One Legged Beaver Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 Fancy Barca, Atletico, Bayern and Juventus into the semi final. Can only really see the first two ties being of any interest though.
David Guiza Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 The quarter-finals: Paris St. Germain vs FC Barcelona Atlético Madrid vs. Real Madrid (AGAIN ) FC Porto vs Bayern Munich Juventus FC vs AS Monaco I reckon Porto could give Bayern a game at home, but they'll get rolled over the Allianz. Aside from that, have to go Barca, Juve and probably Atletico, unless Real Madrid can turn it on.
Finnegan Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 Atletico are in shit form as well though really. Strange tie that one.
Samilktray Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 It feels like Barca and PSG play each other all the time.
ScouseFox Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 It feels like Barca and PSG play each other all the time. yeah, i can't remember the last time ibra went more than a few months without playing his old manager/old team etc.

ealingfox Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 Atleti and Real have already played each other 6 times this season and Real haven't won once
