Im not at all surprised at how I percieve this thread has progressed.

It essentially kicked off with surprise and delight at our being linked with Cambiasso. Images were created of posters 'spaffing' at the prospect lol

Then, in usual Babylon fashion, glibness pervaded and of course, the playground mentality prevailed, everyone jumped on the bandwagon and any discussion gets lost amongst all the piss-taking.

Col, once more, becomes a QPR fan...

In summary.. absolutely my feelings towards us signing Cambiasso are very mixed. Im never sure of signing older, overseas players who are edging towards the end of their careers. A player like Ronaldhino, NOW, I would not touch with a barge-pole. To do so would be to remind me of the Sven days and the complete fookin cock-up that was made then.

Given the choice of Isla, for example, or Cambiasso.. I'd take the former in a heart beat. He's younger, fitter and with a point to prove. Cambiasso has done it all and has nothing to prove. I imagine him joining us would be a pay day, nothing more.

Its my own fault. I saw it before re. the news that we were getting Sven and then Beckford. For some reason, the majority on here will quickly dismiss ANY suggestion of questioning. It seems almost 'disloyal' perhaps to not jump on the bandwagon of positivity.

But, I'll do two things: I'll stand by my not immediately claiming that signing Cambiasso would be fantastic AND I'll be the first to claim that I was wrong if we sign him and he turns out to be our key signing of the summer.

Personally, given all things considered, Id be happier to be linked with a player like Lee Cattermole. Hows that for fence sitting?

Cambiasso would be a luxury signing. We could survive without him. I'm only saying this because we see so many 'rumours' fall through. I don't want to get too excited.

I reckon Pearson is still likely to start with James and Drinkwater. They are both box-to-box midfielders who compliment each other so well. Cambiasso could be brought in to play just behind them as a CDM. On paper, that looks amazing.

Here is an idea, if you have reservations about signing a player just state them.

Rather than doing what you have done and spouting off at other people about they they aren't discussing this and that or the other, stating you're right about Beckford and Sven for about the 100th time in the thread for no real reason other than bringing it to peoples attention you were right about something, mentioning QPR AGAIN. Calling people fence sitters, bandwagon jumpers etc etc. Giving everyone your run down psychoanalysis of how the thread went like you're some kind Sigmund Freud of the forum.

Newsflash: People took the piss because you posted like a bit of a bell.

Everyone does seem to jump on you quite quickly but in this instance I don't think you're helping yourself.

Immediately being against a signing for the reasons you've stated is as bad as being for it without looking at the facts.

Any signing has an element of risk about it whether they are free or a record transfer fee. In this case, I fully take on board your reference to the Sven era but have the current management team not earned even a little faith in your eyes?

It is a fact that this chap has no Prem experience and his age certainly doesn't suggest long term but the experience and reputation he does have, has been 100% earned. 34 isn't the graveyard age it once was in professional football terms and for the position he plays, isn't particularly a negative factor.

There does have to be some realism in the market we now operate in. New signings of a certain quality will have to be paid more and we will have to pay over the odds for players we want. Having said that we do seem to be weighing up all angles before moving for anyone. Because of this you may see an over the top excitement but as I said earlier, the management team have earned that.

Its not exclusive to you that you would take a different transfer stance. The club has tens of thousands of supporters so we all won't be on the same page and therefore it is a little off the shit you take.

All in all I don't see a downside to this signing. Adds depth, experience and quality to a young and raw midfield. It also gives us more kudos for future transfer dealings. He might be gash, but nothing in his career record suggests that he will be so taking that stance immediately in my opinion is wrong.

We probably won't sign him anyway.

Find it rather funny Estaban Cambiasso is being compared to Jermaine Beckford.

If Cambiasso signs I'm offering 11/8 on him covering more distance in his first game than Beckford did in his City "career".

2/5 on Cambiasso to complete more passes in his first game than Beckford did in a City shirt.

come on Col. Really???

Absolutely buddy. Absolutely..

I'd take a younger, fitter player, with a point to prove, who was a big part (I believe) of the amazing Sunderland fight back at the arse-end of last season, with plenty of premiership experience and who, IMO could fit beautifully into our set-up.

I think Nige could control him such that his defensive work could be crucial in our survival.

I'd take him over a 34 yr old player who hasn't played outside of Italy for God knows how long and who, maybe one could argue, wants the Premiership for his last big paycheck.

Sure I would... it surprises me that no-one else would? Then again, it don't really.
