It isn't a surprise he will probably be one of/the best paid player at the club but I think Nigel wanted it done tactfully. How many of us know comparatively what our colleagues earn and if we find out, how many people demand a pay rise if they feel they do as much if not more than said person? It's quite logical when you think about it objectively.

Finnegan Posted 10 August 2014 Posted 10 August 2014 If there's truth in the original story, that Cambiasso wants a project to invest in for footballing reasons, we can relax. There's actually no danger of him selling out and trotting off to QPR for the money. If he does and that's his motivation then we're probably not really missing out. What we want is this year's Powell or Phillips, someone who offers as much off the field as on it. James and Drinkwater are the future and if Cambiasso wants to come in and help them grow then fantastic.
davieG Posted 10 August 2014 Posted 10 August 2014 On the plus side PL clubs have know he's been available since May and they haven't offered him a deal including QPR so we're perhaps his last resort of playing in the PL. This is the time in the window when we're going to get our £££ signings, when the unattached players realise that no one bigger, better, more 'glamorous' club is going to offer them a contract.

Benji Posted 10 August 2014 Posted 10 August 2014 It's unlikely that a leak to the press would cause other clubs to become more interested. Agents call clubs all the time offering their players' services - whether they're free agents or in contract. Our interest may even have began after being contacted by Esteban's. I would expect QPR and almost every other club in the PL to have had some form of call along the lines of "Hey, I'm having a bidding war of Cambiasso, how much you want to offer"? Pearson's frustration almost brings me to think that someone other than the "first to always be blamed" agent went to the press. He's not stupid and will know we'll never be the only club interested in a transfer.
