According to this mornings sunday people QPR are trying to hijack the deal!

Wow never saw that coming....... probably Arry who got the info leaked as well. Hope he comes to the right team and not the "im only here for the high wage mercs" QPR

I think he has already signed, they will announce it sometime tomorrow or Tuesday and 'Arry Redknapp can do one.

Why on earth would a reputable source in South America wish to discredit themselves by publishing a statement that wasn't true? Why would almost every single newspaper article going from South America or Italy say he is signing for us unless it's true? The Sunday People are as reliable about these things as the Daily Express is concerning the weather forecast...

Nigel wouldn't admit something unless it had already been done/almost done. We know how he works. Said similar when Kevin Phillips joined.

If everything goes through it will be an emphatic statement of intent and greatly improve our profile and our strength in depth. What a wonderful journey our club seems to be embarking on - surely the most exciting in its history.

You feeling alright Thrac? :)

Although I think you make a persuasive argument for the case he may have signed, the only fly in the ointment for me was NP's reaction to the fact that the approach had been leaked.

Oh, yes, don't get me wrong - I know how frustrated he was but I doubt he would genuinely admit on air we want him unless its almost done.

I think he was more mad at the fact someone has let the press know as he wanted it to get done cloak and dagger style due to who he is. Its like hiring someone at work who you may have headhunted and you don't want the company they work for currently knowing anything, out of respect or whatever because of the trouble it could cause etc. I understand why we are all nervous about this but I think there are too many stories confirming things are concluded than not now for it to be the case.

I can see why Nige is pissed off. If QPR swoop in and agree a deal with him then we'll have done all the groundwork only for another team to reap the benefits.

I seriously wouldn't want to be the one who leaked it if Nige gets hold of them.

Good point. I guess we're just going to have to keep our nerve and see what happens.

I think the only pieces of information that are factual are:

1. We have made him an offer and the leak has caused complications. Complications must be that other parties have now shown interest, or the leak may mean other parties will show interest after the leak.

2. Foreign papers saying it is a done deal, could now indicate that the complications are over and we are over the line. He could have chosen us over the other parties.

I suppose it is all down to how credible these foreign papers are.

The longer it drags, the less chance this has if going through. But it could be that he is ours tomorrow if the foreign press are correct.

My other thought is that this could be a done deal and the agent has now leaked a lower wage to the press, to please Pearson, so no unrest is felt in the rest of the squad.

His availability is not new. He was being talked about in May re wanting to come to the prem. he must have been offered to qpr. it's feasible that one of his demands was a regular staring place and none of the other sides could guarantee that at the time. Now we're closer to the start of the season, they have more of an idea as to whether they can offer this. Perhaps his father is just putting his availability out there again without being seen to negotiate after agreeing the framework of a deal with us.

Until you see him on the website with a shirt then I wouldn't be counting any chickens

Here is what I think.  A deal has been agreed in principle over the phone.  He is due to fly over here, look around, take a medical and get the finer details sorted.  However I think that nothing has been signed yet, so until then, he is still free to talk tot other clubs...hence why Nige is well and truly peeeeed off with the "balloon head" that leaked it.

I think it is all agreed not signed...? ( hope so)

Feel we our saving the best signings till last, as squad is threadbare.

N.p peeved as the 5m over two seasons is perhaps true, but if we are in negotiations with other players we have shown our hand so to speak..?

There's a lot of 'could' and 'may' in your post so how you can state it as fact I don't know?! It's basically all speculation apart from we are interested and it's been leaked.
