So if rumours are to be believed QPR are now all over him.

Are we having the same problems that we had the last time we were in the prem?  Struggling to convince top players to move to the Leicester/East Midlands area?  It's the elephant in the room but it is a big issue for us unfortunately.

Can we now expect a shite write up each week now in the Sun following that?

It wont make any difference.

We`re in the premier league now, and we`ll have become little old Leicester in the eyes of the national press, and so any good result we get from here on in, will be because of how poor the other team were on the day, and not how good we may have been.

We had it all the time during the Martin O`Neil years.

If he goes elsewhere then it's about money/location and that means it's unlikely he would have fitted in here with the team ethos anyway. So if he comes - fantastic and if he doesn't - we've probably missed nothing.

That's the same link as above, only one source has reported that.

If we want him that bad we'll break the wage cap for him.

By the sounds of it, we are doing everything we possibly can to get him to sign for us.

However sometimes it simply isn't about money.  He is already a very wealthy man remember.  The ball is in his court now.

Know we are all extremely biased so I will try to look at this objectively (as best I can).

You are a player looking to play in England for the first time in your career and you have won all there is to be won in the game, bar the World Cup. You are quoted as having said you are looking at wanting to buy into a project with some longevity and purpose and you have had four known offers on the table. Both Tottenham and West Ham aren't prepared to buy you straight away without testing and the other London club seem to make their interest known after negotiations have been made with another club, who have also just been promoted to the Premier League.

You are aware that the likelihood of winning the Premiership with any of these sides is very unlikely, but, you have been told by the owners of the club who have really tried to make you feel wanted that you will be brought in to help the careers of the younger players in the team who you feel would learn lots from you. Moreover, you know that the fans will adore you by joining this team and it gives you - ultimately - the chance to join a club with genuine ambitions to reach the higher echelons in England's top division, whether that be in your playing career or sometime not long after.

I know it is a different sport, but I bet that is the vision sold to Matthew Hoggard when he joined our cricket team over the then current County Champions, Sussex. Sometimes in sport, the opportunity to be the catalyst for something is a nice feeling.

It's a fair point, and not something that gets talked about very often.

London is our only 'fashionable' city in the UK unfortunately - and it gives clubs like QPR an added bonus that we'll never have. Then again, it may be a good thing. I don't want to see us turn into some retirement club for foreign pros to earn silly bucks and take their wives shopping on the King's Road.

I am concerned by the leak. Have a gut feeling it was done to draw out a better deal. Hope I'm wrong.
We can't compete with London as a location for a better overall lifestyle for the family. Especially if you have money, and I bet he has a bob or two!

All depends on what is motivating him at this stage of his career.

I'm not sure it's really an elephant in the room. I think everyone's aware that if you're young and rich, like any pro footballer is, then London's the place to be. Everywhere else in the country is at a disadvantage. I agree that if a player has to choose between us and a London club, deciding based solely on location, then we'll lose out every time. However, the same goes for everywhere else in the country vs. the capital. Luckily, location isn't the only factor.

Let's face it, this is far from being a glamourous region, but it's not all that bad, and there are plenty of other factors to consider. I think there are at least a couple of strong selling points. We can pretty much guarantee a player like Cambiasso a regular starting spot. He would be a key player in our tight-knit squad, whereas he couldn't be so sure of that at most other PL clubs, who have flabbier rosters. Also, if he's at all interested in tutoring, then we'd be ideal for him. We have a lot of young first teamers who would benefit enormously from playing alongside someone of his vast experience.

I wouldn't be shocked if he just wants to be a bit-part player on a huge wage in the capital, but if he's still serious about playing football and passing on his knowledge, then we're in with a chance.

Stop panicking everyone, he will be announced soon I'm quite sure of it. I'm also sure that Cambiasso is sorted for life in terms of money so I don't think that is his motivation, I believe it's a challenge he is after. He'll get that here.

Source? Or are you his fluffer, knowing all this?

Like people state.. if he wants to play for a team with genuine ambitions with a great manager and opportunity to pass on his knowledge its us all the way

if he wants the location then its london

also if he wants a big final pay cheque he'll go london because although we could compete we aren't going to break our business strategy. . Therefore it puts us at a disadvantage but also means whoever does come in genuinely wants to be a part of our future success

id love him to come here as I think hes what we really need and may attract better players ie cb and lb.. but if hes trying to push up the offer (fair play to him) but its not right for our club

I reckon there's too much evidence to suggest otherwise, I'm not in the know or anything but from my experience when there is a reliable source (futbol mercado) saying we have signed him already I'm inclined to believe it.

You'd be surprised how well cities like Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol, Newcastle, Leeds, Cardiff, Glasgow, Bath, Edinburgh, Brighton, Belfast, York, Durham, Warwick, Leamington Spa heck sometimes even Nottingham are regarded to those that have been around the country.  Sadly I have never met anybody that has simply visited Leicester and has had anything nice to say about the place apart from something like "some BITS are OK, I like the Highcross..."  It puts us at a big disadvantage in my opinion.   :(

Still have hope mind!  :knockyhat:

If Hull can sign the likes of Huddlestone, Jelavic and Long, then we needn't worry too much.

More a question than statement but don't a lot of footballers commute theses day? I got the impression a lot don't live in the City of the team they play for. I know I would be more than happy to commute to most places for 30k a week or more.

Good point. Wasn't Billy Davies still living in Scotland when he managed Forest?

I'm sure his wife will love coming from the capital of fashion to the Haymarket.

But yeah as people have suggested he could still commute from London. Would take about an hour (on the tube) to get to QPR's training ground anyway, (hazarding a stereotypical guess that he'll be living in the Kensington/Chelsea district).

Doesn't Nige live in the Sheffield area anyway?

I don't get why everyone is so convinced that he would choose London over leicester(shire). There are plenty of people who don't like the big city lifestyle - even those with significant money.

He's reaching the end of his career, so it's quite possible he wants somewhere quieter to settle down which would be more family friendly than the big city (he has a young daughter). Particularly if he's looking at getting into coaching in England, then he'll possibly want something more homely than a place in London.

People have all sorts of different preferences for their lifestyle, so it'd be ridiculous to assume that we've automatically lost out with regards to location.
