Still nobody is telling me about these wonderful places in Leicester that there are that I keep missing

(sigh)

start with the newark and castle areas, the Jain centre, magazine gateway, trinity almshouses, Rupert's gateway, the castle, st mary de castrol, the judges lodgings. we can then cross the dreadful underpass (truly dreadful but still part of 2oth century history) to see Wyggeston House, catherdral, guildhall, the Richard III centre, New Street, the monumental and listed bank buildings around Friar Lane, the restored Lanes area, Silver Arcade,(you'll need a pint in the globe by now), the arts and cratfs Fenwick store, New Walk and the most of buildings along it, the Greek-revival former Phoenix Fire Office on Welford Place, The 20th century university buildings, particularly the engineering building in what is a world class university. Back to the town hall itself and chapel opposite it. The Turkey Cafe on Granby Street, the wonderful art deco shoe shop where Granby Street nears the station, the restore building on Charles st where the council is now living, round the cultural quarter Alexandra House and that building which is a replica of a corporate HQ in Philadelphia, the listed St Georges Church, (pint in the real ale pub on the corner of Halford St?) Secular Hall on Humberstone Gate, the Lewis Tower, the place where Thomas Cook was founded – you can see the freize if you look up, The 17th century unitarian chapel on Bond Sst, St Margaret’s Church, even what’s left of Corahs is as monumental an industrial building as you can find in Britain. The listed St Marks Church, remains of Leicester abbey, back along the caanl.

I wrote this in in about 5 mins and I don’t even live there anymore, there’s an awful lot more I didn’t mention,..ok, go on then,,,, Wakerley's planned suburb at North Evington and the 1930s former Wildt Mellor Bromley factory entrance, , the former HSBC on Granby Sreet soon to become a Hari Krishna temple......the pork pie libraries at Southfields and St Barnabas Road, both influenced by Charles Holden's architecture for the Piccadilly Line tube.

Too late for the space centre by now.....You'll be exhausted by all this and you neck will hrt because you've been looking up a lot...I recommend a curry at the Tiffin (corner of London Rd and de montfort st - you can have a quick observe (not look - observe) the listed entrance to the London Road station.

But yeah, but like I said, you'd be happier in Reading or Basingstoke

But when you are looking up at all this stunning architecture, make sure you don't answer your phone as some oik will go past you on their bike and pinch it.

In all seriousness there is some decent architecture, but in many cases it is scattered and lots of other architecture that could have made it a really decent City has disappeared.

The Turkey Cafe is nice, but it on Grandby Street that is a dead zone now and probably all become flats in the near future.

You can't really have a decent night in Leicester, we have no hub for bars and I don't think we have made the most of what we had. Aesthetically there isn't really an appealing part that you could gather in.

We had The Bowstring Bridge that got knocked down a few years ago, which could have created a feature.

It's not for me, not appealing to look at, no real great meeting hubs and poor restaurants.

Everyone now gathers at The Highcross, which is basically just a group of chain restaurants.

Leicester is great for a curry, but apart from that I struggle to get excited. Nobody would want to visit it for a weekend, which is proven by the lack of decent hotels.

Can't comment on Basingstoke, but can on Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Leeds, Bristol, Bath, Brighton, Derby, Nottingham, London, Norwich, Pererborough, Luton, Sheffield, York, Harrowgate, Doncaster, Chester, Sunderland, Coventry, Cambridge, Oxford, Southampton, Durham, Birmingham and Liverpool.

Unfortunately I would certainly put us amongst the worst in that list. No pleasure in doing so, would love it to be decent, but as someone who lives outside of the centre, I do find it quite depressing.

This is why it checked 5 different sources, as well as the guy on here who's wife was born there and still thinks it's a shitehole.

Oh right, so someone's wife on here said its a shithole and four others have views who also may not have been. You must be right then.

Bloody hell, nearly posted about Cambiasso in the "Middlesbrough's greatest architecture" thread then.

They have nothing on Middlesborough Kentucky...

Anyone who posts more than 1 paragraph to this thread as its currently developing really needs to reconsider how they spend their time.

The fact this thread is more appealing than the paid work I have to do, really does highlight the shit jobs this client gives me.

To be honest I couldn't give less of a monkey's about Middlesbrough but everyone I've ever heard comment on the place apart from you seem to think its pretty grim. Leicester is just as bad in some places and is nothing compared to Sheffield, York, Manchester, Liverpool or London but in no way is it amongst the worst in England that are much, much worse than Leicester could ever be.

Anyway, I don't see why we're still arguing about it. Someone who's played for Real Madrid, has 50 caps for Argentina and over a decade at Inter could afford to commute from wherever he wishes. I'm agreeing to disagree and I'm not posting about fooking Middlesbrough again in this thread.

Just to bring everyone up to date, Cambiasso is currently chomping his way through some Haribo Tangtastics sitting next to Harry Redknapp in Business Premium Economy Traveller Class on a flight from Buenos Aires via Milan, Benidorm and Middlesbrough while the pilot waits for this guy from the Anywhere Other Than Leicester tourist board to shut up so that he can make his grand entrance into Stoughton Aerodrome.

Own up! Who's been posting on Cambiasso's Facebook page. (If in fact the page is genuinely his).

So since the Cambiasso rumours started we've covered Arry, QPR, Col, 'bullying', Cities, Middlesborough, airports, Leicester, sweets, fireplaces and probably a shit load of other things ive missed. I'm pretty sure there will be other topics discussed between now and tomorrow, when hopefully we will have a better idea on what's happening with Cambiasso.

So is Cattermole getting a chartered firepit to live in Col City fan's house in Middlesborough?

He'll sign and we 'll have no idea as we're too busy discussing the wonders of Upper Atmosphere air pressure.

At a guess, I'd say it was Kevin Gifford...

In an attempt to shift back to Cambiasso based discussion.

Where will he fit into the side?

Personally think we'll see a 3 man midfield next season. Don't think we'll continue with 4-4-2.
