surrifox Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 Deeney will sign for QPR on transfer deadline day... they're in for Vargas so that might not be the case
trueblueju Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 Yes I heard he's all geared up for the move to QPR. I have a mate who scouts for Swansea and this is what he has heard too.
sylofox Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 Looks like we only put one bid in so thinking did we ever want him. The bid went in the day we signed Ulloa so was it put in to stop Ulloa messing us about?

Jace Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 Hes a good player but after Saturday if we really need him we got plenty of strength up front and it would be funny to see QPR pay £12 million+ for him
HowardsBulletHeader Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 Hes a good player but after Saturday if we really need him we got plenty of strength up front and it would be funny to see QPR pay £12 million+ for him Not if they pay 12+ million and he scores 10-15 goals and keeps them up and we go down.
st albans fox Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 Palace once MM is confirmed A sensible destination football wise although if he still lives in brum that's a nightmare daily grind and Parrish won't pay 10 mill.
shailen Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 deeney isn't a massive improvement from Wood imo, and i'm not basing this on Saturdays performance. Genuinely feel we have a problem in the full back positions and we need to address that urgently. Konchesky and De Leat will get battered by the likes of Hazard, Sterling, Sanchez....etc

shailen Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 Isn't that the case with most full backs outside the top 6? Yes it is, I was just trying to make the point that we lack quality and depth in our full back positions and should spend in that department than to buy a striker.
suffolk fox Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 Yes it is, I was just trying to make the point that we lack quality and depth in our full back positions and should spend in that department than to buy a striker. Be careful you will be accused of panicking?
MGLCFC Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 Yes it is, I was just trying to make the point that we lack quality and depth in our full back positions and should spend in that department than to buy a striker. But the quality full backs we bring in won't be top 6 standard so they'll still won't perform any better against Sterling, Hazard,Sanchez, Walcott et al than Konchesky and De Laet. I'm not disagreeing that we need more competition and cover at full back, just that any subsequent replacements aren't likely to cope any better against the top six wingers or so in the Prem than our current full backs.
5waller5 Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 I'd like Deeney here but in all honesty who do you drop? Ulloas doing well Nugent had a great pre season, Vardy brilliant last season, Wood always delivers, GTF takes his chances and we've signed Barmby aswell we must have more depth up front than most Premiership teams already I'd say that this is the very reason we don't have strength in depth!
EGBFitness Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 To be perfectly honest I couldn't care less if he signs or not He seems pretty settled at Watford and they are obviously racking his valuation up by the day. He could be a good addition but still think we have enough quality in Ulloa, Nuge, Vardy & Wood, if we are really struggling for cover that much I'm sure we would change tactics to having 1 upfront or something like we most likely will against some top teams. Personally feel £10+ mil could be spent more wisely in other positions

Thracian Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 But the quality full backs we bring in won't be top 6 standard so they'll still won't perform any better against Sterling, Hazard,Sanchez, Walcott et al than Konchesky and De Laet. It's a good point and I wonder if Schlupp might prove a trump card against such players whether he's playing at full-back or on the wing. He's the one player we've got on the left who could track most anyone and still have the calmness and strength to take the ball off them. To me we looked better in defence and attack when Konch and Schlupp were on the left against Everton - and that compared to a first half in which we were taken apart down that flank at times. On the right I just down see either Knockaert or Mayrez being natural defenders alongside DeLaet. Willing triers without a doubt - and much improved in Knockaert's case - but we're still vulnerable. Wing-backs can only be consistently effective if there's good cover when they sprint into forward positions. Schlupp gives us that cover. With the right attitude and determination to add new skills to the basic competence he's already evolving, Schupp could be this year's Vardy - his improvement could be that great. But there are several key things that'll make the difference.... a) Improving his defensive positioning. b) Improving his crossing. c) Improving his passing speed and accuracy. d) Learning to be calmer and more clinical with his shooting. That sounds a lot and certainly won't be perfected in a season but progress could be rapid and then we really would have a player. The alternative is to try to find anyone else with comparable pace, strength and dual purpose attacking/defending ability at a price we could afford. Not easy.

Dr The Singh Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 Good post. I agree with you on Schlupp. Thracian fluffing youth players again???

Rocky Dennis Posted 21 August 2014 Posted 21 August 2014 But surely if we've already bid up to £10m for him we wouldn't need to be 'scouting' him any more?
