From what N.P said on this yesterday to stringer/ SSN etc. We will know for sure on this within the next 24 hours....

I hope so, if you look up protracted in the dictionary there's a picture of Esteban staring at a contract offer from lcfc

Do big ‘marquee’ signings of aging World Stars like Cambiasso actually work? Ever.

Does anyone have an example of a big world star signing for a smaller club and being successful?

All I can think of is Edgar Davids signing for Crystal Palace, and Michael Owen at Stoke. Anelka at WBA.

I have an open mind about this, but these deals do always tend to end in tears.  I'm really surprised Pearson is interested in this guy and is putting up with all the sh*t. Seems like a Redknapp deal.

Personally I too would be happier with Cattermole! (And no NOT because he’s a better player but because there’s more chance of him making more than 5 appearances for us before flying back to Argentina for "family reasons" two months into his contract.

Bolton made a living out of it a decade ago. Worked for them. I would be happy just to have him passing on his experience to DD and MJ.

Maybe. Although Jay Jay Okotcha was 28 and Ivan Campo was 29 when they joined Bolton. In their prime. Did they ever sign a World Star at the tail-end of his career like Cambiasso?

Pearson isn't going to sign a player who will not give 100%, cambiasso maybe a big name but he is known for putting in a shift... I hope he signs because it would show ambition and we could land other targets on the back of this

Most of those over the hill ex world class players all were reliant on pace something cambiasso has never had so I think it's hard to compare him to them

As others have said, I'm sick to the back teeth of this now. I hope the rumours of this being sorted one way or another within the next 24 hours are true, but I won't be holding my breath.

I'm still really optimistic about the season ahead, but I have to say I'm massively frustrated and disillusioned by how things have panned out in this transfer window. Given that we knew from about March onwards that we would most likely be going up, to find ourselves sitting here with 5 days left still looking to bring in players (and having signed only one player for a transfer fee) is not how I hoped this would happen.

Clearly what is happening is that increased media presence, conniving from agents and market pressures have meant that the only way NP can improve the quality of the squad is to bring in players on salaries/fees that he believes will disrupt our togetherness and team spirit.

I'm glad he's at least thinking about this (unlike 'Arry) and is willing to stick to his principles - but the big question is, will that be enough?

For me, this just illustrates why the current transfer market model is completely ****ed and needs reform. It shouldn't be the case that jumping up one division in the league structure means you suddenly have to pay your players 50% more.

Reform please.

I despair at this thread.  I could understand it if we were Real Madrid, but almost every other club has to wait until late int he window to do a fair chunk of their transfer business.

John Percy, in the article about James McArthur, said it's stalled due to "outisde influences"

"Cambiasso was believed to be keen on a move to the King Power Stadium, with a two-year contract on the table, but talks have collapsed due to what a source described as “outside influences”."

Yeah good point actually. Although as he's without a club, Cambiasso has missed a whole pre-season. One would hope that he'd have been itching to play, but he doesn't seem to be bothered that he's already missing games.

The other thing that worries me is this: WHERE IS HE??  Has Cambiasso actually visited LCFC? Has Pearson actually met him? All the talk is of his many representatives. If it were me, I'd be flying here to meet the manager and view the facilities. West Ham were right to insist on a trial. We should do the same.

I think Col is right to prefer Cattermole.

I think it's obvious with the Mccarther bid this isn't happening, unless they are using the bid to pressure the shadowy agents into a deal?

I really do hope we're not being over stubborn with the deals. We need to look at the bigger picture and realise we need to burn some money while we haven't the reputation and then hopefully players will be queuing up to sign in a few years.

We should have got Sven in to replace Terry.

I would agree with this IF we had struggled in our first two games. But Pearson (so far) appears to be correct in his faith in his squad.

Plus - I don't think you can blame Pearson for having THREE centre-midfielders injured. All Prem teams only have a 25 man squad, so it's unlikely that any of them would be in a greatly different position to us had they had 3 CMs injured too.

Whelan said that we made the bid yesterday which baring in mind Pearson told Radio Leics yesterday that the Cambiasso deal looked promising i'd not worry too much yet. I think we're cautious that the nearer it gets to deadline day if we don't have more than one option for each position we need to recruit in to, then we're likely to not get the numbers in we want.

Sounds like EB is keen on the move but whoever 'owns' him isn't so keen. If he has third party owners they'll be looking for what is the best deal for them. He'll probably end up in Qatar or somewhere like that.

Outside media have been avoided at all costs by the club, all of the talks are taking place where they can't follow, anything reported since the weekend is a wild guess.

He is represented by people close to him, one of whom interacts with the public, he and Nigel are the only two people to believe right now, anyone else hasn't got any concrete information.
