I've been pretty neutral and patient on this so far but I think it's time to put it to bed.

Rather than paying a big-name player huge wages for a short amount of time, it might be better for the club to spend a transfer fee for a younger player who can develop and fit in with the general ethos of the club.

My mind is changed, it would be better to get someone else rather than Cambiasso.

could the goal posts moving on this deal be that they now want a one year deal on a much higher gross amount. Wages, signing on fee etc, that wont obv be the 5m package hes looking for and agreed over 2yrs bUt a hell of a lot nearer.

help us stay up.. teach james king n drinky why hes here.. n spend some money on a younger version next summer

Who do you think we are? If he's got offers from established La Liga teams then fair fvcking play to him, he's well within his rights to consider those. Do you honestly think we should only sign players that jump at the chance of signing for massive, wonderful Leicester?

At the speed this deal is moving it will be 6 months contract.

Sure that mercury article was up last week hinting his decision was the weekend just gone everyone trying to second guess what's going on if his face appears on the official site confirming his signing it is done until then life goes on

Haha ****in hell, I thought some of the Everton transfer threads were bonkers.  Just read a bit of this and have gone from loving Cambiasso to hating him, then back again, now I'm indifferent.

 

I reckon he'd do a great job, similar to that of Barry for us.

As much as I respect the guy has to make the right decision for him and his family this has gone on too long and the same respect has to be shown to NP and the club it's time to turn HIM down and mice on to other targets, would be great to have him here but the club deserve better

From how he's talking about how and the manner in which he left inter, it sounds he's carrying a lot of "baggage" and his heart will be still at Inter and not here.

5 reasons why Tottenham could regret missing out on Cambiasso

 

The Argentine veteran looks to be heading to Leicester City, despite previously being linked with a move to White Hart Lane earlier this summer.

 

Earlier this summer some Tottenham fans scoffed at the idea of Spurs signing 34-year-old former Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso, following his release by the Nerazzurri.

But while the Lilywhites were previously linked with a move for the Argentine, it would appear that the ex-Real Madrid man is now heading to Leicester City with Foxes manager Nigel Pearson confirming that talks are ongoing.

A veteran midfielder the wrong side of 30 he may be, but Tottenham could yet rue the day they passed up on the opportunity to sign Cambiasso.

Here are five reasons why.

Cambiasso has a point to prove to Inter Milan

 

The South American may have spent a decade at the San Siro, winning domestic and European honours, but that didn’t stop Inter treating him harshly during his final season with the Nerazzurri.

According to the man himself, while Inter may have decided long before not to offer Cambiasso a new deal, the Argentine was only told the news 24 hours before their final game of the season.

"They could have even told me maybe a week before, given that I had spent 10 years at Inter,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Keen to show them what they are missing, a Premier League switch would offer the perfect platform for Cambiasso to silence any Milan-based doubters. It’s just a shame it won’t be with Spurs.

The Argentine has played at the highest level

 

 

While Tottenham boast plenty in the way of talented midfielders, few possess the pedigree of the Argentine, who has won countless Serie A titles with Inter as well as a Champions League in 2010 under Jose Mourinho.

A Real Madrid academy star, the Argentine also spent two years at the Bernabeu and was an integral part of the midfield, alongside Claude Makelele, that helped the likes of Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane tick.

Cambiasso also picked up 52 caps for the Argentina national team with his crowning moment coming in a famous team goal scored by the midfielder for the Albiceleste at the 2006 World Cup. A highly capable defender and defensive midfielder, he could have offered guidance to the likes of Nabil Bentaleb.

Cambiasso could have been the new Edgar Davids

 

A fair few eyebrows were raised when the 31-year-old Edgar Davids arrived at White Hart Lane back in 2005, with some questioning whether an ageing and out-of-form midfielder who had featured just 14 times for Inter Milan the previous season would make the grade at Spurs.

But the Dutchman quickly silenced his critics, helping to instil the winning mentality he brought with him from trophy-laden spells at Ajax and Juventus and giving the Lilywhites midfield the kind of bite previously associated with Roy Keane in his Manchester United heyday.

A similarly intense and tenacious tackler, Cambiasso may have enjoyed limited playing time this term with Tottenham but his experience and winning mentality could have helped push the club towards a top four finish. Who would you rather bring on to see out a 1-0 win at Old Trafford?

The midfielder has not suffered a dip in form with age

 

When it comes to Cambiasso, it would appear that age is most definitely a number. Happy to sign a one-year deal with his next club, that would have been more than enough time for the defensive midfielder to show his abilities, which extend to finding the net in key fixtures.

The Argentine featured 32 times for the Nerazzurri last term and  scored four goals despite taking on a largely defensive role, with one of those strikes coming in a crucial 2-1 win over Fiorentina which helped Inter secure Europa League football .Having played 30 league games or more over the past seven seasons in Italy, he could have been a reliable squad player and leader both on and off the pitch for Tottenham.

Cambiasso is capable of bringing the best out of those around him

 

With Mauricio Pochettino keen to continue Erik Lamela's renaissance at White Hart Lane, Cambiasso could have proven the ideal foil to his younger compatriot, having helped several teams get the best out of previously troubled Argentine playmakers.

During the early part of his career at Inter, former Manchester United flop Juan Sebastian Veron thrived thanks in part to the efforts of Cambiasso while Jose Pekerman was able to build the Argentina national team around Juan Roman Riquelme and the former Tottenham target. He could have also helped Lamela ease further into London life and provided some much-needed support.

Bringing in a younger player who can develop, is not the solution to this season, and establishing ourselves. We can't afford to wait. Quality and experience is needed NOW!

I've read War and Peace twice since the cambiasso link was first announced... What a saga!!!

 

that was posted on the 24th and even NP has come out and said things have moved forward since then.
