Just a thought. If we are set on landing JD, does anyone think that the club may be a little caught out again waiting for him to possibly make his mind up.

He obviously has his suitors, esp one at least in an area- I presume- of his choice, and as much as we would love to think otherwise we may not be the first club of choice for him.

Now nobody, esp me, really knows what went on in the summer with regard to missed signings, but it looks clear it has had an impact on the position we are at this moment.

We spent an awful long time putting eggs in baskets with EB, and as he was in a similar position to JD therefore I ask given this may still go down to the wire in a months time, will it 1.be viable for the club and 2.Will a couple of adverse results change JDs view of our prospects of survival anyway.

Could we get caught up in that one player search trap again?

id like to see JD here but  maybe the Crotian striker is a better long term option, highly doubt both would come, but we have created 158 chances this season apparantly so we do need a regular goalscorer

Reported in the back of todays sun column that Sven goran eriksson is trying to hijack the potential transfer (Yes i know it's toilet paper material but thought i'd post it up)

Nope. The main talking point of the time was all the gubbins about QPR having big name players at the club, on big wages and still failing to get promotion. Which, of course, ended up a certain way.

The fact that Redknapp stated he hadn't signed many of these players, Hughes had, went un-noticed.

Feel free to moderate/ban/delete as you will, but that's how I saw most of the threads pan out.

Col is right.  There was a sense of injustice that we had to compete with QPR last season on what many on here felt was not a level playing field.  The main debate was why should QPR be able to keep players on Premier League wages and splash out even more money on the likes of Austin, when we were focused on cutting the wage bill.

Now its us bottom of the Premier League at New Year and many are screaming out for new signings to add quality.  The reality is -- as QPR found -- quality signings come at a price and often with complex contractual arrangements, which means if we do end up relegated, it could be very hard to get rid of the high earners at the end of the season.

But QPR were paying over the odds for Championship players.

I'd like to think if we're going to spend the money (and we need to to some extent) it will be spent wisely.

Not true.  Nearly all the players they signed in the season they were relegated from the Premier League were quality players:

Rob Green

Samba Diakite

Park Ji-Sung

Junior Hoilett

Julio Cesar

Esteban Granero

Stephane Mbia

Sam Magri

Loic Remy

Yun Suk-Young

Christopher Samba

Jermaine Jenas

The following season in the Championship, they signed:

Danny Simpson

Richard Dunne

Karl Henry

Charlie Austin

Gary O'Neil

Matt Phillips

Oguchi Onyewu

Yossi Benayoun

Coll Donaldson

Aaron Hughes

My view was that Redknapp was trying to deflect blame, get himself an excuse then go out and do the same as before. So yes, Hughes did sign many of the players, but Redknapp added his own for similar fees and wages. That was the issue. If Pearson had criticised Sven for signing Yakubu on £50k a week then proceeded to sign players on £70k you don't think that would've made headlines on here? QPR can spend what they like, if it keeps them up then job done. Same as ourselves.

If we can spend it and can afford it then go ahead and get the signings done. Hopefully we'll get some good deals done. If QPR spend more than us, so be it.

Why do people on here bother discussing things like wages?. It's not our decision to make. And besides, the Thais didn't become billionaires by slinging their money away. Just concentrate on a players ability and let the money men sort the financials out. It's them that pay the fine not us.

There's been a number of cases where self made millionaires have taken over clubs and left them bankrupt.

Just because it looked like that in the public domain doesn't mean we weren't trying equally hard to sign other players.

Wwe know from the scouting reports LCFC have published that we have a long list of 'graded' players we're interested in and pursuing. Pearson keeps his transfer dealings close so the only ones we hear about are when the other 'side' let it be known for their own ulterior motives.

Any particular reason?

He didn't go to specsavers.

If we can afford to take on both Defoe and Kramaric in this window and in doing so we don't jeopardise ourselves with FFP should we go down I don't see the harm in doing so and it would certainly add quality to the squad which hopefully brings on pitch benefits too.

We also spent comparatively very little compared to other teams in the summer window. I estimate Burnley and Palace probably spent less while Stoke and Sunderland maybe matched our rough estimate of £10-12mil on Ulloa, Simpson and Lawrence. Everyone else spent considerably more. That while we arguably had more cause than some of those teams to strengthen our squad given our newly promoted status. Therefore its not totally unreasonable that we would balance our spending with other PL clubs in January by spending a fee on Defoe and Kramaric and still having money left to strengthen elsewhere (we've already stregthened our GK options with a free in Mark Schwarzer). Not necessarily correct but another way of looking at the probability of us getting both.

Reports on sky sports are saying Steve Bruce has said JD might be too expensive for Dull but there is still a long way to go and he doesn't want to give the Dull fans hope !!

Read into that what you will but let's hope we can get some quality in before the villa game !!

Can't see us signing both Defoe and that Karamic that would leave us with Nugent, Vardy, Wood, Ulloa, Defoe & Karamic, Wood maybe on his way out but that still leaves us with 5.

Nugent can play a deeper role, and according to Tripe it's Krameric's best position also, still room for Defoe.

Kramaric seems like he is a short term fix - which Nigel has now accepted may be a good thing under present circumstances. Defoe, on the other hand, won't be allowed to leave Toronto unless he is sold. Wood will go on loan to get game time (likely).

Leaving us with Vardy and Defoe as our quicker/crafty players, Ulloa and Kramaric as our tall men & Nuge in the supporting role.

I remember very vividly Nigel saying in the last transfer window; "You can never have enough strikers". 5 is a good number.
