Babylon Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 Blimey! If those figures are correct they show just how important, just in financial terms, it is to stay in the Prem. Do you think the owners might lose interest if we go down Babs? They seem to be be running the club very sensibly so I don't see why they would get bored (if you mean in a financial sense, they could obviously get bored of football) they stand to gain nothing by upping sticks. With FFP they can let the club tick over using what it earns and not have to put another penny of their own cash in. They would still own one of the biggest teams with one of the biggest budgets. Rather than chucking all their eggs in one basket and spending every penny on trying to stay up, they seem to be also using the money to make sure we can sustain a very good squad for the next 4 years.
MC Prussian Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 People need to get over this fixation with how much players cost and how much they are paid. If we pay peanuts we will get Championship players. Not quite - I'm all for sensible spending (whatever that is), but from past experiences, we're a club that's always been better at developing own young talent or getting in talented or unknown/underrated players from outside for cheap. Having said that, I'm a big fan of Defoe (and Lennon for that matter), so occasionally, I'm tempted to throw my standards overboard. Exceptions proving the rule and all that...
BlueJoe Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 Messi never tracks back..so don't want the cant here.. Messi is overrated! Not as good as what we have on our bench!
hackneyfox Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 but from past experiences, we're a club that's always been better at developing own young talent We haven't developed that many over the years.
Buce Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 That's just Sunderland. Or maybe Hartlepool.. http://www.historic-uk.com/HistoryUK/HistoryofEngland/The-Hanging-of-the-Hartlepool-Monkey/
DB11 Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 People need to get over this fixation with how much players cost and how much they are paid. If we pay peanuts we will get Championship players. Or seeing as we've been close to going under when we went into administration, and the fact we have seen it happen to Portsmouth (amongst other smaller clubs), we don't want Leicester to go the same way.
Vicki Vixen Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 People need to get over this fixation with how much players cost and how much they are paid. If we pay peanuts we will get Championship players. I made this point a number of times last season in the anti-QPR threads. Now we are in the situation ourselves, maybe a few more people will realise why QPR gambled on keeping their Premier League status by spending the money needed to sign quality players rather than resigning themselves to relegation and life back in the championship.
gazfox9 Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 There aren't many proven premier league goalscorers like him who'll be happy to come to us AND affordable. Deffo worth a gamble as the odds on him scoring goals are pretty good. The potential outlay weighed up against the potential reward makes it a good deal for us (as long as we're not talking silly high wages)
jonthefox Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 Why do people on here bother discussing things like wages?. It's not our decision to make. And besides, the Thais didn't become billionaires by slinging their money away. Just concentrate on a players ability and let the money men sort the financials out. It's them that pay the fine not us.
queensguardfox Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 Is this thread just on copy and paste since the first page straight through, its the same sh!t on repeat.

But QPR were paying over the odds for Championship players. I'd like to think if we're going to spend the money (and we need to to some extent) it will be spent wisely.

I think the main talking point was that the manager slated the club for signing players on £80k a week and the chairman being ripped off, then proceeded to sign players for £100k a week. Pearson hasn't said we won't spend money, and big money at that.
Guest Col city fan Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 I think the main talking point was that the manager slated the club for signing players on £80k a week and the chairman being ripped off, then proceeded to sign players for £100k a week. Pearson hasn't said we won't spend money, and big money at that. Nope. The main talking point of the time was all the gubbins about QPR having big name players at the club, on big wages and still failing to get promotion. Which, of course, ended up a certain way.The fact that Redknapp stated he hadn't signed many of these players, Hughes had, went un-noticed. Feel free to moderate/ban/delete as you will, but that's how I saw most of the threads pan out.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 I get that we need to invest to stay up, but we need to invest wisely, there is absolutely nothing worse for the club long term than over paying for players in both fees and wages, without the right clauses in place to make sure we aren't absolutely crocked were we to go down. What's more preferable, spunk money and hope for the best, be sensible and hope for the best or do little/no business and hope for the best. We can't just splash out willy nilly and give any player whatever they want, it could absolutely cripple the club.
Claridge Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 Defoe went to America for the money crippling any chance he had of going to the World Cup. If the monies there he will come, whether we want someone like that is another matter. I would take the risk but not over bothered if it doesn't,t happen
Fox 4 Life Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 Sky sports are saying Hull are in the driving seat but Bruce is saying its not a done deal, no mention of us.
SecretPro Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 Sky sports are saying Hull are in the driving seat but Bruce is saying its not a done deal, no mention of us. WTF.

Ric Flair Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 This is why Pearson almost always refuses to talk about transfers. Just because Hull are keen as well doesn't mean we aren't in the driving seat, it seems we'll throw some wedge this month as we're getting desperate. Jermaine will purely be here for the money and I'd be surprised if he'd go to a dump like Hull. At least with us he can still live in London.
Callabinho Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 Reports in Toronto are suggesting its all us, it's the waiting game again.
Robin JD Popley Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 Reports in Toronto are suggesting its all us, it's the waiting game again. Think I'd go with their judgment to be fair. Not to say Hull don't want him, much like QPR but financially we can offer the best package at present. We've had to play the long game before and we are only on day three of the window. Plenty of time left yet. Think he'll come here though if Canadian press are confident.
