Jermain Defoe

Would slot back into any bottom half first team and a few top half, natural goalscorer, unfortunately he has a relationship with ARRY and will prob end up going there on loan

So how likely is this to happen now? What seems to have swung it our way over him going to see 'Arry?

Arry can only loan he has no funds to buy players in this window, maybe that swung it?

Anything to keep city in the premier league cement our place for next season then rebuild a stronger squad capable of staying here, and I think with Defoes assists goals and experience is just what we are lacking at the moment !

Makes you

Augh really people saying we just aren't scoring enough moan moan moan, then we are tipped to be taking a proven goal scorer and you still moan about his wages who gives a flying Fook what the owners want to pay for premiership survival !!

It's all about not being sucked back down back into the championship and then who knows how long it will be next time to climb back ??

Could be a great signing for city !!

I would say palace out of those. WBA won't want to alienate berahino and dull Is too far from London (where, if he is back in the uk, I expect he'll want to live again). Palace need someone like him aswell.

The fact that it is early in the window is a positive, you would hope cash isn't the be all and end all, QPR's owner has a lot on his plate if some of the AirAsia stories are to be believed. We do create chances just need someone to convert and it is another option, also plenty of managers like his attitude.

I thought they were having to sell him in order to strengthen the team.

It's not all moan moan moan. Most of us have craved for that goal-scoring striker. But it's a football forum and all we are discussing is whether Jermaine would be the RIGHT one. The one we need. There is never a more important time to get this signing correct.

Your final sentence states 'he could be a great signing for City' and yes, he could. But he could also be the wrong one. Get this right NOW and I think we'll stay up. Get it wrong however and I fear relegation. I think it's that important.

I agree that getting it right is important, but when you factor in where we are in the league, we can't compete with the big boys in the transfer market, then I think of all the names banded about and Defoe has to be the best chance of us avoiding relegation if its goals we are lacking. Yes it's a gamble, just like Cottee was, but in the position we are in, I don't think there are too many proven goals scorers who would a) join Leicester b) be affordable and c) have the right attitude. Many on here, probably me included, thought the Beckford signing would propel us to the Premier League, so yes buying a striker in our price range is going to have an element of risk.

Agree with you about the football forum bit bit I'm a bit pi55ed off at the negative merchants like for example when we went 1-0 then 2-0'down at Liverpool and all the behind the sofa anti PEARSON brigade then moaning how much Defoe is going to be payed well as we all know nearly all footballers are overpayed do you honestly think a player is worth £300k per week ?? I'm not !

But yes if the owners think Defoe is worth £70k a week it's up to them PEARSON and the owners obviously think he can do the business for us to help keep us up then who knows we sign Defoe and we get a couple more decent signings.

But col I understand how it's a gamble to sign him let's hope he can stay fit and score the goals for us to win games and stay up !!??

Why are people bleating on about money

We are debt free

Own the ground

Will earn 200m over the next 3-4 years even if go down

And the owner is filthy rich

So what does it matter what we spend ?

Get on and spend it and plenty of it

We'll earn £200m over 4 years even after relegation?

We'll get £60m parachute payments, turnover I'd imagine will drop back down to low £20m. So income is likely to be around £140-150m. Which is before wages, before we went up we were already running at a loss lets not forget. So wages are likely to be anything from £25-£35m per season.

The owners are not going to put any money in, I'd of thought that was abundantly clear by now after the last couple of years. They want the club to run on it's own two feet, they have repeated that a number of times.

Oh and the club don't own the ground the owners do, in a separate company.

I think Lennon as a signing would improve us more as a team but Defoe undoubtedly has quality. He also has a knack of scoring from absolutely nothing which may dig us out of holes on days when all is not going to plan. Will be nice to have a player who wants to take shots on.

Blimey! If those figures are correct they show just how important, just in financial terms, it is to stay in the Prem.

Do you think the owners might lose interest if we go down Babs?

So who is the right one?

Martyn Waghorn or big Emmanuel Thomas at Bristol. Both clear quality..
