StanSP Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 He is out of his depth but we don't need Grewks to remind everyone literally everytime he does something poor. Can get very tiresome. This.
lgfualol Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 His 'shot' was hilarious. Still waiting for him to follow up on his "unfinished business" in the Prem comments.
Spicer Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 Honestly I believe last seasons strike pairing of Nuge and Vardy are not ready for the step up. They give 110% but that is not enough at this level. Today's performace is a bit of a proof, Vardy wasted 2 great opportunities for the team. Nugent had one terrible shot in the 25 minutes he was on and from what I remember did nothing else. I think Wood is young so can improve but is not curently up to standards of the prem. Ulloa will score if is given the chances. But he was massively overpriced. In January we need at least 2 more strikers for the first team.
Guest ttfn Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 Nugent is pretty hopeless at this level. I was a big fan of his before he signed for us and felt that he got a raw deal on his first crack at the Prem. Despite some (very) barren spells, the 3 years he had with us at championship level he was great for us and routinely one of the best 3 or 4 players in a side which finished 9th, 6th and 1st. But this season he has been absolutely nowhere near the standard required. At all. I'm sure a huge part of that is confidence but he's not making it easy for himself with some of the mental decisions he's making. That shot was absolutely ridiculous - he was never going to score from there and it was a promising position for the team.

Absolutely pathetic decision making, even the best players who are probably capable of scoring from such a silly angle would've analysed the situation and realised the only option was to pass. Pathetic stuff from David.
MC Prussian Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 Surprise surprise. Comes on for about 20 mins and guess who's first to pop up to criticise... I do think Grewks is hilariously quick to jump on him but... you've got to admit, he isn't wrong. Nugent's out of his depth. Ineffective I'm afraid. He is out of his depth but we don't need Grewks to remind everyone literally everytime he does something poor. Can get very tiresome. What Grewks notices is the missing end product, pretty much stating the obvious. We can all see that Nugent's not scoring at the moment. I think after today's showing and the past few games where we've remained scoreless, the reasons lie deeper and don't stop with Nugent. The whole team, in particular and in this case midfield and forwards, are having a torrid time linking up and clicking. At least there's indications we're getting lady luck back on our side soon - I think we're moving closer to the opposing box and are more and more posing an attacking threat once more. But our finishing in general is either woeful (by that I mean often overly complicated, Mahrez was a specialist today) or the forwards are getting little to no service from midfield.
Dickov22 Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 All hope of getting a goal today ended when Pearson inexplicably replaced Vardy with Nugent. What was he thinking
Guest ttfn Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 All hope of getting a goal today ended when Pearson inexplicably replaced Vardy with Nugent. What was he thinking That Vardy was knackered and looked like he might get sent off. Nugent is not a good option but taking off Vardy was the right call
cjslcfc Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 All hope of getting a goal today ended when Pearson inexplicably replaced Vardy with Nugent. What was he thinking To be honest, Vardy was pretty hopeless today. He was probably responsible for ending some, if not all, of our most dangerous attacks. Never seen him so indecisive/clumsy on the ball.
Unabomber Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 All hope of getting a goal today ended when Pearson inexplicably replaced Vardy with Nugent. What was he thinking Wtf I get it you love Vardy, but he was absolutely spent when Nigel took him off and it was without a doubt the right decision at the time.
orbison Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 Just shows how we carried his last season. He wouldn't fit in a top half championship side. yes global warming its nugents fault, the nhs is crap its nugents fault, are you and igfualot joined at the hip or what? you do not the difference between a football or one of katie price's boobs.
Corky Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 Just shows how we carried his last season. He wouldn't fit in a top half championship side. No, he fitted into the champions quite well actually. He's not good enough for this level but don't rewrite history. He played a huge part last season.
Dickov22 Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 Wtf I get it you love Vardy, but he was absolutely spent when Nigel took him off and it was without a doubt the right decision at the time. Vardy was garbage today (I gave him the lowest mark in the ratings thread) but a garbage Vardy offers more than Nugent does. At least he has pace. Nugent was utterly woeful and once Vardy and then Ulloa went off, we had nothing
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 Arguably Vardys worst display in a City shirt. Seriously lacking today.
Callabinho Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 Nugent is terrified, that "shot" basically said "get this ****ing ball away from me".
lgfualol Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 I'll have nightmares about when Vardy had the ball we had 3 other players making runs and he just.ran.into.the.sunderland.player. Mahrez had so much space. Oh lord. Reckon we'll get a new striker and see nugent out on loan in Jan.
lcfcsnow Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 Reckon we'll get a new striker and see nugent out on loan in Jan. Should have happened 6 months ago, who's Pearson going to attract though, David mcgoldrick?
iancognito Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 Should have happened 6 months ago, who's Pearson going to attract though, David mcgoldrick? Having "attracted" Cambiasso, it shouldn't be a problem. Players don't come for managers, they come for the money, any other considerations are secondary. As for Nuge, I like the guy but he's playing like someone who knows he's not a top level striker. It's confidence and unless he flukes one or hits a worldy I just don't see it happening for him.

But Nugent really isn't offering anything. That shot was just proof that he's got little confidence and I think deep down, even he believes he isn't good enough for this level. It was his final chance at this league and if I was manager, then to be honest I'd be looking to sell now. He's just got no threat at all. His decision making isn't good enough, his link-up play seems to have diminished, he never beats a man and like I say, his confidence is shot. I don't see a future for him here. Saying that - I'm beginning to get concerned at even Vardy. Can't knock his work rate, but in terms of quality he's also looking a little out of his depth too. He's trying things that worked in the Championship but in the Premier League they just aren't coming off, and that Man Utd game, whilst it was exceptional from him, hasn't helped him since. No idea how some think Chris Wood in the answer. That lad was mediocre at best in the Championship. A forward is definitely needed in January. I think Vardy will eventually come good and I think Ulloa will too when he starts getting chances again, other than that our attacking options are Championship at best. I hold my hands up that I said in the summer we didn't need another forward after Ulloa had joined. I totally retract that. Our attack is poor.
Dan Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 Should have happened 6 months ago, who's Pearson going to attract though, David mcgoldrick? They'll have a trick up their sleeve. I think this summer's recruitment is proving to be their poorest in any window yet (mainly down to the majority of them not even playing) but I think they'll deliver in January. It's hard to pinpoint any names. I wouldn't be shocked to see a couple come in from the Serie A.
benpicko Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 Christ it's like he's personally gone to all of your houses and stabbed your pets
Dickov22 Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 Nugent is terrified, that "shot" basically said "get this ****ing ball away from me". Exactly what I said at the time. Also what I said after Chelsea away after his look over to the linesman during his one on one chance. He was desperate to be offside, because he knew he wouldn't score. His confidence is shot

Wood is the worst of the lot of them, he's a total oaf. Vardy will come good. He was so so poor yesterday but bar that I think he's been one of our better players this season. I also like Ulloa; thought he worked his socks off yesterday. We desperately need to bring another one in in Jan.
Bert Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 All hope of getting a goal today ended when Pearson inexplicably replaced Vardy with Nugent. What was he thinkingVardy was crap though?
Dickov22 Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 Vardy was crap though? Yeah I agree, he was our worst player however he gave us an outlet eg pace. We had absolutely no outlet once he departed, because Nugent offers nothing. It was clear to me from 75 minutes on we were not going to score.
