TheUltimateWinner Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 Was it that good? I still think we are missing quality in these areas: LB CB LM ST(?) We are costing for not strengthening these positions.
Mark Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 We were crying out for an attacking midfielder to play off the forward to replace Nugent but gave him a new deal instead, big mistake.
Guest Bilo Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 Sako from Wolves or Russell from Derby would fit into the team. As for a midfielder who can play in the hole, not so sure. Hoolahan?
lgfualol Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 At the time I agreed with Pearson that we had the quality needed. Then our whole team was on fire, so I'm thinking Nigel really did well. Now it's just a disaster or true colours? Anyway, in January we'll have to spend. Else we'll look back and think "Bloody hell we played 40 year old Konchesky at left back that season".
Tuna Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 Our signings were hopeless. Hamer - backup, barely played. Albrighton - barely played and then discarded Upson - never played lawrence - never played Simpson - never played Powell - never played Ulloa - looks increasingly like a donkey every game. Esteban - no improvement on what we already had. What happened to our signings being 'players you've never heard of'. And we gave GTF a new contract for fooks sake.
MooseBreath Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 We could have Christiano Ronaldo in the squad at the moment and Pearson would still find a way to leave him out of the team. Get the basic tactics and team selection right first and then start looking at the quality of individual players.
NewburyFox Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 I think not finding a quality replacement for Nugent is a massive error on the managements part. It means that we can't play how we played last season because he simply isn't up to it at this level, and Ulloa doesn't fit into direct, fast paced football. Another LB, CB and winger would've been good too, but the above is a big error.
Stadt Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 The squad are too similar, James, Drinky, Cambiasso and King. They can all pass well enough but they aren't creative enough.
stevelcfc Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 Need a driving energetic attacking mid. A pacey winger and a clinical striker in the defoe mould (but not defoe)
Claridge Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 If the owners had told Pearson he could spend big, then why the fXXk didn't he?
Donut Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 Hindsight is 20/20. Im pretty happy with the squad, it could be utilised better. I think that left back and left wing have become two areas for improvement, but we dont know that targets are already in place for January anyway to cover this.
EnglishOxide Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 Didn't agree with so many signings. We could have done without Upson and Albrighton. But we do have quality and we will win a game or two soon enough. Why is our fans first answer to bad results to sign more players?
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 As I have said elsewhere, the summer was a missed opportunity, and that was due to very poor management. As a result we will be spending this season attempting to salvage our Premiership status. To me, and I am probably wrong, winning the Championship in the style we did, it seemed like Pearson had said to himself, "job done." From that moment in time we have stood still, albeit getting some initial good results. Now we have been sussed out, and have no idea how to cope with it. We are in big trouble, sadly
Monsell1976 Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 The problem was we had a young squad, which looks promising, but don't know this league. I agree with his idea to give them a shot at the big time, but not to bring in enough experience and quality as back up, is now starting to show. The young players are going to be inconsistent as they get to grips with this league, vardy took a season to adjust to the championship, and him and the young squad will probaly take a season to adjust to the premier league. Sadly with these results and performances they may not be playing premier league football next season.
Legend_in_blue Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 I said at the time we needed around 7 new players. None of those we have brought in have offered significant improvements, bar Ulloa and possibly Cambiasso. We're still 5 players short imo. Carrying far too many Championship players and at this level, you can't get away with more than 3 in your team.
kingfox Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 We lack players with International experience or Premier League experience. We needed more in defence, definitely another left-back & maybe a better centre back. I still think we even lack a good quick passer in midfield who can create, while as we've proved recently we could of done with an extra one or two strikers, Pearson tried to get but he failed. January isn't an easy month to buy in; however Crystal Palace did pretty well in it last season. I'd look to loan someone like Clint Dempsey, get another left-back & if the midfield continues to struggle, sell Hammond & get in better.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 We were crying out for an attacking midfielder to play off the forward to replace Nugent but gave him a new deal instead, big mistake. We've got one in Nick Powell on loan
Guest Col city fan Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 What we did was what I and others had said we'd done. We strengthened in NUMBERS, but not in quality. And if Cambiasso was seen as our 'quality' addition, as he was by many, he was not good enough. He played ok today. But ok is not good enough. The team is crying out for a better quality midfield.
Tielemans63 Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 The failure to sign a new LB was the biggest mistake of the summer imho, the other signings were okay I thought. Konch is okay but not good enough to play week in, week out and Jeff is, well...Jeff.
harpendenfox Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 To think Nuge wanted 3 years bless him. Love him for his contribution in the Champ, but if we do stay up he'll go, as will Konch.
sylofox Posted 1 November 2014 Posted 1 November 2014 Wonder why we even bought in most of the player we did. Ulloa yes Cambiasso yes Hamer improvement on Logan yes Albrighton odd game injured or not fit for most of the season Upson Injured The rest have we even seen them. To me we should have bought in first choice improvements to what we had and not squad players or players for the future. The last window should have been total improvement to our first 11 not the squad. Yes our squad did great last season but no room for sentiment they were all paid well for last season and for what they did. From the first game this season it was about staying up not saying players deserved a chance after last season. You get fvck all points for sentiment
KFS Posted 2 November 2014 Posted 2 November 2014 Did Top's comment misconstrued by the press make things difficult?
