We need to strengthen with key, first name on the team sheet type players which Powell clearly isn't therefore sending him back frees up a space. Do you want a tissue Col? It didn't work out but they made a profit when they sold him and that profit effectively bought Mahrez who, while he was poor on Tuesday, has been terrific value.

And, while we're at it, Nugent was dropped and Gary Taylor-Fletcher isn't proving to be any higher up the pecking order than the new boys, so at least I've got a few things right.

But, when he signed I was thoroughly disappointed with his interview for the club site. Never have I seen such a disinterested, bored-looking interview from a footballer - and that's saying a lot. Powell's lack of first-team action and his impending return to Man Utd will come as no surprise if he carried that attitude into training.

Telegraph Sport understands Powell has infuriated Pearson and his backroom team with his attitude in training and general timekeeping since joining on loan in September. United have the option to recall the £4million midfielder in January and are poised to bring him back and then loan him out again, with the 20-year-old already emerging as a target for Bolton Wanderers manager Neil Lennon. Described as a future England international by Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager who signed him from Crewe Alexandra, Powell’s career is in danger of going backwards. In what way was the telegraph wrong the first time? They said he'd be going back in January.
