That has to be it. Pearson needs to go.

No, but take a look at the managers who have been relegated from this league over the past ten years.

Magath, Solskjaer, Hughton, Martinez, Adkins, Redknapp, Kean, Coyle, Connor, Grant, Holloway, McLeish, Dowie/Brown, Laws, Mowbray, Shearer, Southgate, Robson, Jewell/Davies, Coppell, Warnock, Boothroyd, Pardew/Reed, McCarthy, Worthington.

It's hardly inspiring is it? How many of those have gone on to show what good Premier League managers they are? Bruce? Pardew? Martinez? Redknapp? McCarthy? Even those five out of - what, 27 names - have stopped some way short of being roaring successes. In fact, Redknapp went on to suffer a further relegation and McCarthy had a previous to his name.

If history tells us anything, it's that we might be best not to pin our hopes on bouncing straight back under Pearson and him showing himself to be a competent manager.

How many of the names you mention are decent managers you'd want to fall back to? I mean, really? They were sacked for a good reason. Because they were either incompetent or inexperienced or came to blows, causing a ruckus at the club(s) they were managing.

If anything, the list shows how hard it is to find a team leader, as all the good ones have been snapped up by the bigger clubs already and they're all very reluctant to let them go (as you'd understand). Playing the devil's advocate I could also say you could take a pick from all those names in a hat and they'd all deliver the same end result for this club.

You look at the names of managers of teams who are all still within our reach and there's a few "bigger" ones among them, too. If anything, it is an indicator as to how tough this league has become over the course of the past 10+ years and what rift has been caused between upper and lower half.

The only thing history has told us is that we're traditionally a club caught in between first and second division. And that it doesn't matter who's in charge or how "big" the name is at the helm, be it Pearson or not (just look at the Eriksson debacle). I, for my part, believe in this manager because he's guided us to Promotion and introduced fine young talent that is there to be built upon. That he can or could fail in the Premier League at the first time of asking was to be expected. And I'm not losing any more sleep over it.

We are where we are mainly thanks to Pearson's influence and bouncing back in the case of relegation is a realistic scenario, as unlikely as it seems to some and irrespective of teams who've struggled to achieve it in the past 20+ years. You cling onto records, but records are there to be broken.

People saying we will bounce straight back after relegation are starting to **** me off.

Not saying any more because I don't need to but don't assume just because we won the league once we will automatically do it again. Just as easy to spend 4 or 5 years missing out on play offs or getting beat in play offs

Nobody is saying we're guaranteed to, we're saying we have a better chance with Nigel Pearson who has a great record in the Championship, than anyone else who would come. Which is true.

I have always been a big Pearson fan. But its getting more and more difficult to defend him.

May well be too late to change manager now. Not sure who I would employ if we did sack Pearson.

How can you say that if you don't know who might come in? You can't say that hypothetically with such confidence without knowing who we might get.

If we are relegated and he stays and he gets us promoted again do you think he'd be given or should be given another chance in Prem?

NP has proved he is a decent championship manager, if we go down we will probably compete for the playoffs at best.

I don't under any circumstances think we will walk the league which of the relegated teams over the years has? Not many.

Yes we have parachute payments but if they aren't used in the investment of the first team it seems worthless imo.

My main gripe with NP is will he learn the lessons from this campaign? if he doesn't then I wouldn't mind the owners making a change.

Just a thought - given the McArthur bizarre incident and even weirder interview, might NP just do the decent thing and walk?? Clearly he is a man under intolerable pressure and it has got to him.

The notion of ''doing the decent thing and walking'' is laughable in football. When has a manager ever walked from a compensation package? In society, if things go crap in your job you are told to work even harder. Not quit.

He wouldn't walk...would forfeit his severance pay....Pearson isn't going to do that

I know plenty of people who have been so crap at their jobs and struggled that theyve handed their notice in

Have they also managed a larger group of people?

Two are fruitcakes, another could see his reputation totally blown apart and the other left at end of his contract.

Tickler28 just gave you good examples to your question and you try to wriggle out with this silly non-response. It's this sort of must have the last word rubbish that's cluttering up good debates and makes catching up worthwhile contributions to topics so unbearable..

When do you start blaming the players - are they all faultless?

Do you spot the holes in your theory?

Who's players are they?

I have no sympathy for him if we continue to miss chances whilst we leave a Croatian international forward on the bench. That, is being the master of your own downfall. That's what we have been all season.

Ok let's it get straight then. Davies lost it with the Derby board and his reputation was in tatters, he quit. Holloway, lost all face..weak character he quit. Redknapp foresaw himself already on his way and didn't like his transfer budget cut he quit. Pulis contract at Stoke ended, they moved him on.

All four were exceptions to the rule. As a rule of thumb, managers simply don't quit. They wait for the sack and go home with a million pound agreement.

Kevin Keegan did it as England Manager.

With burnley 2-0 up and not looking like conceding it looks like the gap has now widened to 5 points. Considering our next 4 premier league games things do not look promising at all.

Says it all really

Not good enough

We deserve to go Down as it stands

Very Very Very Poor in key Home Games - finishing diabolical, defensively cant go 90 minutes without a key mistake, and Ulloa has the speed of thought and action of a tortoise, and the first touch of a trampete.

About right
