Has Anyone Booked a Holiday Yet?

I found BA premium.economy an economy plus experience compared to Virgin, which I found a business class lite (which is kinda what you want from premium economy)

( on anither ba note, once upon a time I was a complete diva - asked for champers in BA premium economy. They said they hadn't got any. I accused them.of lying as business was awash with it and that I didn't ask for FREE champers, just that I wanted fackin champers. It didn't wash)

In the past, I've booked premium economy with BA and used avios to upgrade to business  for an extra £100 tax or so (club world, or whatever they call it)

The lounges at T5 Heathrow are excellent....though I chose not to abuse t he free nosh and booze as I wanted to enjoy the flight experience!

I agree re the lounge at T5, madness.

I fly economy with BA to Cape Town, not looking forward to that experience lol.

Just pray to god they shift you to an emergency exit.

I fluked it once on an 11 hour to Tokyo. It was blatant racism. We were the only white faces just about and the stewardess shifted us to an emergency seat...helpful.seeing as I'm over 6ft

I’m a midget but just can’t be arsed sitting with poor people to be honest lol

(That last part is a joke btw, I can occasionally tolerate it)

Thinking of doing a city break at the end of March. Hoping to go for 3 or 4 nights. Been looking at Prague, Krakow and Amsterdam.

Any recommendations?

I’ve been to Krakow and Amsterdam although I didn’t do much other than get wasted in the latter.

I loved Krakow, great vodka in some cool bars and picturesque centre with everything being pretty cheap. The salt mines are excellent and there is obviously Auschwitz.

The trips from Krakow were good but a fair distance away ...   Amsterdam has plenty to see and do in it ...    have you considered Bruges ?

I resisted the dam for years. All seemed so stereotypical, weed and whores etc. Neither of those things do anything for me!

But I went with an ex. Airbnb just 2/miles out of town. Bikes came with the gaff. Classic dutch Windmills and canals and tulips bike ride into town, free ferry across the river and a stunning historic city. I loved it. Just ride, chain up to a bridge and relax and soak it in.

No weed or sex shows/needed (though the red light is worth an idle wander just to people watch)

Has anybody ever been to Mexico? If so where abouts would you recommend? Are all the popular resorts based closed to Cancun or are there any hidden gems?

What sort of thing are you looking for?

Of the "resort" type places the Carribbean side (Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum etc have the best beaches and crystal clear warm sea but it's not really an authentic representation of Mexico (although Tulum is pretty decent with the ruins etc)

Pacific side (Puerto Vallarta and surrounds) feels more authentic, but beaches and sea not quite as nice.

Holbox and Bacalar were recently the "in" places amongst my wife's well to do Mexican friends, but don't know much about them personally.

Other well known beach places are  Los Cabos which is a place Americans go to die, and the surfing places in Oaxaca like Puerto Escondido which are geared more towards travellers. Huatulco is really nice and popular with Mexicans but unbearably hot.

Imo it'd be a shame to go to Mexico and just spend time in a resort, there is so much to see and do in the country.

To be completely honest, me and my girlfriend are looking to go away, a week relaxation holiday. We’ve been all over Europe between the two of us and we wanted to try something different and I’ve always wanted to go to Mexico. Maybe you’re right though, maybe for the type of things we’re looking for somewhere in the Caribbean may be a better bet and maybe do Mexico as part of a “bigger” trip.

Like get murdered by drug cartels lol.

I avoid mexico as they tend to kill us canadians every now and then when we fly down. I will  go one day but kind of put off by it for now even though its unlikely. But as i share a similar skin tone with locals im going to avoid for now lol

I went to sandals in antigua and while it was expensive it was fan-freakin-tastic.

If you are looking for something lighter on the wallet then cuba or dominican are your best bet. Cuba is safer if you ask me but food is MEHHHH at best.

I like all of those but maybe Krakow the most. Agree with the post above that Bruges is nicer than Amsterdam, but Amsterdam has more to do. In terms of some other places, Turin and Verona are nice cities with the possibility of some good day trips and lots of excellent food. Ljubljana is also a beautiful city.

Went to Bruges in Champions League. We spent roughly 3 days there, although we mainly stayed in the main square and went to a tiny restaurant for all you can eat ribs!

I've done some research online and its looking to be either Krakow or Amsterdam. Just a bit worried that there won't be enough to do in Krakow, obviously try out the local bars and restaurants but thinking more for the daytime. Hear Krakow is cheap as well though!

I've been to Amsterdam about 10 times now over the years - a mix of business and pleasure and I still find new places / things to do & enjoy. Revisiting is always fun. The city is stunning in terms of architecture and there is plenty of good food & drink (obviously) throughout as well. If you like weed then it's even better! There's tons of museums, galleries, parks and different areas to explore. It's not a cheap city to visit however but you can find reasonable prices if you're willing to look about and avoid the more tourist-trappy bars / restaurants. I love Amsterdam and highly recommend it if you've not been there before - one of the great cities of Europe and very quick to get to! Great for shopping too with a mix of high-end and boutique stores.

Krakow is also a beautiful city. Much smaller and much less to do BUT you can do things like visit Auschwitz - be warned, it's very emotional and will hit you harder than you can imagine but what better time to visit and learn the lessons of history - especially with everything going on with Brexit and the rise of the far-right again, currently. A timely reminder of what ignorance and hatred can do. I recommend this trip VERY highly - it's educational, emotional but very important. It's a day trip on a bus from Krakow bus station. You can also visit the salt mines which were pretty interesting. There's plenty of food and drink and prices were reasonable last time I went. It's nowhere near as bit as Amsterdam and 4 days might be overkill.

Prague is awesome too - been there 3 times over the years. A bit less modern in terms of shopping but there's plenty of great food & drink venues to explore. The castle on the hill is a good visit and if it's cold you'll enjoy walking about exploring whilst ducking into bars for a warming drink. Not as much to do as either Amsterdam or Krakow, imo.

If you've never been to Budapest I can highly recommend that. Personally I would look at Amsterdam, Budapest, Krakow, Prague - in that order (if I hadn't visited any of them before). Budapest is probably my favourite for a relaxing break - the baths there are amazing (I've recommended Rudas baths many times in this thread). The food and drink is cheaper than anywhere else and it has a great mix of history and nightlife, etc. Amsterdam comes up second because it's so much fun. Krakow would top my list for historical visits purely for Auschwitz but you may not want to embark on something so emotionally draining on a holiday, which is fair enough (even though I think it's very important to see it).

Hope that helps!

We're going to Perth (staying in Fremantle) next month for my brother-in-law's wedding but only for 8 days as my wife has used up her annual holiday allocation.

I've never done 'long-haul' before so that should be an experience in itself. Flying from Gatwick to Perth via Dubai with Emirates Airlines.

Spent months and months in Mexico across God knows how many trips. Never had or seen any issues anywhere, and I've travelled extensively there. Country has lots of issues but the likelihood of a tourist being affected is very slim.

A resort (would probably choose Playa del Carmen or Tulum) will be absolutely fine and advantage over Carribbean islands would be the food will be much nicer, but maybe an island would be better for the trip @Manini wants to make, especially if interested in exploring Mexico more later.

I dont fully disagree with you. Violence is anywhere but higher chance there that's all.

Decent food can be had on islands. Heck even going to trinidad and trek over to tobago could be good. Solid west "indian" food there. Rotis, curry, doubles  best in Caribbean will be had in those islands. But for beaches you got tonhot an island like domincan, st lucia, cuba etc

Nuremburg( Nuernberger Wurst) Sausages..

A German local and restaurant in a cellar..."Raubritter". Decent German-faire !!
