zak_lcfc Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 Very important game, playing them again now with renewed confidence in the team but missing arguably two of our most influential players in recent games. They fail to score a lot of goals (saying that we did concede two so anything can happen) but I think a single goal could decide the match here, I think they'll come to play counter attacking football so hopefully the back 4 can deal with their breakaways, I'm slightly confident for the first time in a while that we can win here, they won last time from sloppy errors, poor marking and against a team with low confidence, get the 3 points here and the table should look a lot better come 5pm Saturday
Guest MattP Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 Why do people keep saying must win? How many times do you have to say that? The must wins are at the end of the season, not now, our last 'must win or we are down' game was Spurs and it doesn't appear we are down. Anyway.... Hamer Simpson Morgan Wasyl RDL James Cambiasso Albrighton Nugent Knockaert Ulloa
CPW22 Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 I expect all the three teams above us to get points. Burnley to win at home, Palace to get a point off Spurs in Pardews first home game and West Brom to beat Hull under the same circumstance for Pulis. Not sure if that makes this game a must win given the teams above us play each other. Regardless, a win here will be massive for confidence and a statement to the teams around. I am firm believer it's key to stay within 3 points of the nearest team so I don't think a draw will be enough. Hamer Simpson Wes Moore (I expect NP to pick Waysl) RDL Knockaert James Cambiasso or King (depending on who is fit) Albrighton Nugent Ulloa

The must wins are at the end of the season, not now, our last 'must win or we are down' game was Spurs and it doesn't appear we are down. Well we need to win at least 8 more matches to have any chance of staying up. If you look at who we have left to play and where we have to play them you'd have to say this match would rank pretty high on the list of matches we are more likely to be able to win. If we lose our run of matches in February that could see us too far adrift to have a realistic chance of catching up the teams above us. Also we simply can't afford to leave ourselves needing to win say 8 of the last 12 matches, that just won't happen. So whilst statistically at this point this isn't a must win game I would say it is as near as damn it a game we simply have to win.
ealingfox Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 Why do people keep saying must win? How many times do you have to say that? The must wins are at the end of the season, not now, Its not literal obviously but there are 18 games left, in all likelihood we need 7 wins at least to survive. Of those 18 games we can pretty much write off 5 (Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Man U, Spurs) and more we have very little chance of winning (Everton, Southampton), and we're already down to our last 11 chances to win. We must win at home to Villa really.
lestajigs Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 Saw this on BBC Sport from the Sampdoria v Lazio gane - think we should do the same against Villa. That's brilliant

We must win at home to Villa really. The only three games I'd completely write off are Arsenal Man U and Man City away. Personally think 6 wins with a few draws will keep us up. We could really do with winning the game of course but it's getting fcuking tedious having to read must win or good as down if we lose every week. Footy fans never used to say these things until March/April at the earliest. We're already failed to win 4-5 of our 'must win' matches and lost one that made us as good as down yet 75% still fancy us to survive. Go figure. I think our form in April and May is going to decide whether we stay up or not win lose or draw come Saturday. Whatever happens I'm sure Stoke will be the next must win game. Lose that and we're down.

Footy fans never used to say these things until March/April at the earliest. People were using the phrase long before this game too. West Brom and Swansea were described as 'must win' by a few, we weren't even in the relegation zone at the time! You get the impression that some people really don't know what the words mean.
Phube Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 Saw this on BBC Sport from the Sampdoria v Lazio gane - think we should do the same against Villa. But what actually happened next?

lestajigs Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 But what actually happened next? A try for the Reds
Howard9 Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 Hamer Simmo Wes Moore De Late getting back Albrighton James Lawro/Camby Knocky Ulloa Nuge (If plays with enthusiasm like liverpool) Moore was a brick wall against newcastle and was I've always been a little sceptical about so give liam his spot back, albrighton deserves his chance, i wouldn't start james aka peter kay but he's our only fully fit central midfielder, lawro looked good for me definitely give him a shot or cambiasso if fit, knockaert all though he massively lacks pace, could be a little gem for us in the game, nugent been impressed with the last few games seems to be settled down a little now. As for the bench aslong as there is no konchesky i am very happy, i am sick of seeing that old useless waste at left back, can not pass, can not keep possession, can not defend, every time he plays i feel like we basically have 10 men
kingcarr21 Posted 7 January 2015 Posted 7 January 2015 Really fancy us to win this comfortably. Last 3 games the results have been good and confidence is sure to be coming back. At home i think we will be too much for Villa. There on a bad run so hopefully that continues. With the bottom teams playing each other the table could look alot better for us come 5pm.
Finnegan Posted 7 January 2015 Posted 7 January 2015 But what actually happened next? They lost three nil.
benpicko Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 Hamer Simpson - Was - Morgan - De Laet Albrighton - Drinkwater - James - Knockaert Kramaric Ulloa
benpicko Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 Surely kramaric won't be available It's not looking like it no
foxfanazer Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 Really looking forward to this one, and Stoke the week after. The buzz seems to be back around the club and everybody looks up for the fight. A shame we haven't got Mahrez or Schlupp but hopefully Knockaert and Albrighton can step up. 2-0 city win
kingcarr21 Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 We need an input from Pride of the Midlands isnt he a villa fan?
