Banks Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 I'd be very surprised if this happens. Hopefully it doesn't either.

Sol thewall Bamba Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 No chance! Obviously cover so Smith can go on loan.
Bert Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 No chance! Obviously cover so Smith can go on loan."No chance"?! Don't be so sure.
Guest MattP Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 The fact Schwarzer has been given an 18 month deal shows he's considered far more than cover. Still think he might go with Hamer tomorrow; but the Aussie is clearly being more than considered for a first team role.
Dan Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 I can see Schwarzer starting. Why would he come here to not play? He'll be our best goalkeeper.
ousefox Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 Mark Schwarzer lured by Leicester City first-team chance Mark Schwarzer says the chance to play regularly tempted him to leave his role as back-up to Thibaut Courtois and Petr Cech at Chelsea and join Leicester. The 42-year-old keeper did not feature for the Blues this term and has signed an 18-month contract with the Foxes. "It was the draw of being able to be more involved and hopefully being able to play in the Premier League," Schwarzer told BBC East Midlands Today. "It is a new challenge in my career and a very exciting one." Schwarzer only played 12 times for Chelsea last season but did appear in both legs of the Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid and took his tally of Premier League appearances to 508 while Cech was injured. But with Courtois now first choice and Cech his understudy, Schwarzer said it was the right time to move on. He is expected to go straight into the side for Saturday's game against Aston Villa, replacing Ben Hamer who has been deputising for theinjured Kasper Schmeichel. Defying the yearsMark Schwarzer will become Leicester City's oldest player and oldest debutant if he plays against Aston Villa on Saturday. Kevin Phillips, 40, is currently City's oldest debutant and Joe Calvert, 40 years and 313 days, the oldest player. "I have come here with the hope of playing football. Everyone wants to play and it us up to the manager to make those decisions," he said. "All you can do is train and work hard every day." Schwarzer said it was a "straightforward decision" to sign for Leicester and work under Nigel Pearson - a manager who he played alongside at Middlesbrough in the late 1990s. "I know Nigel pretty well," said Schwarzer. "I have not had the experience of working with him as a manager, but I played with him and I rate him very highly as a player and a person. "He has always been very straight, very honest and very hard-working and that's something I have always looked for in myself. Play media Jump media player Media player help Out of media player. I still want to play in the Premier League next season. "I can understand people having a concern about my age - that's normal. Since I was 35, people have been saying I was past it. I think I have proved a lot of people wrong since then and I still believe I can prove people wrong now. "Ultimately you get judged by your performances."
Webbo Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 I can see Schwarzer starting. Why would he come here to not play? He'll be our best goalkeeper. 5 years ago maybe, not so sure now.
Matt Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 Would feel very sorry for Hamer. Hamer is there on merit and deserves his place. Hamer's come in played and played well, now Schwarzer has arrived as far as i'm concerned Schmichel is now 3rd choice. I'm excited and happy about signing Schwarzer but don't think Hamer deserves dropping, what does that say to Hamer? What kind of example does it set to the other players when he's came in played well and dropped in this way? And if it's true what Bert says saying Pearson doesn't rate Hamer after his one mistake v Tottenham, which imo was the fault of the wall for splitting in such a manner then god know how he rates Kasper.
MHC Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 The reaction to this signing has been underwhelming in my opinion. Goalkeepers are at their peak in the late stages of their careers and I think Schwarzer is a brilliant signing regardless of his age. He is probably our best goalkeeper now. His age means nothing, van der sar was excellent for Man United and he played well into his 40s, Brad Friedel is another example. Mark Schwarzer will win points for this club on his own.
glen parva fox Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 Have to stick with Hamers, he's done nothing wrong!
TheUltimateWinner Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 If I were Hamer and I were dropped I would purposely bang Pearsons daughter. Make sure he walks in on us and all.
dayday Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 This will really do the team morale a lot of good if dropped,i can understand it if Hamer was playing shit, but he is doing all right, shocking decision if Nigel is even thinking it.
Captain... Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 Pearson will stick with Hamer, not enough time to assess Schwarzer, probably make his debut in the FA cup unless Hamer drops a clanger or gets injured.
biggs Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 Let me start with stating, I like the way Hamer has played but I have no issues with Schwarzer being selected for the Villa match. If NP sees him as the preferred choice, there is the chance that he is. At this level, it's not about hard feelings, it's about putting a team out there each week the manager feels is best suited to win. If that's with Schwarzer, then so be it.
1972 Fox Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 Schwarzer will start tomorrow ahead of Hamer IMO. The experience that Schwarzer brings will be invaluable. Hamer has done okay but doesn't convince me that he is ready yet as a no 1 Premier League keeper. No time for sentiment as we need to win games. If NP chooses to pick Schwarzer that's good enough for me.
The Blue Moon Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 Lest we forget Pearson doesn't rate Hamer, according to the oracle that is Bert. Apparently he only signed him because Chris Powell told him to.
MPH Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 If i was Hamer and Schwarzer walked straight into the side i would slap a transfer request in right there and then. It would be clear that Nige Doesnt rate him highly enough. First game he played he did fine, Kasper walked straight into the team even though he hadnt done anything wrong. This time around he has been a more than able deputy and to me the defense has looked far more stable with him in it - a GK commanding the box is what we have been missing. And yes, he may of made a mistake or two but show me a keeper who hasnt. Hamer may retain his place of course and i really hope its just paper talk, but it would be incredibly harsh on Hamer. You could count on one hand the players who have looked consistently comfortable making the stap up from the champ to the prem and i think he is one of them.
Katy Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 Harsh on Hamer if so. He's been more than able cover for Kasper.
MPH Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 i mean we are talking about a 42 year old who has played very little first team footy over the last 18 months. Surely he needs to be assessed for longer to see if he is match sharp. In my opinion, unbeaten in three is not the time to be making this kind of decision. an unsettled GK display now could undo alot of hard work against a team we are all hopeful of beating....
MC Prussian Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 I can see Schwarzer starting. Why would he come here to not play? He'll be our best goalkeeper. Our most experienced? For sure. Our best? I'd argue with that. Personally, I find it more logical that Schwarzer is likely go be given starts against the more established teams or in the more crucial fixtures, where his experience can come in handy. Then again, all of our remaining fixtures are pretty much crucial.
Long Eaton Fox Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 Don't think Hamer has done much wrong but don't think he has done much right either. Never seems to get close to any shots. Not made many clangers and comes for crosses but can't remember any decent saves. All the shots on target end up in the net!
