avyoursay Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 Not sure if that was our worse performance of the season, it must be close to it, but how typical it being shown live on normal tv viewing. Most people's opinions now outside of Leicester would be that that's why we are bottom! It really was embarrassing to watch, not just City's performance but the whole match. League 1 level would be being kind to be honest. People criticise Pearson's decision making during a match, but I have to say, I don't think he makes any!
GloverFox Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 ... I think it just feels as though we've been pasted by a pub side, but yes; Villa are a premier league side ... Just and for now! What is really hurting is the failure, utterly and total failure and the realisation that the expectations that we we could live with the premier league have been mangled beyond belief! This season has just been one long miserable experience and the new Sky/BT contract is merely going to increase the massive divides of the top 6, the chancer clubs and the rest of the football league ... No more money from me, I'm out!
avyoursay Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 Was there a record number of season tickets bought for this season? Me thinks next season could be a record low! Whatever division we're in, who in their right mind would want to shell out good earned money on this shite? To think most of our players are being paid £30,000 per week for that! Think about it, it's criminal. It would be far more if there wasn't a cap. Other so called stars, not in our team, but being paid over £100,000 per week, and with the new sky/BT deal, this could triple easily. Will ticket prices come down? Will Pearson play Allbrighton from the start, will he drop Morgan, will he resign? I think the answer to all these is absolutely not!!!

Guybino Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 in all seriousness what can be gained from sacking pearson now? who will replace him? stick it out
st albans fox Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 in all seriousness what can be gained from sacking pearson now? who will replace him? stick it out stick it out for what though? He doesn't seem to be learning anything. He stumbled across a decent formation at arsenal and didn't realise he had to tweak it against villa. He just seems a bit 'thick'. There , I said it .
davieG Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given has been a surprise inclusion in the European team of the week, which is selected by Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport. Each week they select a team from players outside Serie A and after his performance against Leicester City last weekend the former Republic of Ireland No.1 has been picked. This was Given’s first game of the season but he has found himself in a selected European team alongside the likes of Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi. Aston Villa progressed to the quarter finals of the FA Cup against their midland rivals Leicester City which was the perfect start for new manager Tim Sherwood. Given made a string of saves to help his side to the next round of the competition in which it has been a poor season for the club. Aston Villa currently tie in the relegation places but their progression in the FA Cup should help bring back some confidence to the team. Given has hardly featured for Aston Villa in the past couple of seasons and has made just 34 Premier League appearances since he signed from Manchester City during the 2011-12 campaign. He had a brief spell with Middleborough last season in order to get more playing opportunities but since returning to Aston Villa he has had to again watch from the side-lines.
Guest Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 villa were crap and we made them look good utter shite so disapointed We didn't make them look good. They looked even worse than us but their keeper made a couple of great saves. Both teams looked like they should be in the conference and only Given gave Villa the win instead of a loss. Having watched that game you'd have thought that Villa's normal starting GK is a worldie.
justfoxes Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 We were beaten yesterday by a poor Villa team who was bigger up at half time by their new manager who changed things around and was more attacking, schwarzer was at fault for the second for not holding onto the ball or pushing it out for a corner and we started playing far too late in the game with poor subs ! Pearson out who would we bring in ?? But I don't think the Thais will sack him what with the debacle of sacking gate is he isn't he ?? As I feel they wouldn't welcome anymore negative press !! I'm still putting my money on us just surviving I've always aid from the start we will finish around 15th and I for one wouldn't mind finishing 17th as were only five points from safety and there's still a way to go !!
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 stick it out for what though? He doesn't seem to be learning anything. He stumbled across a decent formation at arsenal and didn't realise he had to tweak it against villa. He just seems a bit 'thick'. There , I said it . Entirely agree, yes play a back 5 vs Arsenal and Villa but don't approach both teams/games with the same mentality, ok a defensive back 5 vs Arsenal but play a more attacking vs Villa, like you said tweak the team, play De Laet and Schlupp at FB yesterday.
Eskay Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 Some people are going on like we've been beaten by a non-league side. Villa are still a premiership team with a few players that can be dangerous, and if you've been watching them this season you'll have noticed that they have done what we've done in many games; squandered chances and had nothing to show for their moments of positive or attacking play. According to Squawka they've created only 2 fewer chances than us in the entirety of this season. The way some of you are talking it's like we've just been pasted by pub team. I don't think its down to losing to them...as you say, they are a premier league team. I think its more the fact that in a cup tie, being 2 goals down, we didn't change anything. Its a cup tie...it does't matter what you lose by.....Mahrez was having a shocker...Jeff was quite clearly gassing, Kram had run his socks off....and we still only used 1 sub. Why not take a CB off in the last 10 (god forbid he takes of Morgan!), and throw on an attacker...or get Albrighton on? It just stinks of a guy who had given up, long before the team had.
Jogia Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 I know that Morgan is captain but sometimes I feel that he can't control himself and is out of his depth when playing! Why can't Pearson see that and sub him off? I'm sure you'd agree with me
NewburyFox Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 Of course I watched it. But what about my post makes that relevant question anyway? Because you seem surprised that people aren't happy. Villa were rubbish but we were so depressing to watch, the tactics were awful, the lack of changes was terrible management, the list goes on and on.
walkerleeds Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 Really is tough to defend Pearson after yesterday. The whole team struggled to get going at all and whilst as a fan I felt there was no chance of getting a result after an hour, you'd expect the management to make more than one change surely?! It did seem as if everyone just gave up unfortunately.
Mike Oxlong Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse Sam Bailey gets binned by Syco! http://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/feb/16/sam-bailey-dropped-syco-14-months-x-factor-win
Vardinhio Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 To be honest I'm reasonably happy for us to play negatively at the moment as it will hopefully keep things tight. For all their possession Villa did not know how to get past our 5 at the back. We are going to stay up this season by drawing and winning close games, not hammering teams. The 5 at the back still coould be the future, we just need to hope our attackers play more like at Arsenal than at Villa.
Mike Oxlong Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 I think this is more the future for the back five http://oldermenswellbeing.co.uk/2014/09/04/walking-football-a-great-way-to-play-for-the-over-50s-man-2/ In fact watching them at times it seems more like the present.

We have to change things a bit within the broad formation, game to game to keep freshening it up. There are two teams out there! Every game is different.
RonnieTodger Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 Just watched the highlights, ****ing hell I didn't realise just how bad their 2nd goal was from where I was stood. Schwarzer was obviously abysmal in that goal, but what the **** what was Morgan doing? Sunday League goal at best. I can't justify spending Premier League money (apart from yesterday) on this abject shit anymore. We only play with any real credibility against teams too good for us to beat and then we go back to being utter shit against other poor teams. That game yesterday was between the two worst sides in the league, no doubt about it.

It's the performance as well as the result though. It was painful to watch. Half our players didn't even look bothered.

CloudFox Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 I'm not even going to touch on the negatives, because frankly, it's far too depressing. However, things I have come to the conclusion of from watching the game on telly: Matty and Cambiasso are our best midfield two by far. If playing a 3 it has to be Hammond at the base, but otherwise I think these two work excellently together. Matty was by far our best midfielder yesterday. He, of all our CMs, has adapted the best to the Prem. De Laet needs to come back in if we play a back 5. Upson had a great game. Kramaric looks a serious talent, and when given the chance to shoot, is always going to be a threat.
