Langley Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 On twitter, the hastag #bestfootballerineversaw is trending (it means lots of people are using it at the moment if you're old ) and I was wondering what is the best Leicester player that you never saw and wish you could have? For me it has to be Sep Smith as I would love to see what Don Revie descibed as "he could place the ball within an inch of a man's toe – [and] that when he lobbed the ball to his winger the opposing full back felt the ball graze his hair as he tried to strain his neck that extra inch, like a drowning man trying to lift his head out of the water."
Nalis Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Cue someone asking 'Well how do you know if he's the best player you never saw if you've never seen them play??'
Langley Posted 3 March 2015 Author Posted 3 March 2015 Cue someone asking 'Well how do you know if he's the best player you never saw if you've never seen them play??' Reputation etc. I'm sure that not many of us saw Sir Tom Finney play but he was undoubtably a great player.
Finnegan Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Weller I suppose. Lynex, Lineker, Gibson all contenders. Like said above, can only really judge by reputation. Fortunate enough to have been a kid through the Little and O'Neil success of recent years including being in the Kop for our mugging by the refs vs Atletico.
LCCFox96 Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Wish I was old enough to have seen Lineker playing for Leicester.
Guest MattP Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Feel for you kids who never got to see Ormondroyd or Carey in their prime. I'll go with Rowley though, the old boys rave about him.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Rowley too. Wouldn't you love to have a player now who is practically gauranteed to score?
Danizen Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Rowley too. Wouldn't you love to have a player now who is practically gauranteed to score? And Chandler as well. Both of them had amazing records. Especially for a club like ours.
Webbo Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Who I actually saw playing for us would have to be Lennon. Who played against us, Bergkamp.
Finnegan Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Who I actually saw playing for us would have to be Lennon. Who played against us, Bergkamp. Never, Webster. Never.

Finnegan Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 I'd love to have a copy of the double page spread caricature of the whole squad building the Carling Stand. It was in a programme I had circa 93 but I'd have binned it since unless my dad kept them when he moved. It had sticks as a crane standing at the side, lifting a load of girders dangling from a rope around his conk. Brilliant. That image has always stuck with me.
AKCJ Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Probably between Weller and Banks. Lineker gets an outside mention.
BoyJones Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Arthur Rowley, God rest his soul. Missed out on seeing him play by five years.
Webbo Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Never, Webster. Never. Ah, I get it now. I'll say Shilton as nobody else has mentioned him yet.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Arthur Rowley, for me too., although I may have seen him when I was around four or five.
MooseBreath Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 In my era, Leicester players, probs mancini or matt piper
Izzet is God Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Weller and Worthington for me...clips show just how good they were
Monk Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Mancini. Came at a time when I didn't get to many games and sad I missed that! Him and edgar fookin Davids anyway.
