Good enough for the prem?

Recommended Posts

The season has been a disapointment and ive been moaning about our signings since the start, how may of our squad are of prem standard?

2 players in my opinion... the way weve played all year has been championship style and results show

Just 2... and even then, outside of the bottom 5 clubs, im not even sure they would get a run

Last few games, nobody. Even Mahrez has been crap, though I'll forgive him today because he was played in a brand new position of Pearson's invention. Cambiasso just too slow now. I'm not convinced by Kramaric so far either.

The only players who have had consistently good seasons/spells with us would be IMO:

Wasilewski- Who cant go on forever, mid 30s now and surely never meant to be a central figure in the team, but had to step in and did well.

Huth- Who isnt our player and we will lose

Mahrez- Blows hot and cold, but his hot can be very hot. But has already made murmurs he doesnt fancy the championship and has been attracting interest from elsewhere

Cambiasso- A class act, but again, mid 30s. Hes basically in career twilight.

Huth and Cambiasso are clearly good enough, James and Mahrez would do well in other teams I reckon but have not really shown enough this season.

Some players would thrive in a different team so I wouldnt write anyone off as not good enough at this level. There are some average players playing in other sides but their manager is getting more out of them.

those not including Matty James are deluded, he'll be snapped up quickly and it will be a big loss to us

He's really not that good though is he.

I genuinely believe the current squad is more than capable of playing in the prem. But they have been mismanaged.

Genuinely believe we could have secures safety quite a while ago.

That's what makes it worse.

Only with a different line up and different tactics.

I agree and would add that there are at least four teams in the Premiership that clearly are inferior to City. The fact that we are languishing at the bottom of the table is a result of repeated and chronic mismanagement. Shit communication, selection, tactics, strategy, an utter inability to read the game, to adapt or to recognise and utilise and deploy our strengths. This became glaringly obvious as early as October and has progressively got worse. We all knew that relegation was a very real possibility but the fact we are about to be served championship football again via a wooden spoon would have been incomprehensible last May.

Really? Pretty pathetic at taking corners, rarely hits the target and not creative.

The thing is it's not about which individuals we believe are good enough for the premier league, it's about how those players perform as part of a team that is put together and coached properly.

There are probably dozens of players in this league at the minute who we would all day are not premier league quality, but yet they seem to play week in week out for teams doing better than us. Just look at Hull's defence today; Alex Bruce and Paul McShane. Crystal Palace have got Damien Delaney playing at centre half and have had for some time.

Aside from the very top teams which are full of world class players, the rest of the league is made up of good, solid, committed players. Of course there is better quality than you'd find in the Championship but I honestly believe that the majority of our squad could perform well in this league. Other managers could have got this exact same group to perform better this season I'm sure of it.

Definitely. I'm not sure we've actually had someone performing the function of manager this season. Instead we've got a guy who appears to be very friendly with much of an under-performing first choice eleven, and seems to fall out with a good number of our very viable alternatives. He's not proactive, neither in terms of team selection or transfer policy, not especially tactically aware, has next to no motivational qualities, isn't a touchline manager, gives the same analysis after every game and has established absolutely no trace of cohesion in the team. Oh, and the results are diabolical.

What are the defences of him now? We can't blame Robinson (he's gone, and was gone before January and we still failed to bolster the side), can't say we have a young squad which is learning and will get better (our side in recent weeks has been our oldest since the Adams era), can't say he's turned the finances around (the Trestellar thing, if it turns out to be 'above board', is what salvaged our finances, not wage reductions), can't say he's taken us forward (we're about to find ourselves among the favourites for promotion from the Championship, as we were in November 2011), can't say Pearson is learning (his results suggest anything but progress) and can't say he's been unlucky (we benefited from a poor ref today, just as we suffered from one last week, and our points total is so bad that luck can't come close to being a defining factor).

would be nice to be able to judge him playing 2 v 2 or 3 v 3. so far, we've always seen him being outnumbered and doing a lot of esteban's running. maybe pearson will play MJ and DD together in the middle of the park once we're confirmed relegated

No my friend, you, are deluded...

Average at best, Best of a terribly bad bunch.

They were good enough for the Championship, so do we stick with this squad again, but with a new manager?
