weller54 Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 Sunderland have four games left, lose to us they still can pick up 9 other points. We win two we only pick up 6. 3 away to Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal!!!.... Can't see them getting anymore that ONE point from those.. AT BEST???
Babylon Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 3 away to Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal!!!.... Can't see them getting anymore that ONE point from those.. AT BEST???I'm not bothered what's likely or unlikely, what people think others will get get or not get, who bookies think are favourites to go down or stay up. Focus needs to be on us winning all three, that's what I'm saying.

Gerard Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 I wanted us to go into the Sunderland match at least three points ahead of them. That way even if we lost they would still have to get more points from Arsenal and Chelsea away than we would with QPR at home. Only way that happens now is if we beat Southampton and they don't beat Everton away. We have a little bit of leeway now in that there are realistically five teams fighting to avoid 18th, surely at least one of them hardly picks any points up for the rest of the season?

Newcastle the absolute opposite!

Rasmic123 Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 Sunderland play at Everton next which is very winnable. I think our best chance might be to hope Newcastle continue to collapse. If they do we'll probably be ok. not very winnable, everton just smashed man u 3-0 at home, have won their last 6 at home and havent lost at home since 2014. sunderland are ****ed because they're pretty darn useless and cant score (from open play especially)
weller54 Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 What you swap our fixture with Sunderland 's next Saturday???
KFS Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 What you swap our fixture with Sunderland 's next Saturday??? Albeit us being at home, both Everton and Southampton have real good quality. Our opposition is better, but the atmosphere at home has been really helping.
st albans fox Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 Be nice, but unlikely... Crumbs that would mean 8 wins from the final 9 games!!! Or to have won every game in our 'mini season'. Remember that Chelsea was never meant to be part of these last 8 fixtures! it would be bizarre to achieve that and therefore, so very unlikely to happen.
reynard Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 At the moment if we win all 3 we will stay up. That is all we should be concentrating on. We simply can't depend upon other teams doing us any favours. At the end of the season what you expect to happen rarely does. There is no way newcastle will lose all three games left. They have 2 good chances at home to pick up 6 points. The Sunderland game is looking absolutely key but I fear it will go to the last game.
weller54 Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 Chelsea lift the trophy at home to Sunderland... They're going to want to put on a show!....
Kitchandro Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 not very winnable, everton just smashed man u 3-0 at home, have won their last 6 at home and havent lost at home since 2014. sunderland are ****ed because they're pretty darn useless and cant score (from open play especially) Everton have been in the lower reaches for most of the season and were just beat by Villa. Sunderland have everything to play for and will probably be more up for it than they are.

The Sunderland game is looking absolutely key but I fear it will go to the last game. It's all if's and buts, however, this is a definite scenario. Newcastle lose next week to West Brom, as they have two key defenders out and the crowd on their back, then QPR turn them over the week after (last Premier home game, give the fans a bit of a lift). I also predict Arsenal to beat Hull by 2 clear goals and to only draw with Burnley, then lose at Spurs heavily. Then for us a win and a draw would be enough, as we have superior goal difference. Could be all over by a week on Saturday!! Then again!!!! Still feel the atmosphere at home could be vital, particularly if we go behind.
Finn Claw II Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 3 wins and we are guaranteed safety I would be very very surprised if 2 wins is not enough (40 points is the standard safety benchmark). It is highly unlikely that all of this 5 win all their remaining games. I think 4 points could be enough but with 3 of them potentially earned on the last day of the season that is real pressure.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 Just have to keep taking each game as it comes, and keep our confidence.
TJB-fox Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 Still think we'll manage to cock this one up. I reckon Sunderland will win against Everton and we will draw or lose.
Strokes Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 1 point will be enough, Newcastle won't win another game imo.
Guest Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 Change of manager 3pts. west Ham - anyone can beat West ham now.
Webbo Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 If Newcastle did appoint McLaren, when would he able to take over? There's negotiations with Derby before they'd even be allowed to talk to him, then he's got to negotiate his wages, always assuming he'd go. Best case scenario you couldn't see him on the training ground before Thursday, not long enough to make an instant impression.

I can imagine such an arrangement would be right up Ashley's street.
Guest Bilo Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 Everton have been in the lower reaches for most of the season and were just beat by Villa. Sunderland have everything to play for and will probably be more up for it than they are. They're one of the form sides in the division - only Chelsea, Arsenal and ourselves are higher in the form table. As Rasmic123 says as well, they're a tough side at home too.
ceredigion Posted 3 May 2015 Posted 3 May 2015 If Newcastle do appoint McClaren, it will probably be on a zero-hours contract only needed on match days. And it rains a lot up there so he'll need to take an umbrella with him. Four points should do it for us though. Maybe only 3 if we beat Sunderland away. But if we lose there we will need to win the other two game. If we do stay up, we can go through all this again next April. Wot larks.

Not saying its a definite Everton win but it's hard to see on previous form that sunderland would win that game. Also, a 2-1 win against a side that were wrongly reduced to 10 men this weekend doesn't do anything to convince me that Sunderland's form has drastically changed to the point where they could beat Everton. Either way, we pick up 4 or 5 points from our last 3 and we'll be safe for me
