Babylon Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 Offered his resignation apparently. Source? It's been reported, but also been denied in other reports... anyway this was all before the statement saying he's staying. So no big panic
foxes_rule1978 Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 Confirmed that McCLaren turned them down. A new low for Newcastle fans, you cant even nick the manage from Derby after their season finished. Another failed season for McClaren, Newcastle really are poor at targeting managers... McClaren is coming off a run of 2 wins in 13 games... Is Ashley blind to what makes a good manager
MC Prussian Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 What makes Carver also look amateurish is his way of dealing with players and team performances in the media. You'd never hear Pearson slag off one of his players publicly the way Carver did. He clearly is out of his depth at this level and seems to be a panic solution for Ashley. Wonder how the feedback amongst the fans will be should Newcastle actually be relegated.
MPH Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 They Should try and nick Martin O'Neill for the last three games. Actually forget that. They should stick with Carver.
john ridley Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 Him and the back room staff still another 5 years or so to run on their contracts , left over from the Pardew era .

Would be absolutely shocked if they were sacked they had to be paid for the 5 years, absolutely no chance Ashley would ever do that.

Wonder how the feedback amongst the fans will be should Newcastle actually be relegated. I'd say it was less a panic solution and more of a cheap solution. I'm sure Ashley hoped that Carver could just keep the team higher than 18th so that he wouldn't have to pay the going rate for a Premier League manager for a few months. You get what you pay for...

Leicesterpool Posted 6 May 2015 Posted 6 May 2015 McClaren also turned Derby around. Before him they were looking at a mid table finish each season. McClaren would have been quite decent at Newcastle I think, but there's too much uncertainty there at the moment, its going to be difficult to lure any manager there.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 6 May 2015 Posted 6 May 2015 McClaren also turned Derby around. Before him they were looking at a mid table finish each season. But... They finished 8th. That is mid-table (upper mid-table, but mid-table nonetheless)
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 7 May 2015 Posted 7 May 2015 McClaren also turned Derby around. Before him they were looking at a mid table finish each season. Where did they finish this year? Near as damn it mid-table, after being top merely months ago. Imagine being top so recently and not even making the play-offs, borderline embarrassing.
J.Lisemore Posted 7 May 2015 Posted 7 May 2015 But he did fall over. They were crap. You can't say "x side weren't that bad if only this, this and this happened." They did happen and the reason for it is ineptitude. That Riviere is dogshit, surely there's a kid somewhere up there who could do a better job than him? I remember when Newcastle first signed him from Monaco, the media were laying into this Riviere, and to be honest they've been proven right. He's awful and from memory I don't think he's even scored for Newcastle.

Although to drop from top of the league and not even finish in the play offs is embarrassing (and we know too well considering it probably would have happened to us if Nottingham Forest weren't going for the play offs that day too), McClaren has done a good job at Derby. They got relegated from the Premier League in 07/08 and their league finishes after that were 18th, 14th, 19th, 12th, 10th and then McClaren came in to finish 3rd and 8th.

But we did win the Forest game, so got into the playoffs. Granted after being higher up the league earlier in the season, we should have finished stronger but we still did enough to finish in the playoffs. Derby looked really promising, then completely spiralled into the cesspit. Finishing 8th after being top for so long is awful. I wouldn't really call that progress over finishing 10th or 12th. When it mattered, they didn't perform, hence why they finished mid-table

davieG Posted 7 May 2015 Posted 7 May 2015 Well he could be but just a shit manager as they can be two completely different roles.
