Merging Cultures Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 We don't need squad fillers. We need players who are better than our current players.
The Bear Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 Sako is miles better than Schlupp. He has his occasional frustrating games where nothing comes off for him, but you can't turn your nose up at a player who has scored around 15 goals from the left wing. I'm not sure if he's much better than Knockaert but since he doesn't play that's irrelevant. You can afford to pay him £50k p/w since he's not costing a fee. I'm not sure he'd want that much anyway. I doubt he's on the reported £25k p/w that our local paper reckon he's on. They don't get any reliable info from the club nowadays. Anyway, he's more likely to choose Villa or WBA over you in any case.
dave_the_fox Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 Not better than knockeart but miles better than schlupp!?? Thanks for the info anyways!

Anyway, he's more likely to choose Villa or WBA over you in any case. He's scored 14 and set up 7. All in all not a bad return but the Championship's an easier league to be a winger in than the Prem - Lloyd Dyer was a machine with us last year in the Championship (scored 7, assisted 8 having played 856 minutes less than Sako, or 9.5 matches) - so it's no guarantee that he can step up. Then again Schlupp only managed 1 & 1 last year and most would agree he's reacted well to playing in the Prem. Just leave it to Pearson & co imo.
LCCFox96 Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 For a free transfer and a player who would likely be a rotation player/impact sub from the bench I don't see what the problem is. He's proven himself at championship level and was successful in Ligue 1 with St Etienne before moving to Wolves. At least he has some top flight experience to his name playing in France. He would be a good addition to the squad in my opinion, not exciting but a steady signing.
Bert Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 I am right in thinking that he's never played PL football ?? If that IS so then he's going to be a 'take a chance' signing for any PL outfit. If we're really aiming to progress, (provided we are in the top level next season), then 27 y.o. 'maybes' perhaps isn't the way to go. Especially those that expect £50k + wages ! You mean like Schmeichel, Schlupp, Morgan, Wasilewski, James, Drinkwater, Hammond, King Ulloa, Mahrez, Vardy, Kramaric who hadn't played PL football this season?

To be fair to Sako he was quality when you had a shocking season when you was relegated. I'm 50/50 on him.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 Is he better than Schlupp? No Is he younger than Schlupp? No Do we need him? No 50k a week? Get fvcked.
The Bear Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 Not better than knockeart but miles better than schlupp!?? Thanks for the info anyways! I said I didn't know if he's better than Knockaert. I've not seen enough of him. I don't need to see much of Schlupp to see he's not good enough for that level.
Danno Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 I said I didn't know if he's better than Knockaert. I've not seen enough of him. I don't need to see much of Schlupp to see he's not good enough for that level. How is schlupp not good enough exactly?
NotTheMarketLeader Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 He'd be a decent squad player. You'd just have to see if he'd cut it a level higher. He's made some defences look very silly this year and his confidence level will be sky high. If he is gonna play in the Prem it's now or never but it's got to be at a reasonable price. We don't need squad players we should ONLY buy those who are an improvement on what we have. This guy does not fit into that category.

The Bear Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 How is schlupp not good enough exactly? He looks OK running with the ball at speed but his shooting is appalling.
Danno Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 He looks OK running with the ball at speed but his shooting is appalling.I guess that's why he's our third top scorer then.
The Bear Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 Says more about your team in the PL than him. I wouldn't want him on a free.
rico Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 Says more about your team in the PL than him. I wouldn't want him on a free. But your team wanted Chris Wood,a player who has scored 1 goal all season
Matt Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 But your team wanted Chris Wood,a player who has scored 1 goal all season With alot less opportunities than Schlupp. Listen i'm not slagging Schlupp off or putting him down, I like the lad I think he's improved alot and certainly not been our worst player this season but I will state fact, the fact Schlupp has played 2162 more Premier League minutes the Chris Wood tells more of the story. That said I think Schlupp is the better player and probably would have scored more goals anyway but I dare say Wood would have scored more than 1 if he'd played more than 107 minutes. Shit! Just realised when looking into the stats...Chris Wood is still only 23? I thought he was mid-to late 20's!
LCFCCKEANO Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 Swansea want to pay for Schlupp but you dont want him for free... Good one.
cc_star Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 He doesn't improve anything really. So it's a no from me However, if NP's team wants him... They've been right a hell of a lot more than they've been wrong.
sylofox Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 Depends on the out of contract players we may need to bring in 1 or 2 squad players. But personally I want us to strengthen from the front ie bring in first team players.

Schlupp has been very good for most of the season, and that's coming from me who thought he was so frustrating and would never settle in our first team. For me he's one of the first names in our starting XI now. Couldn't give two shits if Sako would rather go to WBA or Villa. I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole, let alone pay him £50k a week hahahaha! Would rather Schlupp any day of the week..
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 5 May 2015 Posted 5 May 2015 Says more about your team in the PL than him. I wouldn't want him on a free. Let's not be daft. Jeff is frustrating and his decision making at times leaves me splitting logs but he's direct, strong, powerful and shit-off-a-shovel quick. Instinctively he's superb (see his goals against Burnley / QPR - his assist against Arsenal off the top of my head) but his decision making and composure do need work. To say you wouldn't want him on a free however is pretty dim, he's come on in spades this season.
