Bakary Sako

You could pay him 60k a week over 3 years and he still ends up costing you no more than buying him for say £5m last summer and paying him 30k a week.

I don't for a minute think we'd be paying that for him anyway... but you get the idea.

Really hope we're not offering the full 80.  :nono:

Don't get me wrong I'm tending towards wanting him here, but certainly not on that much...

Are people mad on here pearson will not pay 40k never mind 80k a week do people realise who you could get for 80 a week? Not a championship player that's for sure.

He was on £25k per week at Wolves. If he wants more than double that you should tell him to do one.

Oh and he's very left footed. Occasionally connects with one with his right foot that flies in, but most of them end up in the stands.

16 goals from the wing is impressive, do you think he can make the step up?

I'm not sure. If I was pushed I'd say no. He's a bit too inconsistent really. Roughly 1 in every 4 or 5 games he's just abysmal. Nothing he tries works, he overhits crosses and blatts every shot into row z. When that happens he tries too hard and gets a bit greedy as well. That's OK in the Championship it I don't think you can get away with it in the Prem.

He also used to be a defensive liability when tracking back but he's improved a lot in that respect.

When he's good though he's absolutely magic!

Strange that nobody has tried to sign him since Wolves got relegated from the prem.

Strange that Wolves didn't sign him until they got relegated from the prem.

When he was good it was usually against us!

Doesn't sound too convincing to my ears. £80k a week for a player without Premier League experience and his last Ligue 1 campaign almost three years back appears rather greedy to me, even the also rumoured £50k a week plus a sign-on fee are more than just a bit excessive.

I don't think there are a lot players within our current squad that earn as much as he'd do. This could potentially unsettle the dressing room to a certain extent (salary coupled with him not having played in the PL before).

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a more than decent player, but trying to triple your salary just because? I'd rather we sign and pay Sako bonuses based on performances.

Happy for us to pay a bit as we can afford it, but nothing obscene. £80k a week far crosses the line of "obscene". If he wants that he'll be told to **** off by any club with sense.

Different though if you set out the precedent of paying someone that much. I've seen nothing to suggest he's better than Mahrez and as a result Mahrez would probably end up asking for the same.

It's different with Cambiasso as he's blatantly on another level to the squad. Is Bakary Sako? Nah.

So he's Riyad Mahrez then?

The £80k per week figure he is demanding is clearly not true. Not club in their right minds would pay him that and, whilst he is a free agent and can probably get away with demanding a little more on his salary due to the absence of a transfer fee, roughly tripling his reported £25-30k per week wages is excessive.

The wage figure will be the media trying to spin out a transfer story due to them knowing Sako wants to leave Wolves. I'd be amazed if he's asked for any more than £45k-50k per week max because his ability and contract status probably suggests that is his maximum.

Can people stop on about £80k and then using it as a reason to knock the player.

It's BS.

i can see this going through, confirmed in a few days. Far from a bad signing, if it true about other clubs being interested then hes got some potential.

I cant see him demanding that much, taken all out of context.

We know what nigel is like with signings, all the times we have tried to second guess NP and got it wrong. How many times do we try to second guess him untill we learn?

As Geoff said a few days ago on this same thread, we wanted him last season and there must have been some snags to stop the deal going through (we can all assume who may have had a big say in those buffers and said party is no longer in the employ of our club); so I would assume it will probably work out well. I must say whenever I've seen him play, he has got a little bit of that extra quality - okay, he isn't without fault but he is a game changer.

People have cited Bolasie as an excellent comparison and on those grounds, I am all for us signing him.

Albeit cautious, I am hopeful that this summer will set us up well for another excellent campaign of football! :D
