Haydos Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 I've said to keep him, he isn't great enough but we can't go through the season with no back-up. We've done ok with injuries, but if we sign a good LB, who ends up injured. I've said squad. Surely Schlupp + A.N. Other is good enough. Obviously if we don't bring in another left back then we'd keep Konchesky but I would say that's pretty high up on the priorities list.
hackneyfox Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Despite being fantastic for the last 8 games? They've proved they're capable enough. I think we need another CB as well and someone should be signed for the first team, not 'as back up' but I think those two will be firmly in contention for a starting place next season. He's improved over the last few games but still looked like a rabbit in the headlights when Huth went off the other week. For that reason I want him replaced.
bluesbrothers Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Deano needs to stay - seems to be a consumate professional, and has suprised most of us by making the step up comfortably. A more than capable squad player, seems well-liked and seemingly happy to play a bit-part for the good of the club. Exactly what we need to keep in the team.Keeping Cambiasso goes without saying. I reckon he'd do another year if we stay up, so get those pens inked, Top and Vichai!Konch needs replacing as a first-choice left back, but I'd never object to him staying as a squad player, especially since, crazy as it is to think, he's now one of our longest-serving players. We seem to forget that he had a brilliant start to the season before petering out. When he plays well, he's great, when he plays badly he's awful. He's a grey-haired Schlupp with less pace, but his early season performances and quality against Villa (when he scored the winner and kept them in his back pocket all day) tells me he's worth keeping if, like Deano, he's willing to take a reduced role. Given our move to 3-5-2, I get the feeling he already is. New left back, Konch second choice, keep Schlupp at left-wing and we're set down that side. Was, again, silly question. In, out, In, out, you shake the pen about, you sign Was a new contract and he stays with us, for the rest of his career. Ooooh, the Wasilewski... etc. The rest should probably go. Knocky isn't getting a sniff and looks set to join Standard Liege anyway, Upson failed to get up to pace and will be in demand for a lot of Championship sides, Logan and Smith are never going to get a sniff unless Hamer leaves too, Bakayogo was pants when he did play and then was out injured for god-knows how long (still is?).That just leaves GTF. I love you Gary, and seeing you pottering about on the field at Stamford Bridge did give me a giggle back in August, but with our forwards now firing and likely to be joined by another face in the summer, you're not going to get a look-in unless we have a cup run. Go and get the gametime you deserve - I'm sure Huddersfield for example would love you back. Maybe if you're feeling brave you could head to the seaside and try and help Blackpool turn it around.
hackneyfox Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Surely Schlupp + A.N. Other is good enough. Obviously if we don't bring in another left back then we'd keep Konchesky but I would say that's pretty high up on the priorities list. Something would be badly wrong if he's in the squad next season. Most thought he needed replacing before this season kicked off and he's done nothing to make me change my mind. Surely Schlupp + A.N. ramadaone Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Think the stumbling block will be the length of contract rather than the money Was , Cam and Hammond will all probably want 2 year deals and I'm not sure we will go with that Someone like Bournemouth might give them a 2 year deal on less money which might turn their heads ?
MC Prussian Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Konchesky may stay as a backup, but he doesn't strike me as a first-choice option in the months and years to come at all. He's soon to be 34 years old, ffs. In this league, you need technically gifted left-backs who can also keep up with attacking wingers - and Paul's just not the fastest anymore. I'd also keep Hammond as a backup and Cambiasso and Wasilewski, as well. Will we actually see the day of Conrad Logan being released? It'd certainly feel somewhat bizarre. As for Gary Taylor-Fletcher, long may he continue lighting up defenses in the Championship and below. Goodbye and good luck. Knockaert is on his way out according to latest reports in the French press. Bakayogo is likely to leave, I can't see him staying at all. I'm still undecided on Upson, as he hasn't really had the chance of making an impact after coming back from his lengthy injury. Smith and Moore could be loaned out.
General Smuts Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Does Paul Gallagher still play for us? EDIT: You can add a 'Why' in front of that question if he does,
MC Prussian Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Does Paul Gallagher still play for us? EDIT: You can add a 'Why' in front of that question if he does, His ghost is. On a serious note, he could achieve promotion to the Championship with Preston. Provided they win the playoff final against Sheffield United or Swindon first. I guess the North End would take him in a heartbeat.
chris_lcfc_85 Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Surprised how many people would keep Hammond. Granted he's done ok but that's it, we need to be getting FAR better than him. He's comfortably the least talented CM we have but does do the 'anchor' role reasonably well. However, we do need much better as said above
Spudulike Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Didn't Was want to leave earlier in the season Did he ?? Was this during the return to Anderlecht rumour

Just because he hasn't been as bad as people thought, doesn't mean he deserves to be kept on. If we stay up it'd be a waste of a year's wages to give him an extension.
LCFC_Oak Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 Esteban can last 2 more seasons, IF we sign a quality box to box runner to play along side him. His vision and passing would make him ideally suited to the Gerrard 'Quarterback' role.

I'm pretty certain our record with in the team is very good this season. Was key in our good form at the very start of the season. Also for a long time, and maybe still, we had never lost a game when he came off the bench or something like that. Really good squad player, simply no reason to get rid of him if he's happy in this role.
Scotch Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 I like Hammond. He has never let us down and is a good wee player. Having said that, I would move him on in the summer. He's obviously not first choice in CM (prob not second either) and I reckon we will be looking to sign another high quality CM in the summer which would push him even further down the pecking order. If he is struggling for a game now, he has no chance if we strenghen even further so I think it would be best for him if we found him a club where he can play a part (Burnley spring to mind) If he did stay though,I wouldn't be too dissapointed, as I've mentioned, I am a fan of his.
Heskey2011 Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 Keep Waz and Konch, and obviously cambiasso, I see no reason why cambiasso can't play for another few years at this level, build a team around him like pirlo has at juve. We should be looking for players who can do his running and tackling. For me he's essential for us to remain in the prem and really the only bit of class we have in our team.

cc_star Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 I don't know enough about Bournemouth but I've heard a couple of people reference that they pay high wages? Rich Russian 'businessman' who's never spoken to the press Rich through petrochemicals etc... Basically, Abramovich
kingcarr21 Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 Konch surely has to go or be 3rd choice at best. We desperately need another LWB to give Schluup some competition. Get rid of Simpson aswel. Not good enough. If Hammond is happy in his bit part role i wouldnt moan at him getting another year contract. He hasnt put a foot wrong when called upon. Does the basics very well. If we could have Huth Was and Morgan for next season i would be very happy. Clearly Morgan is a premier league defender when he doesnt have to worry about his partner. 3 CB (one being the experienced Huth) allows Morgan to focus on his own performance. All 3 have been solid since Huth came to the club. It will be interesting to see if huth would be tempted to join us permanantely. I sure hope so. If not then we will need to find a CB of a similar calibre
Lambert09 Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 We will be struggling for many years to come if we think players like Hammond are good enough. Even off the bench we can get far superior players

tokyo_fox Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 Doesn't anyone think that Conrad Logan will somehow be given another one year deal?!!
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 Got a horrible feeling we might lose Esteban this summer. He loves it here and and his age the next club will be his last, so I think he might go somewhere for yet another challenge to put on his cv. Either that or a decent European club will come in for him because they have seen he can still play at the top level. So hope I am wrong.

He knows we practically worship him, he'll be another year older and might not be used in the same way he is here. Nige lets him do his thing, pass on advice to team mates, other managers might not appreciate that. I wouldn't begrudge it if he felt his future lay elsewhere, but it'd be a risk on his part. Looking at his past clubs, he's also very loyal.
Rob1742 Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 Who do we think is staying and who is on their way? Paul Konchesky Matthew Upson Dean Hammond Esteban Cambiasso Zoumana Bakayogo Gary Taylor-Fletcher Anthony Knockaert Conrad Logan Marcin Wasilewski Adam Smith I think we'll see Esteban and Marcin stay on one year deals and the rest will be on their way. Adam has another year on his contract
