willie-bell-in-rothley Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 I think it was Ian Walker but cant be sure, any ideas ?
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 From memory Ian Walker got a pre tournament friendly - possibly before Euro 2004?
cc_star Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 I think it was Ian Walker but cant be sure, any ideas ? Ian Walker's last England appearance was as a sub in a friendly Vs Iceland in 2004 http://www.sporting-heroes.net/football/england/ian-walker-7176/english-caps-1996-04_a12390/ Steve Guppy's was 1999 Emile Heskey signed for Liverpool in 2000
Christoph Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 That's IF Vardy even gets capped. Wouldn't surprise me if they don't play him tbh.
cc_star Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 That's IF Vardy even gets capped. Wouldn't surprise me if they don't play him tbh. Poor management if they don't, we know what Rooney & Welbeck can do
Ross-Kemp Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 Ian Walker in 2004. Last outfield player was Heskey in 2000.
Bryn Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 Gary Lineker the previous before Guppy if my thinking is right? We don't get a lot of England caps do we?
Stevosevic Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 Gary Lineker the previous before Guppy if my thinking is right? We don't get a lot of England caps do we? We are usually shit
shailen Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 That's IF Vardy even gets capped. Wouldn't surprise me if they don't play him tbh. Surely they will give him a go in a friendly. Tbh, the pecking order is still: Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck, Kane, Berahino, Austin, Ings and then probably Vardy. Realistically he is only included because some of that list is at the U21 tournament. But still, if he gets a chance and takes it he could be a part of the next few squads which would be an amazing achievement. Not to mention that he gives something the other forwards don't give and I cannot help but to think him and Rooney would be such a good combination.
Guest bss9401 Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 I think that Vardy will get some minutes. We all know that he is well down the pecking order but this is his chance. I think he suits Hodgson's style and may surprise a few people with his pace and energy.
Suffolk exile Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 That's IF Vardy even gets capped. Wouldn't surprise me if they don't play him tbh. I really hope that he does. In any case it is just another incredible chapter in what has happened since April! Who could have imagined in December we would be safe with a game to spare and Vardy in the England squad! Brilliant!
IsItMuzzy Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 Surely Nugent? Got his cap whilst playing for Preston(?) not us Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
iancognito Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 Didn't Junior Lewis get one? No he got two things - much shitter every week and a big, fat contract
Vicki Vixen Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 No he got two things - much shitter every week and a big, fat contract If Peter Taylor had managed England as caretaker for a couple more games, I'm sure Junior Lewis would've been selected. Listen to him gushing about him here http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11712/2206098/taylor-completes-lewis-signing.
dayday Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 When Heskey played for England v Argentina in 2000,he was absolutely brilliant, the Argies were frit to death of him
LCCFox96 Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 The fact no Leicester player has played for England in over a decade really does make Vardy's call up the icing on the cake to a surreal first season back in the top flight.
fleckneymike Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 Will Vardy be the lowest scoring top flight striker to every play for England?
Wymsey Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 Will Vardy be the lowest scoring top flight striker to every play for England? Think Michael Ricketts wins this.
ScouseFox Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 Will Vardy be the lowest scoring top flight striker to every play for England?Didn't welbeck go about a year and a half scoring just one goal and still made every England squad? That was for a team at the top of the league too.But it was ok cos he "brought more than goals", which apparently Vardy doesn't... edit oh wait do you mean all time scoring record? does Walcott count considering he'd never played a game when Sven took him the euros
