Matt Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Always amazes me how people come by this kind of knowledge. Common sense? You've got 1st/3rd choice (Unlikely they'll play together, unlikely they'll start together anyway) - Ulloa/Kramaric (Granted Kramaric hasn't had a huge role this season but I expect him to next year.) With Vardy (2nd) 4th - Nugent 5th - Wood. (Who I wouldn't be surprised to see go) If someone else comes in, this Japanese lad, for relatively big money we won't be signing him for the bench, so you expect him get in before Nugent at the very least.

I don't think it'd be overly surprising to see us let Wood go and stick with the four we've got. Might not of course but we aren't lacking quality up front IMO so there's no desperate need to add to our strike force. Might do, might not.

I agree, i'm not sure there is any rush to bolster our forward line. I wouldn't say no to bolstering it though and the fact we're being linked with strikers (If the rumours and links are true) would mean Nugent is probably gonna drop down to 5th choice.
General Smuts Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Neither can Vardy, but most people can recognise they bring much more to the side than goals. Vardy has 9 assists so yes he does bring more to the side.

I'd be quite happy to keep our four FW's for another season then revaluate our FW options this time next year. We need to concentrate on getting Huth and maybe one more CB. We also need some real quality in central midfield.
LAprice_ Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 He's versatile, experienced and hard-working. He's also one of the best finishers at the club. Many may disagree with that but of all the strikers, him and Kramaric look the most capable of creating a goal out of nothing. (Yes, I know Vardy did against West Brom as well) Money talks AND I would only get rid of him if we receive a substantial offer and as that's unlikely, I'm more than happy to keep him.
Oxfordfox83 Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Is it fair to suggest that a poster's IQ can be instantly gauged by his/her ability to see what Nugent brings to the team? Whatever happens to the squad, I expect Nugent to feature in 20 games next season and make valuable contributions which are invisible to people who don't understand football. If he leaves, best of luck to him, but we'd be mad to force out a player of his quality who, if benched, will slot into our team at will.

We may disagree with the proposal but deal with the idea and not the person. In defence of the OP our incredible run has been achieved largely without Nugent, his valuable contributions ammased us less points than we accrued during his absence which might indicate they weren't as valuable as those who understand football would have us believe.
Bert Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Keep him. He's a valuable member of the squad. We play well whenever he's involved and he's good for team morale.
dmayne7 Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Definitely keep him but if the opportunity to sign a better player in his mould presents itself, I'd look at it. I think of the 4 main forwards, he's the only one we're likely to contemplate replacing or finding a better option.

Majorchail Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 No mate..not fair assessment. It is lack of football knowledge and not IQ. Anyway i would have Nugent staying another season as backup.
Master Fox Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Terrible at missing chances. He's a great team player, but if somehow can improve his finishing I'd say keep him. I would think Nige probably has a replacement lined up. Even in the Championship he missed chances in pretty much every game. Nugent will be off.
gurru991 Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 He is definitely valuable for one more year, more as a squad player than the go to guy though.
Claridge Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Do you not think he is a good character to have around? What like a Jester Bloody expensive one at that. He is a terrible finisher at the highest level (better from 30 yds than 3). Sentiment can't happen in the summer if we are to progress

We play a front three, which nugent can sit in the hole or play out wide quite effectively. Don't underestimate his importance, I'm sure if injury free, he will play a big part for us next season.

Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Held us back? He has contributed enormously over his time with us with goals, assists and a great work ethic, seems to be a popular member of the squad who frequently gets a lot of unfair criticism. I would keep him, not as a starter but a good squad player who can come in and make a positive contribution when needed.
Guest Col city fan Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 I'd keep Nugent for two reasons. Firstly, the team started looking better when he came back into it. We'd gone for ages playing Ulloa on his own up top and it wasn't working. When Nugent came in and started to sniff around the big man, we looked better. Being a striker isn't only about goals. Hasn't Vardy only got 5 all season? It's also about linking up play, making runs to free up space for other players and general work rate. Secondly, I imagine he's a good bloke to have around at the club. A good laff I suspect and with experience. I'd keep him. I wouldn't always play him.
Bettsj2 Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Nuge is an effective player for a certain style of play and there's little doubt we played better this year with him in the team. That aside, when we confirm our next Premier league squad, I very much hope that we've improved the overall quality significantly enough that Nugent doesnt have a place. That's not me saying he's shit or not recognising what he brings, just being realistic that if we are to progress as a Premier League outfit, he's the sort of player we do need to improve upon.
biggs Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 He's not going to get into every match but his contribution helped turn us around this year. He's a asset on and off the field. Keep him

To be fair to Nugent just like Wasilewski they have looked better in the prem than the championship, What people forget is team spirit can have a big bearing on what a club does. You only look at the expensive built side of QPR that bar Austin and Barton and the ageing defence the rest couldn't give to ****s. I watched the highlights of the Preston v Swindon game ,our ex player Simon Grayson who has achieved promotion with 4 teams now ,said his current side was the best ever for team spirit including Leeds, that says a lot There will be a lot of changes next season, and that will include enforced ones,so just be careful what you wish for, start pissing about with the squad like Peter Taylor did then you are asking for trouble.
