katieakita Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Sunderland and Newcastle have flirted down the bottom for to long, having a big ground doesn't guarantee anything, McClaren took Derby to 8th in a 2 horse race.last season and they both have a problem with fans who believe they are too big to go down rather than being to shite to stay up.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 It's still too early to call really but Stoke won't be in a relegation battle. I'd love Sunderland, Villa and Newcastle all to go down but can't see it happening unfortunately. If I was forced to pick a three they'd be Norwich, Bournemouth and Sunderland.
KFS Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 20 points by the end of October and I'll believe we're 100% staying up.
Guest Col city fan Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Yeah can't argue with that. Thought Deeney would score more but he's involved in most of their goals still. They will inevitably hit a bad patch but they are definitely better than 4 or 5 teams down there. Looking forward to playing them A strike force of Deeney and Ighalo will give plenty of defences a good game. Deeney is a good player imo. You're right..its not only about goals with him, he must be difficult to mark which will free up space for other players.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 I'd love Newcastle to go down so they're hidden away on the lower league coverage so the rest of us don't have to put up with bleating about how "their fans deserve better" just because they get reasonable numbers through the turnstiles, same with Sunderland.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Villa, Sunderland & Newcastle have all been lucky to avoid relegation in recent seasons. You can only dodge the bullet for so long before you get hit.
LanguedocFox Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 I think Sunderland will improve as long as Advocaat sticks around, although his comments on MoTD (last week and this) both implied "if they carry on like this, I'm off". Newcastle are dire and don't look like they will get any better, and unless they pull something out of the hat, I think Ashley will fire McClaren by the end of November, or even earlier. An interesting thought: if either Sunderland or Newcastle fire their manager, will Nigel Pearson get the call?
kingfox Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Been more impressed with Watford defensively, three clean sheets so far. Thought their downfall would be the defence, but so far they haven't looked too bad, Nyom in particular looks a good signing.
cc_star Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Anyone who doesn't think we're in a relegation battle is deluded. We've not really played anyone yet and not come up against the kind of class that others have. Our defence is woeful, yes there's loads of time to improve, but there's loads of time for teams to work us out better too, and cope with our counterattack s better than they have so far Teams who concede with the ease we do will never be too far from the bottom 3 when all is said and done. Now Newcastle & Sunderland are obviously woeful, but they have been there so many times and survived it's unbelievable. Everyone else from Bournemouth to Watford and Norwich to Villa including us seems much of a muchness. We're just playing at superhuman performance levels at the moment, can that really go on all season? What do we have in our locker if it doesn't This isn't to decry our unbeaten start, it's been phenomenal, absolutely phenomenal Up the city! PS. I think we should look to go 352, get Wasyl back there too, it still leaves 3 in the middle which incident ly shouldn't include Inler until he's earned his place through performance levels rather than 'name' alone

It will depend who they bring in as replacements. I think it will be between those 3 and the promoted teams. At the moment they are all looking good but it is a long tough season.
Guest Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Far too early to say Sunderland and Newcastle for the drop. A team can be 7 points adrift very late in the season and still stay up.

Happy Fox Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Sunderland look certainty for the drop. Losing at Bournemouth, Norwich etc doesn't bode well for them; they cannot score goals and they concede far too many. Newcastle have a piss poor manager which premier league team would Appoint a manager whose team finished 8th in the championship not too many.

I can see him at Newcastle in particular and based on the way his City side were playing at the end of the season, the on-field discipline and work ethic of the players they should be keen to take him. I couldn't believe the poor body language yesterday, I thought a new manager and new season would improve that, they don't work for each other, track back or cover, don't they show them match footage to learn from their mistakes anymore?
Tuna Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Sunderland and Newcastle have been in terminal decline for years.
MC Prussian Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Six games into a new season is hardly a time to speculate about relegation candidates already. I know we're doing very well at the moment, but let's please count the chickens comes May.

Great reflexes again yesterday.
walkerleeds Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Sunderland will have at least two managers before the end of the season so too early to judge them
Kitchandro Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Six games into a new season is hardly a time to speculate about relegation candidates already. I know we're doing very well at the moment, but let's please count the chickens comes May. The key word is 'speculate'. It's the perfect time to do that. You can't speculate in May, that's cheating. I think it's pretty obvious that certain teams will be down there. We shouldn't be one of them. The only thing that would see us down there, as with last season, is poor management. We've got more than enough to finish midtable. Our defensive issues are all of our own making and could be easily avoided by taking our full backs out of the equation and playing 3 centre backs. It is down the wings where most of our problems are caused because De Laet and Schlupp are quite clearly not good enough defensively. Clearly scoring goals is a massive plus on the opposite end of the spectrum and that' something that's done us good so far - there's no reason we should stop being good at that. We have weaknesses at the moment but so do most teams - there is no way there are 15 or so sides better or even as good as us.
big stodge Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Both teams seem to lack self belief, the sort of belief that serves us so well at the moment. Having said that, Blunderland's defence looks woeful.
lgfualol Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Have a horrible feeling every time a thread like this starts, we'll jinx something. Wont be talking about others getting relegated until we hit 40 points
Amin Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Far too early to say Sunderland and Newcastle for the drop. A team can be 7 points adrift very late in the season and still stay up. Impossible.
