The French national anthem will be played before all Premier League matches this weekend.

Personally I think a minutes silence would be fine, but probably not observed.

Ridiculous. Wembley was enough, there doesn't need to be anything else.

As sad as it may be there has been lots of terrorist activity around the world, including recently a russian plane where more people died than in Paris. I don't get the x is worthy and y isn't.

I just mentioned this in the Paris shooting thread. Think it's too far imo. Wembley was our show of unity and respect from football. Don't see this as necessary.

Don't get it. As I said in the other thread, nobody will sing it anyway, it's too fast unless you can speak French.

One of my favourite National Anthems though.

Utterly ridiculous. In fact it's made me cross how people are jumping on the band wagon.

The Premier League have done this to gain respect rather than to show respect. Which is wrong.

It's a bit much. They're obviously trying to use it as a symbol of unity but I think that a minutes silence and a black armband would be enough.

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this, as somehow couldn't imagine if a disaster similar to this happened in England they wouldn't be playing our national anthem there.

I cant remember the American national anthem after 9/11 being played?! bit over the top I think, although Newcastle do have a lot of French players....

I can't remember ours after 7/7...

It seems like because of the international friendly on Tuesday, with the anthem playing at that, people have jumped on this bandwagon of thinking playing a national anthem is a show of solidarity and respect. I'm pretty sure had we not played France on Tuesday this wouldn't have entered anybody's head.

I didn't understand the logic of turning the French national anthem into a karaoke on Tuesday either. As opposing fans, show respect by remaining silent and clapping it at the end. There is even less logic of playing it this weekend. As people have said, this smacks of the BPL jumping on the bandwagon to get noticed.

I do get your point, but France is our neighbour and very culturally similar to us. We also have a millennium of history with them. So you can understand why more attention is given to the Paris atrocities than other ones in this country.

Just buttering them up in case they can't host the euros.

I'm part French and I really can't...  that history between us, well we've spent a rather large chunk of it actually trying to kill each other. It's not like we're best buddies is it.

As a nation we've turned into professional grief junkies, I blame the idiots who cried about Diana and scousers in general.

I preferred it when we had and were known for our "stiff upper lip"

For those that don't know what it means

One who has a stiff upper lip displays fortitude in the face of adversity, or exercises great self-restraint in the expression of emotion.
