AKCJ Posted 14 December 2015 Posted 14 December 2015 I like how the next 4 games will supposedly prove that we're in a false position yet in their last league game Chelsea lost to Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge, Everton drew against Norwich, Liverpool needed a 97th minute equaliser against West Brom at Anfield and Man City needed a 94th minute winner against Swansea at the Etihad.
Captain... Posted 14 December 2015 Posted 14 December 2015 See that's why it makes me laugh when people keep saying we've not played the big boys yet. Points are points. It doesn't matter if Man City beat a "big" club if they lose to a shit one. Spurs just lost at home to a ****ing Newcastle side we hammered. If Man City beat us, what does it matter if they lose to two crap teams we beat? We could win the league without ever beating the "top four" if they keep throwing points away. Whilst I don't disagree, it is just an angle, and it gives more context to our great story, the papers saying we haven't beaten any of the big boys yet just means that when we do they can talk about that monkey being off our back, or now we have nailed our credentials to the mast, or whatever cliché they want. They can only say these things though, because it is true, we have only played half of the "big 4"/"big 6" all at home, and we have won none of those games. There is no point getting worked up over it, it is just an angle and one that works with the underdog vibe we are trying to create, I would be very happy for everyone to think we are in a false position, and to continue to underestimate us until the end of the season, and that includes the press.
Dan Posted 14 December 2015 Posted 14 December 2015 The thing is if we beat Chelsea tonight and then beat Everton, Liverpool and Man City we'll read that we're lucky to play them when they're going through a bad patch. Truth is, the majority of teams in the PL are dog shit right now. We have a system that goes against the majority and that's why we seem to be more effective. Let's hope we can continue this before the bigger clubs figure out why they have been left behind. I seem to be thinking in sync with you these days.

I can guess that when/if we beat any of them the excuses of why we managed to beat them will start. Injuries, refs, lucky etc As you say they have to find an angle to fill their pages.

I hope they do say that, I want them to say that, I am getting nervous about all the nice things I'm reading, I would rather read that "Mahrez is over-rated and doesn't do any defensive work", "Vardy is a one-trick pony, pace and nothing else" and "The rest of our team are bang average and we rely on 2 players who will be gone in January anyway." I don't need the press to tell me how good this team is, and more importantly I don't want them telling anyone else, lucky Leicester, false position, music to my ears.
ithuriel Posted 14 December 2015 Posted 14 December 2015 Who cares, even if we won the title pundits and other fans would say it was a fluke or what ever excuses make them feel better. I'm just glad we have had a good season thus far and we are near to guaranteeing a third season back in the Prem with money to spend.

I'm just glad we have had a good season thus far and we are near to guaranteeing a third season back in the Prem with money to spend. I might be reading this wrong, so here are my premature apologies, but that looks frightfully unambitious to me. Obviously we could not come to expect a season like this, especially after barely escaping relegation last season. But this league is a competition to win, why settle for midtable mediocrity when we're in the position we're in? Is it a goal in itself to "spend money"? Just so we could, maybe, challenge for a top half or European spot in the future? We're in the splendid position to compete now, so now is when we have to capitalise on it and not just accept Premier League survival.
ithuriel Posted 14 December 2015 Posted 14 December 2015 It would be an event of major proportions if we were to win the title and I'd be over the moon but I'm not getting ahead or myself and am keeping my feet firmly planted so if we do not I will not be disappointed, even if we were to end up with a place in the Champions or Europa league :xmastongue: I've been a fan of Leicester and know we never do things the easy way, with style but never easy.
MC Prussian Posted 14 December 2015 Posted 14 December 2015 Well, if Alan Shearer claims you're doomed as a team, you better listen up: http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/35088746 Farewell to the Villa? Still, I wouldn't count my chickens yet...

If a club like us was in the position we find ourselves in, what would you be saying as an outsider looking in? Let's just enjoy this for what it is at the moment - getting your hopes up is just asking to be disapointed. It's not inconceivable that we could end up finishing 7th or 8th and I know a lot of our fans would be disapointed with the ulitmate outcome given our position - but we've got to be careful, because if that did happen and we carried our disappointment over to the following season we then might be looking at a very different situation next year?
Donut Posted 14 December 2015 Posted 14 December 2015 I think Aston Villa would have to be the biggest team to ever drop out of the Premier League. Won all the domestic trophies and a european cup, and an ever present in the Premier League.

weller54 Posted 15 December 2015 Posted 15 December 2015 Yeah but florist have 2 European cups Queen Victoria was on the throne then wasn't she?
Phube Posted 15 December 2015 Posted 15 December 2015 9 pts clear of Tottenham in 5th !!!!!! But... but Spurs are THE form team!?!?
GeorgeTheFox Posted 15 December 2015 Posted 15 December 2015 The last time Eden Hazard scored in the premier league, Caitlynn Jenner was a man
Finnegan Posted 15 December 2015 Posted 15 December 2015 Hazard off in January? Right tantrum last night. Nothing wrong with him at all just bottled it

That's just a pessimists' excuse. It's not inconceivable to finish outside the top 6, nor is it inconceivable that we finish first at the rate we're going. I do not see why we have to be 'careful'. Yesterday's win was another brilliant example of how the belief, the excitement and, yes, the dream is keeping the place rocking and carrying our team over the line. It could so easily have been a draw, or had it been 2014 we would likely have lost that game 2-3, but instead we won and the euphoria continues. The players and management have to do their best to stay grounded and focused, but we as fans shouldn't be 'careful' of our team's success. Taking my rose-tinted glasses off, I would absolutely advise the club to push on in January because extraordinary circumstances have given us a very rare chance to achieve something at the highest level. Arsenal and Man City will be huge favourites to win the title given their relative wealth and status, but all the other teams have shown frailty while we keep pulling away. A Champions League spot is a very, very real opportunity at the very least and we have to capitalize on it. It's not like we're 3 points of fifth challenging for Europe, you know? We're bloody leading the pack with a 9 point cushion to our closest CL challengers!
