americanfox Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 At this stage of the season it really doesn't matter who we play it's all about pressure, for both teams. I agree with this -- ultimately, everyone plays everyone, so any "sequencing effects" would presumably balance out in the bigger picture. At this point, it's about us. We are in the driver's seat with a decent cushion (compared to, say, the Liverpool situation where Man City actually won their game in hand and were thus only behind by 3), so if we manage on our end (as @@AKCJ consistently has said), it's ours.
HighPeakFox Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 You guys really do know how to argue over absolutely nothing
americanfox Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 It's like global warming. It only still exists cos people carry on about it
mozartfox Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Forget Spuds and keeping a focus on our performances and results. We can afford one slip-up, they cannot if it coincides with us winning our game. We cannot effect their results so let's enjoy this break from stress. Keep the faith.
Matt Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 I still think Spurs have had a much easier arrangement of PL fixtures than us so far this year. It seems they get 2 or 3 mediocre to crap teams in a row, then a big team, then mediocre again, etc, etc. For example - From January onwards, if you scratch our win over them out - They played Sunderland, then Crystal Palace (both teams in dire form at that time), then Norwich and Watford, then their first "big game" in ages was against a depleted, shell shocked Man City (who had just come off the back of a 3-1 drubbing from us) in which they were lucky to take all 3 points, needing a penalty and a late winner...Then, Swansea at White Hart lane, before finally playing a decent club in good form (West Ham) and losing, then drawing with 10 man Arsenal. Then they play Villa and Bournemouth back to back FFS!!! Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea, Stoke will be their turn to experience back to back "big" games, just like we had in November, December and February. We need to keep winning our games of course. But Spurs have had a very favourable arrangement of fixtures in the league for the most part and I don't think it will stand them in good stead, ultimately. Come off it. You sound like one of those people who claimed 'Leicester hadn't played any top teams yet'. We all play the same teams, the same amount of times.
SpinneyHillRanger Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 I think the one game where spurs play before us, is probably their most difficult game on paper... Away at Anfield. So hopefully Liverpool take 3 points there, and when we kick off the next day the lads will be calm knowing a win will just pile more pressure on. All the following games we play first, so they can brew knowing all pressure is on them to close the gap.
suffolk fox Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 We are five points clear and in the box seat. All we have to do is match Spurs results. They have three tough games coming up even if they do get a result at Liverpool they would still be two points behind us. It really is ours to lose.
Kendal Fox Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Don't get into fixture list arguments, everyone plays the same teams, the same games, you'll get favourable and non-favourable runs throughout the season. They do, just like we've had to. But the point is that it's the way the fixtures are arranged. Of course it's not Spurs fault that they are playing a lot of crap teams in a row! But, when they have had tougher games - Chelsea, Us, West Ham and Arsenal, they fell short and didn't have the resilience and fight that a tougher schedule of PL games might have instilled in them. Like I said, I don't think it will stand them in good stead for when they actually play more than one "big game" in a row, which is coming up.
Kendal Fox Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Come off it. You sound like one of those people who claimed 'Leicester hadn't played any top teams yet'. We all play the same teams, the same amount of times. Not at all. I said it's not their fault. But when have Spurs had an arrangement of fixtures like we had going back to December?? - We had Chelsea, Everton (away) Liverpool (away) then Man City, all back to back. Fast forward 3 or 4 weeks then Stoke, Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal back to back?? My point is that their tough run (this year) is coming up and I don't expect them to be as well prepared for it as we were.
Stevosevic Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Sterling out for a month so a winger will be called up as a replacement for England. A slim chance of it being Albrighton?
Harry - LCFC Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Sterling out for a month so a winger will be called up as a replacement for England. A slim chance of it being Albrighton? Hasn't played as well recently. Doubt he'll get picked.
melrose Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Glad of the international break to be honest Will enjoy cheering England without biting my nails & having heart palpitations
Jimothy Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Sterling out for a month so a winger will be called up as a replacement for England. A slim chance of it being Albrighton? It'll be Antonio if anyone.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 It'll be Antonio if anyone. He would deserve it too though
Jimothy Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 He would deserve it too though Yeah he's in very good form at the minute, and that's not just the goals. Can consider himself unlucky not to have been selected when Walcott was.
ScouseFox Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 antonio or lennon probs. like for like replacing sterling too. albrighton is a completely diff player.
smudger63 Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 palace are worse based on the table, based on the form table and based on basically everything. we had the easier game on paper. in fact we've beaten palace home and away this season and not beaten bournemouth in either game. not really sure what your argument is here. Bournemouth are a lot better than palace at the moment. Easier game on paper being the operative phrase. Before a ball was kicked this weekend, i would still have rather being playing at home to Bournemouth, than away at Palace. When Palace get it together again, and they will soon enough, now they have got their better players back, they can be a very dangerous team to play. Bournemouth, knowing that they have now got themselves safe, and with nothing to fight for, were the perfect team to be playing a home game against, in my opinion. Ultimately who cares, we done what we had to do, so did they, we now move on to the next one.

I much prefer Bournemouth at home with nothing to play for .. yes we didn't beat them but it wasn't through lack of chances

foxes_rule1978 Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Southampton have nothing to play for and we're at home. Is that going to be an easy game? Southampton have a little more quality than Bournemouth
HighPeakFox Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Southampton have a little more quality than Bournemouth And plenty to play for
Webbo Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Southampton have a little more quality than Bournemouth Didn't Bournemouth beat Southampton a few weeks ago?
foxes_rule1978 Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Didn't Bournemouth beat Southampton a few weeks ago? So that proves Bournemouth have more quality you got to be kidding right... haha
AYLESBURY FOX 1961 Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Southampton are 4 points off a champions league spot - dont tell me they have nothing to play for!
foxes_rule1978 Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Southampton are 4 points off a champions league spot - dont tell me they have nothing to play for! Exactly comparing the two is laughable
