I took the piss when Col was wrong about Pearson four years in a row and when he thought Lee Cattermole was better than Esteban Cambiasso, let him have his fun.

Only kiddin ya Mark. You were right about Pearson, which I did praise you for I recollect?

And ttfn's was one of the best posts I've ever read on here.

Need to let him go now though. We've moved on.

Strange thing to say.

Eh?

Why do you think it's a strange thing to say? Can you not see the extra potential issues that arise from having lots of foreign players?

These guys moved away from their countries, their homes, their family and friends to play in the premier league, in a country they don't know, with a language they might not know too well.

Many people who've moved to another country to work will tell you what an isolating and miserable existence it can be if you're on your own. More so if things aren't going well or as expected in the job you moved to. It's natural for people to want to run for the hills and head home, or to find it all a struggle. With UK lads, most aren't going to be too far from home, still surrounded by friends and family. It can just make things all a bit easier to get on with things.

Then of course, you have the issues relating to them not knowing the lower leagues here. Many of the guys Newcastle had last time would've had experience of the lower leagues in this country, even if it was just a loan move at some point. So they'd have know what's coming... they'll know it's going to be two games a week and a hell of a grind. Even if a few hadn't played, at least they'd have seen the leagues and it wouldn't come as so much of a shock.

Now clearly you're angling to turn this into a "ooooh look he's stereotyping foreigners", but I'm sorry to disappoint. As a said in my post they "might not" fancy the fight. Not because they are foreign and predisposed to some kind of lack of bottle, but because they face a different set of issues.

Some will handle those issues, some won't... but I'd rather be going into a relegation with the likes of Barton, Carroll, Noble, than Perez, Riviere, Sissoko. Who wouldn't have had the same issues and would have had knowledge of what was to come.

Pants.

I simply think it's about the individual.

Don't matter if they 'foriegn' or not. Some will take to a new country, a new challenge, a new set of team mates like a fish to water. Others won't.

Just because a side like Villa have filled their team full of 'foreigners' don't mean shit. They've filled them full of the wrong type of individual. Look how Kante and Mahrez have taken to England. And Knockaert actually. He loved playing in front of the City faithful. And now he's seemingly loving it back in ol Blighty.

You are sterotyping from what I can see. Lazy writing.

As for Joey fookin Barton I'd rather not be going anywhere with him. I think he's been relegated twice with two different sides. Kevin Nolan...absolutely.

Yes it's about the person, as I have clearly touched on above by saying some will deal with it and some won't. But you just cannot sit there and seriously suggest that foreign players do not face a whole load of issues, that those from this country do not.

Mahrez, Knockart and Kante got what they signed up for. Do you think they would have "loved playing here" in a shit unsuccessful team, in a team with a terrible team spirit and continued to "love playing here" once they got relegated to league one, probably with a large pay cut thrown in?

People not liking the above isn't just something isolated to foreigners. English players can hate all the above and want out (Shelvey will be the first out the door probably), but those issues added to all the others written previously make it something much harder to deal with, it's just human nature.

It would be exactly the same if it was an English player moving to a foreign club, where he's the "foreigner". If things go tits up, he's going to be under a load of different pressures than those from whatever country he might be in.

It's not stereotyping to suggest foreign players face different issues, which they clearly fecking do.

Didn't Kanté need time to adapt, too? Both on a personal and sportive level? He didn't feature for us initially at the start of this season - first starting line-up spot was Bournemouth away in late August, three games into the campaign.

Mahrez has been with the club for more than two years now. I do believe he struggled in his first half a year, too. Having to come to terms with English football and living in the UK: Weather, food, culture, language, rules - many of them very different to France.

Being able to participate in a full pre-season also helps in order to become an integral part, because you know your place within the squad from the get-go.

I'm sure there's plenty of examples to support Babs' argument that most foreign players so far didn't deliver straightaway in the Premier League (or the First Division back in the days). With strikers, it's easy. But how do you measure the impact or midfielders or defenders? Assists? Clean sheets?

It's not that easy, really. Lots of grey areas.

Raheem Sterling out for the rest of the season:

Well, it wasn't like they hardly saw it coming, given his previous injury record...

Don't wish injury on anybody but hopefully this rules him out of the Euros because he'd be one of Woy's banker picks and he's awful. I honestly think he's the most overrated player in Europe. Without that blistering pace he'd be a League 1 player.

I'm not saying they don't deliver straight away (some do, some don't).

I said I think the amount of foreigners they have this time could impact on them next season compared to when they last got relegated, where they had a core of your old school type of English player. Will a player from abroad be as willing to drop down to a league they don't know, one they didn't sign up for... when they're away from home, family, friends. Out of the lime light, in club that seems to have a terrible team spirit?

In my opinion, I think it's far more likely they would head for the hills and want to go home, or they would find it harder to cope with. Just as I think it would be exactly the same for an English player abroad, when everything has gone tits up for him and the move clearly hasn't worked how they thought. That's not saying it's the same for everyone. As I've said several times, some will be able to deal with it some won't.... But I think you're more likely to be able to deal with it if it's your own country surrounded by the same things you always have been.

Time to put the spade away Babs :)

Stripped of his caps?  What are they gonna do, scrub his name from match records and force him to relinquish his memories of playing for the national team? lol

I'm tired of England producing these one dimensional rapid footbsllers, Sterling, Walcott, Lennon etc I wish we produced more players like Riyad Mahrez and David Silva types who are not uber athletes but can actually dribble and see a pass with good vision.

Nice that the PFA have confirmed it's "unlikely" he'll play pro football again.  Good to know the sport doesn't discriminate against paedos and he still has a chance.

Add oxlade-chamberlain, townsend, and zaha to that list.

Sterling is only 21, he's obviously not going to be the finished product yet.

Fantastic talent, why we love writing off players before they've hit puberty in this country I don't know. He's certainly not 'crap,' for crying out loud.
