Charlie Austin £12m bid rejected

The London Evening Standard reports that QPR will offer Charlie Austin a new deal if no one meets their £15m asking price in this transfer window.

The 26-year-old striker has just one year left on his current contract and has attracted attention from a number of clubs.

"We are now into the season and want to settle our side down as quickly as possible," said QPR director of football Les Ferdinand. "It's not good for the club, it's not good for Charlie — it's not good for anyone.

"The price is still £15m and the only firm bid that has come in is still from Leicester. Everyone feels that bids are going to come in for him, it's just a matter of when. But if a club doesn't pay the fee, then we will offer him a new contract to get him to stay."

15 bloody million, taking the piss that

I think even if we met the 15million, then he would turn us down anyway. Seems to be a real London boy and probably only move away from there if it was a top 10 club.

I don't think he has proved he is good enough yet to dictate what Premiership team he should go to but I would like him here. Think he would get loads of goals with our attacking play.

If Nuge goes, then I think we need another striker as an injury or two and we are seriously lacking

I'm not sure if he'd fit into our system. Who would you drop to have him in the starting 11 on Saturday? He is a better finisher than Vardy, but i don't think his work ethic is as strong, he isn't as fast (who is tho) and many of our opportunities come from effort made by the forwards hassling the opponents into errors, or from out-and-out pace with through balls over the top or down the wings. We already have an alternative to that in Ulloa, is Austin gonna be a 15m alternative to him, or would his fee command a starting place? I'd say that if he were to sign he'd expect to be a starter, i just don't see how he fits naturally into our set up in the way Okazaki did on Saturday, who for me is an upgrade on Nugent.

Spend the money on Dwight Gayle not Charlie Austin.

I thought that when I saw Bristol City bidding £8 mill!

Why would he sign a new deal at a championship side?

He'll be a free agent next season costing nothing to the team who take him on allowing him a signing on fee and higher wages.

Bristol frigging City. Here we go a another 100 pager on the horizon.

Getting some mixed feelings from BC fans on their forum, some saying he's a signing to appease Cotterill for lack of transfer funds this summer and that he probably wont sign

Think Gayle is really underrated, he's scored 18 in 24 starts!

What season was that in?  Nothing like real facts getting in the way of opinion.  http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dwight-gayle/leistungsdaten/spieler/196522/plus/?saison=ges

Lets replace one player who would be sitting on the bench all season and not scoring goals for an even worse player costing more who will sit on the bench and not score goals.

The bottom line is we don't need Austin and he wouldn't come here

We said this last season when the window closed.. Let's not make the same again! We struggled to score for most of last season and let's be honest that Sunderland game is probably going to be the easiest we have all season

I'm on about Dwight Gayle, we don't need someone of his level clogging up the bench draining resources.  Dwight Gayle should never be the answer.

Austin would be great but he wouldn't come to us so i'm not too fussed, I have faith in the players we have.  Shinji and Kram over Nuge and Wood, Albrighton and Mahrez in attacking positions instead of not in the team playing negative formations during the dark period.

Sunderland may have been a poor team but they were also worse last season when we couldn't score.

I'm pretty sure we have no interest in Austin.

We have very similar player in Ulloa and I don't think Austin is enough of an upgrade so we would need a buyer for Leonardo first.

Also I think Ranieri will want us to be a quick, pressing and counter attacking team and Austin is unsuitable for a team like that.

Conclusion: Keep our powder dry and move on.

I think Dwight Gayle would be a step backwards judging by links to players recently.

Austin is a good player and will undoubtedly get goals, but does he fit in with the style Rainieri wants with pressure high up the pitch?

With the cost of strikers these days would it suggest we could pay a little over the odds? Rondon to WBA for £15m for example indicates that transfer fee's are getting a little inflated! Some would argue the £4m offered for Nuge from Boro is far more money than they should pay.

I think Austin would be a good move for a different dimension to our attack, but would it more likely suggest the end for Ulloa rather than Kram given age and potential?

Someone wants rid of Kram and in with Austin? NO ****ING THANK YOU. One is yet to realise his talent, the other, IMO is likely to turn out to be a one season wonder in the prem and may get found out if/when he joins another prem club.

If he was such a top notch player, why's he still on the books at QPR?

Swindon Burnely?

Seeing WBA last night I am so please we missed out on Lambert.  Forget Austin, we need this elusive, creative and experienced CM.

If Nuge goes, we have a few in the under 21's that can sit on the bench. Conrad can come back on a short term contract and teach them all the correct sitting positions.
