Is Albrighton good enough to play for England?

i agree on the ruthlessness but it didn't work for pearson did it lol them first 30 odd games ay!!

You mean the first 1/5 of the season where results led us to being in the top half and then the next 3/5 where we stayed in touching distance of the teams around us (in a tough premier league, with high scoring points)? Of course we know what happened in the last 1/5.

When Marx first arrived he had little fitness and a few personal issues to sort out. Pearson and the club played a huge role in getting him back to full fitness and gave him the stepping stone and fresh start he needed after a tough time personally and professionally at Villa.

You don't know the full circumstances of the situation, so why comment in such a derogatory way.

As for an England call up, he plays well in our team because the pace and high pressure game suits him. I don't think he would play so well in a slow build squad, traditional bomb down the wing players are dying out, especially at international level where everyone wants to pretty much pass the ball in the net.

Not unless a similar situation to Vardy's occurs.

I think there are a few good right wingers who get in ahead of him. Walcott, Ox and Sterling just off the top of my head.

None of which have the quality on the ball that he does. They have pace admittedly but not his ability. Let's face it, zero pace didn't stop Beckham having an international career.

If he could add goals from free kicks then, that would significantly raise his profile.

He should be in the squad, if only to offer some variety.

Quality player, great delivery and scored a few. But does he have enough to gain a cap?

Absolutely, certainly in an England Friendly. Doesn't play for one of the big 6 though, so that's a big disadvantage straight away.

I promised myself I wouldn't get drawn into this sort of stuff - because it's well behind us now, but to categorise the "3/5th's of the season" you mention as 'staying within touching distance of those around us' I would suggest, is at best putting a rather a positive spin on it, verging on untrue.

A 14th place finish in the end - no complaints whatsoever, but in that period we lost game after game after game, playing some turgid football. We went from top 6 (?) to 7 points from safety cut adrift at the bottom in a run of form that made it look like we wouldn't beat Derby's record low points tally. Many took passing that total as a time to celebrate during an appauling sequence of results.

No question, that in that 3/5ths of a season our form was as bad as almost any team had shown in PL history.

Thankfully, all is well that ends well.

Not sure he is up to England standard, but its nice that we have finally after nearly 20 years found someone on a par with Guppy in terms of quality of delivery.

But that's just the premier league, teams at the the bottom often have turgid runs like we did. We didn't lose game after game either and plaudits credited us on our desire to continue to play good football. People are just horrifically twisting the truth and using our points tally at the time to try and say Pearson was crap, which he was far from. You also forget that our line up of games after the new year were terrible and the focus was always to stay in touching distance for our easier run in. It worked, Nige commanded that, he was still in charge for that last part you know. Your facts regarding premier league history are also incorrect, other teams have done much worse.

but but Cambiasso told NP how to set us up for those last few games so he shouldn't get any credit lol

I don't think he's ever had a bad game for us,

Even in the rare occasions he played befour the end of the season he seemed a stand out player that we was crying out for to play week in week out

yeah hes abit like milner, never has a bad game but hardly shouted about.

He's improved since he's arrived here. He was a fantastic player at Villa that was under used. Lambert was never forgiven for letting him go. People give all this hype on Sterling on the wing, but Sterling rarely can stay on his feet.

Can honestly see there being genuine calls for him to be called up at this rate. I think he's quality.

The question is why didn't Pearson play Albrighton consistently much earlier in the season?

Perplexing one that.

I don't think he is quite ready for a call up yet, but if he carries on with this form for the rest of the season then I don't see why not. Also I was surprised to see he was only 25, I thought he was a couple of years older. Villa may now be wondering why on earth they let him go for free.

Anyway, the main point I want to make about Albrighton is how well suited he was to the left midfield spot on Saturday. To be honest, I didn't think it would suit him, but his swinging crosses which he is so good at are much more dangerous from the left hand side - we scored twice because of them!

Claudio Ranieri deserves immense credit for making this decision. Very good first impressions from the new manager.

Out of interest how many assists has he got in the last 10 games for us? It must be 5+ and he's chipped in with 3 goals as well. Very impressed by the lad.

2 vs Newcastle in May, 2 on saturday - so 4.

When Marx first arrived he had little fitness and a few personal issues to sort out.

That he's been dead for 130 odd years probably didn't help.
