Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 Fair enough, I haven't yet had the chance to stray out of Leicestershire yet but I've been thinking of an excuse to go up to Brum. Always heard good things about Sheffield but it'd require some basic logistical planning and my lot can barely plan a night out in Leicester, so we'll have to see about that one. Hour on the train! (I suppose that is basic logistical planning)
Finnaldo Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 Hour on the train! (I suppose that is basic logistical planning) Yep you're seriously overestimating these people's capabilities
Stadt Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 You're 18. You're too young to be arsed about shit like this - get in Mosh, dance to some Precious Time Maccabees and get off with a hot Chung lookalike you tinman I'm not 18 yet, I'd probably go in, my admittedly limited contribution is that I know some green hair, angsty, I'm a better human being because I listen to vinyl types.

Kinowe Soorie Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 Last time I went must have been at least 4 years ago unless I've forgot one. Went out with my Mrs to Blue Note in Derby and was literally slapping gash off so don't go anymore because it's not fair on my everlasting bundle of joy. I'm no supermodel but for some reason when I walk into a club it's like women think I'm John Travolta. Absolute magnet. Used to go at least twice a week though. Great days Eddie, great days. The Leicestershire clubs I remember going regularly to are Continental in Ashby, that countryside one in Griffydam or nearby and DieHard. Peace, Love and Unity

This is going back years though. We saw a band called 'The Inspiral Carpets' at the Uni.We were all fans of 80's indie so if in town would sometimes go to 'Sector 5' (anyone remember that?), the Fan Club or sometimes the Bear Cage.Though maybe not strictly a nightclub, I remember seeing bands like 'The Darling Buds' and 'Ride' at the Newcastle Riverside. That was a cool little place and Ride were bloody loud! I know this isn't a 'gig' thread but thought I'd share these vids of bands we saw at clubs. Watching bands at small venues is so much better in my experience. Whoops..nearly forgot 'The Sundays'..also at the Newcastle Riverside: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n35C0j3LLB0

Guest MattP Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 Used to do four nights out a week in the glory days between 18-22. Undecided on a Monday, Life on a Thursday, Creation on a Saturday and something like Zanzibar or Fan Club on a Sunday. Haven't set foot in a nightclub for years now, really loses it's appeal when you hit the last twenties and as Spherical says, recoveries are a nightmare these days, if I get pissed Friday, Saturday and Sunday I'm often not right until Tuesday.
Captain... Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 Last few times have been on stag dos, I was always of the opinion a nightclub was just the place you went when the pubs shut, so now it isn't an issue and living in London staying out any later that the last tube is just a fvcker. Nightclubs need to adapt and focus on offering something other than a place to drink until 2, I can guarantee that 90% of those that have closed were that sort of place, just stick on any old shit as loud as possible, water down the drinks and employ some thugs as bouncers. There will always be a place for those that offer something that people might want, good quality music, be it dance, alternative, metal, reasonable prices and a good atmosphere.
maynefox Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 In Norwich a few of the night clubs have started to close down/reduce the nights that they open. Being in my early twenties, I don't mind clubs. However, I am warming myself to the bars. More chilled out, less "trouble" and often no dickheads in there.
EastAnglianFox Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 Used to love a bit of Pulse in Loughborough back in the day..absolute filth of a place but was always rammed most nights of the week. A bit of Jimmy Dean's on a Sunday night, although you were up shit creek if u didn't get a taxi quickish when it closed as all the lights went out and your stuck in the middle of nowhere. Not really been since Passion closed down and Norwich doesn't have much to offer but some very cool bars.

I think I would look like some sort of preditor these days. There used to be this 50 year old odd ball in Cambridge back in the day" Disco Kenny" off his T!ts ,and at the end of the night would do a one man dance skidding on his knees like an 8 year old at a wedding. He used to get a free bottle of fizzy P!ss for doing it. Everyone in Cambridge of my age knows him and there is a "Disco Kenny" watch on Facebook.if you walk through town at the weekend you see people point at him and mouth to their kids who he is.Legend. http://avaragado.org/2011/08/22/disco-kenny-the-bin-busker-and-me/
cambridgefox Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 Disco Kenny Just for you AKCJ,including one of his catchphrases.
RonnieTodger Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 Mosh is an absolute dive but they played some great stuff on the middle floor.

I think some are open in the 'day time' for casual cafe purposes, but not many.

Guest Col city fan Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 I definitely read this in an Alan partridge voice I'm 47 this year man! Those type of bands was my era. And I'm not at all sorry. 80's indie was magical!
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 I definitely read this in an Alan partridge voice I read it in a yorkshire accent with the Hovis advert music playing in the back ground.

BoneDog Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 Peace, Love and Unity Haha I think I might still have my membership card in an old wallet. For saying how many nutters were in there it was actually very peaceful. I only noticed one bit of trouble over a few year period. I never went to jimmy deans myself. Was slightly before my time Where was the continental in Ashby? Jimmy Dean's that was the one, I'd forgot the name. The Continental was next to The Lamb pub, just down the back through that archway. Last time I went Ashby was after Leeds away Boxing Day and I was too drunk to remember to check if it's still there or not. Was in The Lamb aswell that night. A bit of Jimmy Dean's on a Sunday night, although you were up shit creek if u didn't get a taxi quickish when it closed as all the lights went out and your stuck in the middle of nowhere. When we went there it was always a Sunday night but always had someone who was driving so never had the taxi problem. Don't think many folk had a mobile phone back then so if you missed a taxi it would have been a long drunk walk home.

We were usually downstairs and it kept us fit! Looking back can't believe I didn't go Starlite. We used to mainly go Venue 44, JayJay's/Mr B's and Die Hard.
