Koke Posted 16 February 2016 Posted 16 February 2016 It's a good experience for Gray and he will learn a lot more tactically in high pressure games like Sundday rather than coming on in the last 10 minutes in a 3-0 hammering of Stoke, and that will keep him in good stead. Taking off Mahrez was the right decision imo. We were gonna be backs to the wall constantly and his defensive work is not particularly good. I could see what Ranieri was trying to do with his subs and the thought process behind it. Arsenal's first shot on target was Walcott's goal in the 70th minute. We had them where we wanted them. Us and Spurs are tactically streets ahead of anyone else in this league this season. I'm actually more confident despite the defeat.
Algerian Posted 16 February 2016 Posted 16 February 2016 Mahrez was clearly not on song against Arsenal. He missed some easy passes, something he did not in all previous games. Also, his through balls were not as accurate as before. Globally he lacked inspiration. He was clearly not physically ready for the battle. I've read last posts here talking about his future, from what i heard during his last trip to Algeria in last january when he got the Algerian player of the year award, he is very happy at Leicester and not concerned at all by all the fuss around his future destination. He is focused on the final league race, and is pretty sure that City will qualify for a European cup next year. Playing in Europe would be the next exciting challenge for him, as he doesn't want to play for a top European club at all costs -for the moment- despite supposed interests. This is partly due to his personality, he is someone that aims to reach the heights gradually (Has previously signed for Le Havre, Ligue 2 in France despite being courted by Marseille and PSG). And with Leicester playing in Europe next year, he would be excited to start a new season there. According the whispers, the only thing he dreams that it changes at his current club is the counter-attacking style which assigns him heavy defensive task. He would love playing in a more possession-oriented style in which he would have less defensive instructions and more energy to fully show his skills. In my opinion, i think he expects that with new good signings in summer, Leicester will be technically stronger and capable of keeping more possession of the ball.

I actually thought he had just started to get into the game, just before the red card came. For me when you are under the cosh, it's about players who can get you up the pitch and relieve pressure, for me those 2 players are Vardy and Mahrez, if he had left Okazaki on to press I could have accepted Mahrez going off but to take both of was a poor decision, for me he could have taken okazaki off to bring was on, then allowed Mahrez to roam a little, in the hope he could get closer to Vardy. He was left so isolated and Kasper's kicking did him no favours.
Babylon Posted 16 February 2016 Posted 16 February 2016 I actually thought he had just started to get into the game, just before the red card came. So did I, he had Monreal on toast more than once in that corner.
lgfualol Posted 16 February 2016 Posted 16 February 2016 My worry is that the more famous he gets, the people around him might get it in his head that he needs to move. Hopefully won't happen, I think staying and having a constant place in the team, in the Prem and CL would be great for him.
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 16 February 2016 Posted 16 February 2016 I thought Gray did well. I remember one sterling piece of defending, basically taking it off Walcott's foot I think
danny. Posted 16 February 2016 Posted 16 February 2016 I also thought Gray was solid, especially in defence, was quite surprised to read on here people slating him
Koke Posted 16 February 2016 Posted 16 February 2016 I also thought Gray was solid, especially in defence, was quite surprised to read on here people slating him He didn't track Walcott for his goal. He lost concentration for a brief moment and it was 1-1. Despite that he did okay. He is 19. He will learn a lot tactically from being trusted in such a huge high profile game.
benn Posted 17 February 2016 Posted 17 February 2016 The negociation with Mahrez its about 4M€ with leicester (salary revaluation). and when i see for exampel : Wayne Rooney =18,5 MLouis Van Gaal 10M€Eden Hazard =15,6 M€Fàbregas (11,4M€)Özil = 12 M€Olivier Giroud = 7 M€Petr Cech =7,4M€ the list is too long so if iam Mahrez i will think too much, because the player play for about 10 years , after that his career will finish ? so the player will think carfuly about his life my be in business, coach, i dont know and I don't think the fans will help him after his footballing career. so business is business

SpinneyHillRanger Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 strangly enough i think our team acaters for Mahrez more than a possession based team like Man Utd.... or should i say manager like LVG or Guardiola. Those type of managers would really expect a lot more from their wide players in terms of tracking back, pressing with high intensity. Ranieri only requests he keeps the shape of the midfield even though he rarely makes tackles etc. I think he is perfect for Leicester and Leicester for him.

It is true he doesn't employ any stand or slide tackles in his defensive work, still he accomplishes fair efforts in running back to bring a covering help for his RB. As Ranieri uses deep back defense coupled with aggressive interceptions from Kante and Drinkwater (especially against Big teams), the role of Mahrez in defense is more oriented to covering Simpson and blocking passing lines rather than aggresively intercepting the ball. If you compare Mahrez to Ozil (best assist man) this year, i think the german in average runs much less than Riyad. The latter being obliged to go back 70 yards from opposite goal.

Guest Col city fan Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 I think Mahrez could play for Barcelona...As a squad player. He's that good. We'll have a job to keep him in the summer. If he ever leaves City, he'll play in a team where he doesn't need to defend. How often do you see Suarez or Messi getting back to defend?
benn Posted 20 February 2016 Posted 20 February 2016 about Mahrez if he stay with Leicester fo me is the best decision. the problem for Leicester is the defence 29 goals in 26 is too much the most quality for the leader or the team to win the championship if the defence look Tottenham just 20 goals, Arsenal 23 goals, so it will be very hard for Leicester with this default, because this year its look like to be or not to be. big chance but hop it will happen
sdb Posted 20 February 2016 Posted 20 February 2016 Yeah but we've scored more than them and have more points! I'm sure they're both more attractive to Riyad.
richardsfoxes Posted 20 February 2016 Posted 20 February 2016 If we make top 4 i'd expect him and Kante to stay as i doubt a English club could prize them away unless they wanted to leave, it's teams outside of them prem that worry me about taking them both.

ARM1968 Posted 20 February 2016 Posted 20 February 2016 I'd expect £50 million for him to be honest. Not sure we'd find another though.

ryanman4 Posted 20 February 2016 Posted 20 February 2016 If bolasie is valued at £25million and Mane is valued at £30million then Mahrez is worth a heck of a lot more
