Kevin Phillips leaves for coaching role at Derby

Very sad news, always got a lot of respect for Kev and wish him all the best at derby.

My guess this is the beginning of Claudio bringing some of his own staff, won't be surprised if two or three exit club aswell soon.

Was a useful player, a decent progression into football coaching under Pearson following in the footsteps of Chris Powell - this is what I like to see at our club, players progress their careers just like KP - moving to Assistant Coach (manager) w.e is a big step up from striker coach however you look at it.

Happy for him, wonder who fills the vacant position - unless it's one of the already established Italians.

Why are people wishing him good luck, isn't that wishing Derby good luck?

Who seriously gives a rats ass about Derby County, they're nothing, they're no one - all we do is beat them.

KP sees it as a job promotion, which it is, not sleeping and marrying the enemy.

I

It's important to remember those less fortunate than yourselves.

our forwards play in a totally different style to the way KP played the game so I'd be fascinated to see what he imparts as a striker/forward coach - nevertheless he always struck me as a genuine sort of bloke and I've no doubt he sees himself as a future manager - I hope he succeeds in that (but not with the sheep)

IIRC, Phillips spoke to Derby before he signed a deal to play with us... And if I'm not mistaken, doesn't he live in Derby and his son play in Derby's youth team? That would probably have some effect on Phillips' decision.

I liked Phillips as a player--he was fantastic for several years thanks to his legs, and carried on for a while past that because of his head and his heart. I can only hope he takes care of Derby's attack but they lose every game 4-3 lol or he parlays this into a manager role soon.

Seemed like a nice bloke, but is it really a loss? He's only a striker coach.

Obviously I don't have visibility of what he actually brings, but isn't he a relatively small part of what was already a successful team when he came?

I can see myself eating my words now when we don't score for the next six games.

I was only saying on sunday that I could see him taking over when claudio finally steps down.

He still could... :dunno:

This is pretty much my reaction as well. I very much doubt he is irreplaceable so it's nothing to worry about.

So he's gone from 1st team coach to assistant 1st team coach and people are seeing that as a step up?

First team coach is literally just a coach who works with the first team, he's then gone on to be a position that appears to be equivalent to assistant manager, I'd say that's a step up.

There's absolutely ZERO chance we will replace him - There are way too many coaches at our club and I suspect he wont be the last to go.

Nothing against Ranieri bringing his own in, its to be expected. However, some must be finding their roles a liitle less busy this season.

I also think Shakey and Walsh will go when NP gets his new job. The club can't lose - keep them on under Ranieri so they dont have to pay them off when they inevitably follow NP. Ranieri gets their experience and foundations in the meantime. Win win

He lives in Lichfield, not Derby

This is what i dont get. I really dont get.

Why will Shakey and Walsh "Inevitably" leave when Pearson gets a new job?

Phillips has lef this role here for a BETTER role for his long term prospects, an assistant coach role will give him more power and may open the door to a management opportunity. This is understandable.

Shakey and Walsh will just be doing the same jobs as they are now, but likely be part of a failing club, worse facilities, worse group to work with, worse infastructure, worse league position and fan backing, worse owner backing, probably at a lower level and getting paid less.

Would you "inevitably" leave for that?
