whetstonefox Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 Can't see Vardy leaving in January, he has the chance to get to Euro 2016, strikes me that's his aim not more money and playing in a team not necessarily playing to his strengths. He's pretty much guaranteed to play every week, in a style he thrives in, if he goes it would only be in the summer, who knows where he and us for that matter will be. Mahrez I can see going in January, not cup tied for Europe, if he plays really well till xmas one of the big boys will come knocking, be hard for him to say no, but you never know he may just wait till the summer.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 If they want to leave let them. We shouldn't begrudge Vardy and Mahrez a chance of moving to a bigger club if they really want to. Ranieri obviously knows this. Mahrez almost certainly won't be here next September, but I think its the bigger Spanish clubs that will get him like N'zonzi at Stoke. Due to his age Vardy is a different matter.
fleckneymike Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 Having heard Mahrez's agent on the moan in earlier in the season we have nothing to worry about. He's essentially employed a Darren Lamb style figure
Fox92 Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 Drinkwater and Kante are just as valuable as Vardy and Mahrez. Little mention of Drinkwater in this thread, who has been excellent this season.
EverybodyDannsNow Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 Vardy- He won't go. If he was 22 then he would be off in a flash, but he's not, he's nearly 29. No big club will pay out for him at that age, especially because he relies on pace so much. Add to that the fact that he himself will know that he must keep scoring goals to get to the Euros, why would he disrupt his form by moving? Mahrez- we would be reluctant to sell, but I've always had the impression that he has an eye on the big clubs (why wouldn't he?!) He's under a big contract so if we were to sell him in Jan (I highly doubt we will) then we would demand a massive fee. Anything short of £20M would be laughed at. If his form continues, then I think he will go in the summer. If I had to predict, I would say Liverpool for £22M.
Countryfox Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 These players need to be retained at the club at all costs, and when I say at all costs, they are to demand a hefty transfer fee if they should ever leave: Mahrez Vardy Kanté Schlupp (Drinkwater) (Schmeichel) I do include Drinkwater in that list, because potentially - yes, potentially - he could become as influential to our midfield the way Scholes was for Manchester United. (Disclaimer: I am not saying Drinkwater has the same talent than Scholes or could ever be as good as Scholes - I'm simply making a relative comparison) Agree with all that except for ...... Kasper ... Think going forward there is room for a little improvement there.
MPH Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 Vardy is integral to how we play, to replace him would be nigh on impossible, therefore his real value to us is unquantifiable. Barry Hayles is without a club right now....
Biggus Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 I haven't seen the players views considered yet. Jamie Vardy came late to top flight football. He has missed probably 6 years of top flight earnings. For his family's sake he may decide to take an offer which would increase his income for the next 4 years - for his family. Riyad Mahrez -yes young enough, talented enough to go. God - I hope not on both counts.

That's an easy fix though, throw more money at him
MPH Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 I don't think we will lose anyone in January..... But at the end of the season? Think Vardy and Mahrez will be offered bigger contracts again!!
sycokilla Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 I think it will depend on where we are in the table at christmas and at the end of the season....if its top 7 I dont think Mahrez will leave...all players have ambitions but if they feel that the team is capable of competing near the top why would they leave? We dont need to sell any player. Also when I think about Mahrez, I tend to think he is a unique player and in a comparison with some one like Stirling he must be worth 40+.
SB87_LCFC Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 I don't think we will lose either Vardy or Mahrez in Jan. Mahrez signing a new contract in the summer and admitting his love for the club would suggest he is totally committed to us. As with Vardy, of the two as many have said I think more clubs would look at Mahrez ahead of Vardy based on age. Agree with everyone has a price, but the owners wouldn't jeopardise the team by selling our best player(s). Both lads have come from humble beginnings and are under no illusions they owe the club a lot for where they are today (well done to Steve Walsh and his scouting team on this front by the way), Mahrez was playing in the french non-league before he was signed for Le Harve. They both appreciate that the club - manager, coaches, team mates, owners, fans all believe in them and are reciprocal in their appreciation of all and sundry's support. We have to be realistic, there will probably be the odd bit of gossip come Jan, there was rumors Untied and PSG asked about Mahrez on deadline day, but that comes with the territory of having a good run. We wont do what Southampton did IMO

I think Jamie's background will make him appreciate what he has a lot more and the fact he has probably earned more so far in his time in Leicester than he would in his lifetime if we hadn't come in for him. He knows he will be very well paid here at Leicester, the tough decision could come if we get relegated and he has to take a pay cut or go to another prem club on prem wages, but at the moment I don't think other clubs will offer him much more than he is on here and if they do he probably wouldn't take it.
Russell sprout Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 Mahrez contract on a playing side won't be worth the paper it's written on, What it insured was that we will get some good money for him,the same for any player nowadays
Len Finsbury Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 People talk about Vardy's age being a factor in him staying but Liverpool paid £4 million for Ricky Lambert - wasn't he 30? I know his game wasn't based around pace like Vardy but never rule it out. If he really wanted to force a move, he'd get one, it just depends how desperate a club are to secure his services.
Banks Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 Wouldn't accept anything more than around £20 million. Completely central to the way we play. Brilliant work-rate, pace, never gives opponents a moment's rest.
Izzy Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 Ranieri admitted Mahrez was angry and frustrated at being on the bench again at Southampton. I hope he knows what he's doing coz I'd hate it if Mahrez got really p1ssed off and wanted to leave in Jan. If he's fit he has to start for me. But then if he continues to put in MOTM performances the big boys will come sniffing. 'Hide him' to keep hold of him or use him and risk losing him. Tough one.
Vacamion Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 Much though we all want our goal machine to keep scoring, and putting aside his thrilling style of play and great attitude on the pitch, he will inevitably dry up at some point. All strikers do. Look at the difference in Kane from last year. How much is Rooney worth? He dries up occasionally. If we were offered more than £15m by someone with more money than sense, we should, reluctantly and wishing him all the best, sell. I don't expect this view to be popular.

No club in this league needs the money. It's why prices are inflating at the time. If a club wants a player that the other club wants to keep then the price will be high. £15m is peanuts nowadays. This isn't football manager.
Great Boos Up Posted 19 October 2015 Author Posted 19 October 2015 Why did we sell Lineker and Heskey? I'm sure they felt loyal to the club and still do. Answer: £££££££ ! "Hello my name is Benítez / Pellegrini who will lose my massive income this year unless I win something. Here is £20 million. No? OK here is £35 million for that player. Thanks, enjoy your relegation scrap..... bye!" Too good, too soon! we've been here before and that's why we don't spout off like Norwich, Bolton, Wolves, Derby and the many other clubs who think they have one season in the top flight and their the dogs bolloks. Stop talking about a poxy 10/12 million and answer the god damn question. When the big boys come, and they will, can we match the offer of these clubs when were still looking about for RB for a few million. Or can we cope without them and still grow ???
Les-TA-Jon Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 So you're saying there's a difference between £10m and £30m illustrating my point. I'm not saying we're not a selling club. I'm just saying that a club in our position doesn't need to sell it's best players for less than £20-30m.
