foxfanazer Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 IF and its a massive if we managed to miraculously occupy one of the champions league spots come the end of the season, what would this mean for us as a club? Would this be a healthy progression? Could we make it a smooth transition? We would effectively have to overhaul a large proportion of our squad to compete in the CL the following season which would go against our recent ethos of team spirit and hard work. Would we be able to attract a high enough calibre of players to take us to the next level or would we give the players that got us there a chance and risk being embarrassed? For what it's worth I think top 4 is beyond us this season but I just thought it would be interesting to get peoples thoughts on how we'd cope if the unthinkable happened
Lestoh Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 I don't think there's any particular need to improve the squad. Reality is, even with a major revamp we still wouldn't be able to produce a team of the callibre required to even reach the quarters. Take note of CL sides from smaller nations like Basel, have a go, maybe cause an upset early on, and just enjoy the additional revenue and notice you'll be getting. If by some miracle we do stay top 4 come the end, it would be a massive over-achievement. Concentrating on the league the following season is more important, because we could literally go from Champions League to Championship in the space of a season.

Yeah you've sort of touched on my point. Not some mych talking about our chances in the champions league itself but just being a club at that level. Do the owners see it as the perfect chance to throw money at it and skip what would've been 3 or 4 years of steady progression. Probably not explaining myself very well. Would a 'freak' season like this be beneficial to us in the long run or would we be better off carrying on in our sensible, steady journey that we've been on
Ric Flair Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 I think we just carry on regardless, we know we need to continue to strengthen and with the scouting setup we have I suspect they have different players for different scenario's, i.e players whom we might not have a chance of signing but we want and these we may then be able to get should we get in to europe. I'd snap anyone's hand off now for a top 10 finish let alone top 4.
Bayfox Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 Would be a healthy progression if the owners didn't go over board. Would still like us to progress gradually. Making the group stage and having 6 games would give us a taste and an insight to where we stood.
foxfanazer Posted 9 November 2015 Author Posted 9 November 2015 We aren't going to finish top 4.Great input

Fox92 Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 Great input Well what's the point in typing out a massive post. It's not going to happen. Just take everything one step at a time and look at how a top ten finish would help us. That's more realistic. Our current aim remains the same - those 40 points to stay up - regardless of our current form and current position.

Just thought it'd be an interesting discussion on what our fans think about the direction we're going in and how we would like to progress. I'd prefer us to do it gradually so it's easier to sustain
Jon the Hat Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 If, and it is a big one, the clubs who are better than us all managed to screw up to the extent that we fished in the top 4, this would be very very funny. especially given those clubs who have spent decades throwing millions at trying to get there. Honestly I think it could turn out badly, we would not attract players of CL standard as it would be clearly a one off, and the risk of either trying to carry a larger squad, or indeed trying to do it all without a larger squad, injuries etc, could be see us finish a lot lower than we might do otherwise. I would much prefer mid table and a cup final to be honest.
bluesbrothers Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 I will personally seek out and attend a Thai orgy if we finish in the top 4. I'll make sure my phone battery's dead when I arrive mind you.
Captain... Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 It would most likely mean Don Claudio has been leaving horses' heads in a lot of officials' beds. Really it would mean that 3 of Chelsea/Spurs/United/Liverpool really fvcked up, it would also mean that we would be onto a hiding in the CL. This season I would love us to get in the Europa League, either via the league or the cup, and that would be a phenomenal achievement, in some ways I think top 4 would be too much too soon and it would be all downhill from there and finishing 10th the next season would all of a sudden be a disappointment. Whereas 6th/a cup win would be a huge success, but one that we could handle and would give us something to build upon.

ARM1968 Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 It would mean that miracles happen. But we're going to win the league so they do.
lgfualol Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 I think it would kill us this early. We would need to spend about 150m+ on pretty much a new starting 11 to not let a Europe competition screw us in the prem and in the CL. Can you imagine if we got injuries and had De Laet and Schlupp as full backs against Barcelona.
GeorgeTheFox Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 It would mean that we are dreaming and/or in the matrix
Lestoh Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 I remember the pre-season against Real Madrid where we actually made a good fight of it - and that team was pretty awful. MAYBE WE'RE DESTINED TO RULE EUROPE LADS Edit: but I've just recalled our pre-season against Monaco and realised Europe isn't for us
foxes876 Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 Think we should just enjoy it while it lasts, once we've got 40 points on the board then I'll start dreaming of the Champions League.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 The players would have proved themselves to be good enough to qualify, add a couple more additions and we could make a fist of it
Izzy Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 It would mean Vichai's ambitions would be realised 12 months ahead of schedule.. http://footballleagueworld.co.uk/ambitious-plans-put-in-place-by-leicester-city-owner/#iFF4VMGC00x7Reve.97
Harry - LCFC Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 Obviously it would be massive. The boost in reputation we'd get would be significant and might allow us to sustain a top six finish for a few seasons in a row. If that were to happen it could potentially elevate us to a pretty elite level for a while. The trouble is I think it's all very unlikely. There have been plenty of good performers in the team this season but we've relied heavily on Vardy and Mahrez to score goals and I expect both to drop down from 'magnificent' to 'very good' eventually. I also think we've had one of the easier fixture lists so far - that suggests to me that ours is something of a false position at the moment. Once we've played the harder teams our league position will be more representative of how a good a team we are, probably a few places lower than where we are now.
Domsdad Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 Celtic qualify for the Champions league every year. Are we saying they are better than us? Granted they don't get very far but at least they compete.
tom27111 Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 It's pretty similar to the position Southampton were in last season. I think it was around Christmas when people really started to think maybe they could make the top 4. They faded away but still had a fantastic season. I'd be more than happy if we emulated that. If by some miracle we did achieve it, it'd put us in the position to go out and buy an incredible back 4. Add real competition for places, so we'd be looking at Fuchs and Huth fighting for their places. Further up the pitch, pretty much stick with what we've got, then build gradually, season by season, looking at consistently aiming for the top 6 and Europa League places.
justfoxes Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 We aren't going to finish top 4.How do you know that ?Most had lambasted us by employing Claudio Ranieri being bought in to take the helm Most had us being in a relegation dog fight most have been blown away with our form this season Vardy and Mahrez are like 2 new signings the rest of the squad has stepped up to perform wonders coming back from being behind in games only unbeaten once this season 5 wins short of Ranieri's target of 40points we are currently second in the league! So why can't we carry on our superb form and finish in the top four ? We have certainly shut a hell of a lot of our doubters this season and it feels absolutely FOOKING superb to see us riding high in the league, we have a long way to go and long may we continue our great form and continue to silence our critics and whatever position we finish come end of season top four top ten I for one will and have been so proud of our great club after so many years of pain and disappointment it's brilliant to have a bit of success and as I've said before May it last for a long time to come!!
