Mayofox Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 From the Irish Independent: Claudio Ranieri has challenged Leicester to pick up even more points in the second half of the season than they managed in the first, but still refused to talk about winning the title. The Foxes are second in the Premier League and are just a point away from Ranieri's pre-season target. The Italian wanted 40 points to guarantee survival and victory at home to Bournemouth today would see them past that mark. Ranieri admitted he did not expect to reach his goal so soon but now wants his men to eclipse it in the second half of the season. He said: "We'll try to do the same - as we've achieved 39 points then we'd like to achieve 40 points - one more point. I will be satisfied. Nobody can take our 39 points and we want to improve. We have a job to do because we make a lot of mistakes and we have to improve a lot. A success is maintaining the Premier League (status) but it is how we achieve to next 39 points." Ranieri dismissed any further talk about a title tilt. He said: "You would love it if I said, "We are champions". No, I say "we want to beat Bournemouth". "We can say, "Start to win the title" but it's not our job, our job is to win the next match."
DB11 Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 I read in his press conference he said that he wants another 39 or 40 points from the second half of the season?
MC Prussian Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 So, 40 points it still is. 40 additional points.
Aus Fox Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 79 points for the season, that should have us there or there abouts at the end of the season. Just trying to think which reverse fixtures will be the toughest to match our result in the first half of the season. We haven't really beaten any of the top sides a point against Spurs, United and City and losing to Arsenal and Liverpool. I don't see a game we will struggle to match the result of the first half of the campaign.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 79 points total, I'd be alright with that.
Thracian Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Points against Bournemouth today is what matters first.
Kilworthfox Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Points against Bournemouth today is what matters first. Spot on. I'm all for targets and confidence, but lets do our jobs.
FoxFossil Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 For me 68 points would be sensible target. For 8 out of last 10 years this would give a Champions league place. Means we could still lose up to 9 games and get into CL. Unbelievable. So then...Just win our 10 homes games and we're there. Starting today.
Tuna Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Ian Stringer @StringerSport 12m12 minutes ago Claudio Ranieri just told me on @BBCLeicester the new target for #LCFC this season is 79 points (Can someone explain how you post a tweet?).
weller54 Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 After the last three Matches................. 41
Itsthejoeker Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Well we started the season with a similar result against Bournemouth, no reason why we can't replicate the rest of the first 19 games.
STUHILL Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 70 points for me, whether he sets a new target like that, I am not so sure. Probably be more about taking each game and aiming for 3 points
foxes_rule1978 Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 After the last three Matches................. 41 That doesn't work out, we still got 2 points and 2 clean sheets

Nod.E Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 All this talk of targets is doing my head in. How can we possibly quantify where we are now and what we're capable of? We'll just keep trying to win football matches and we'll see where it takes us.

lgfualol Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Haha everyone here would have snapped your hand off for 40 points before the season. Now it's "we'll be lucky to get 60", after getting to 40 in 20 games.

Unbelievable really ... but those that are saying we will struggle to make 60 certainly had us down to be relegated, just trying to have another chance of a I told you so
bovril Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Correct me if I'm wrong but our highest ever in the PL era is 55 in the 99/00 season. Realistically we'll be disappointed if we don't improve on that. I think 60-65 is a good target that should get us around the top 6.
ealingfox Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 £50 Very tempting, but I don't want to think we won't show some ambition and bring in some quality over the next few weeks whilst our stock is high, so I wouldnt want to stake that much just yet.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 I'd be disappointed if Claudio's pandered to any journalist's questions about a points target. The answer after 40 points should just have been: "to try and win our next match". No need to put public pressure on anything, just keep going and see where it takes us. Stringer, of course, has been like a dog with a bone on this one and will be all over his 'exclusive' for the rest of the season, reminding us of the points target he uncovered.
