copunk Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 What would be the thinking from most of you? As in would you like a fairly big overhaul in the squad, splash the cash on big names and really try and take us as far as possible, or would you sign a few players, go with what we have and just take it for what it is, a massive bonus
Charl91 Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 Splash the cash, fo' sure. At the very least, we'd need a strong enough squad so that the extra games doesn't take it out of us. When we reach the CL final, we must have played at least an extra 10 games, surely? Our squad is just to thin to deal with that at the moment if we're gunning for the League title at the same time.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 No overhaul, if they do it they are good enough... But would need to add 2-3 quality additions and strengthen our depth for the extra fixtures
Soar Fox Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 Just leave it as it is. Neymar Messi Suarez would hate having to come up against Huth & Morgan
shailen Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 Sign some experienced players and quality but I don't want to see us change the core of the squad. I would rather see how far the soul of this team can go, rather than bringing in overpaid big names. But let's have this discussion when it happens. Long way to go still!
VLC86 Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 Just leave it as it is. Neymar Messi Suarez would hate having to come up against Huth & Morgan Wasyl on Suarez would be like a modern version of paper scissor stone but we all know elbow beats teeth every time.
Chester Dontlie Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 Yeah that was a strange case of mistyping. Happens to the best of us, I guess.
foxes21 Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 Instead of a big overhaul I think we should invest a higher percentage of our budget than usual, on some quality young talent for our u21 squad. Build for the future Imo. We already have the likes of Chilwell, Lawrence, Dodoo and we should add more quality to that list. I think 5 signings maximum for the first team. The usual Walsh bargains for me, no big time Charlies please. Few players that can improve our first eleven, a couple that can strengthen gaps in the squad. We don't want to lose our team spirit because of a big clear out.
Webbo Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 We'd need probably an extra 6 or 7 players to cope with the extra matches. I'll worry about that when it happens though.
Fox seen in Norwich Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 Let's wait till if we get there before started these type of threads. Cocky thread curse looms
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 As Webbo said we'd need extra cover but I don't think an overhaul, that'd upset the balance and possibly have a detrimental effect. A couple of big signings, and stronger competition around the squad. I'd like to think the starting 11 the first match next season isn't far from what we have now - the team spirit is unrivalled
Ian W LCFC Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 I wouldn't have a complete overhaul of the squad for a competition that we realistically have no chance of even coming close to winning. Just carry on with the plan that we've had for the last few seasons that's got us in this position, perhaps bring in 2/3 more players to cope with the extra games but on the whole just enjoy the games if we get there.

As in would you like a fairly big overhaul in the squad, splash the cash on big names and really try and take us as far as possible, or would you sign a few players, go with what we have and just take it for what it is, a massive bonus Why would we have a big overhaul. If we make the champions league our players deserve to play in it. Offer decent contracts to Mahrez, Vardy and Kante to keep them at the club then sign 2-3 top quality players. Overhauling the squad would be the worst thing we could do. Unless it's to the extent that Man City have done but I don't think the owners are that rich compared to Man City
The Year Of The Fox Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 Playing in the CL would mean almost nothing to me without the players that got us there in the first instance
splinterdream Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 If we make Champions League the goal would be to make Champions League the following season, so that would probably mean signing whatever talent we could whilst in that position to maintain our status as a top four club. To play loyalty to the players is like saying we should stick with the team that got us promoted from Championship. it never works.

I agree, can't think of one player who played in that promotion team who is any good now.

Rincewind Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 I believe CR has said he wants to invest in youth and build gradually. We have a good youth set up here and there will be plenty of younger players willing to come here. This is how Man Utd Arsenal etc work. CR was probably surprised a little at how well we have done this season. He was likely hoping to consolidate a place in the PL first. That may be his aim for next season so do not be disappointed with a 10th place finish next season. It will be the time for blooding new and young players for the future. It would be great to have a squad of 30 players who adapt to the way the players are now on and off the pitch.
lgfualol Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 Youth signings. Get talents that will push for first team more than the current ones ever will, there is really only Chilwell and Dodoo doing so at the moment unless someone can correct me. They will be easier than ever to attract to the club if we get CL and help us set up for the future. Also more squad depth of course. Not a whole lot more but Walsh will have fun.
Dan Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 Keep doing what we're doing. We've got a method that allows us to keep improving every year. Why change that?
Mickyblueeyes Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 The club needs to keep doing what it has been doing for the past few years. It works. No major overhaul just a few additions after proper, thoughtful scouting. I remember the January transfer window in our promotion season. The media already had us down as champions. A lot thought we'd add five or six players in readiness for the premier league season. If I remember rightly we bought two players spending £400k. Phillips on a free and Mahrez. We've done that continually. Apart from the start of Pearson's first full year back where an overhaul was needed we haven't really gone out and rebuilt a completely new squad. We seem to be doing that this transfer window also. I don't want to see a major overhaul just maybe three or four better prospects being brought in. Who add value to the squad and fit into the philosophy of the way things are done here. There's no reason these players can't compete in the Europa league/champions league and if they pull it off, it's the least they deserve. I'd much rather build in that manner then the way we did things under Sven.
Fox92 Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 We'd need loads of new players. Good players. Our depth isn't too good. Take away Vardy/Mahrez, Morgan/Huth, Drinkwater/Kante (like we'll probably do today) and all of a sudden we look weak. Compare that to Tottenham for example, who rotated over Christmas but still picked up results... They won away at Watford despite Walker, Davies and Eriksen not playing.

In all honesty I'd be more than happy to finish 10th next season if we finish in the top 4 this season.
