Thracian Posted 21 January 2016 Posted 21 January 2016 You herd it here first, Chilwell is the next Gareth Bale. Haha - it might be an interesting bet as to whether he's more likely play in Spain than to renew his contract here! And it's a dilemma we'll likely face more and more if our ambitions stay the same. It's one thing playing promising youngsters in Division One and quite another finding time and opportunity for them to play in The Premiership and perhaps even Europe. Managers have too much to lose to invite problems yet the ability levels and number of "promising" youngsters pressing for a chance will presumably increase. Loan spells offer experience but prove nothing - except how much more fun the youngsters find it to be playing games instead of sitting on a bench. I draw no conclusions but will just wait to see if anyone actually comes through to our first team. Can't say I'm especially optimistic. Only Schlupp's come through since we've been in The Premiership - or, indeed, since Pearson's arrival way back. And some would say Schlupp's only ever been a fringe player who's never quite evolved to be the talent he could be. The other who almost established himself was Liam Moore but he's already had his time here in my view. Chilwell and Tom Lawrence are presumably the next contenders. but the harvest's been pretty sparse lately, especially for the kind of money the Academy costs. It used to be quite interesting trying to pick out our future first teamers, especially when they reached reserves level and continued to develop their ability in a unit. The games attracted a decent crowd when played at Hinckley. That was until Mandaric's influence and the sudden infusion of players who wouldn't have flattered a decent schools team. I lost interest after that. The whole set up seemed to have no purpose except as an important resource for general and sporting career development, providing the opportunity for many youngsters to build a career in lower-level football, coaching, public relations, sports injuries or sports management and so on . All incredibly worthy and doubtless highly satisfying to the staff. But a long way from being a first team production line for Leicester City. Nowadays it's easier, and mostly makes better economic sense, to buy ready-made!
JPM1983 Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 What are the club playing at with Chilwell? He's a real prospect, with only 18 months left on his contract and on 'only' £800 a week. Read this morning that they're trying to negotiate a new contract with him for £2,500 a week. £2,500 is a paltry amount considering Arsenal have made a firm bid for him (and would comfortably offer him £10k plus per week); considering he could move to a Championship club and earn much more than £2,500 p/w, and considering he could replace Fuchs in time and be first choice LB. Think there is a real risk this lad could move on, which would be really disappointing.
Bedford Fox Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 No danger of him taking Fuchs shirt yet but a very good prospect and nice to see some strength in depth in the squad nowadays
Ric Flair Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 I'd consider Fuchs playing LCB and Chilwell at left back. Together they could be brilliant. Hugh hasn't impressed me this season.

MC Prussian Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 Rumoured to go out on loan again, and that once more to Huddersfield Town. The club are also prepared to offer him a new contract at £12k a week. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3425520/Transfer-news-LIVE-Follow-deadline-day-drama-happens.html (Reference further down the page)
Thracian Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 You herd it here first, Chilwell is the next Gareth Bale. Haha - if any of our Academy players had to feed off your support they'd all go hungry!
Alf Bentley Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 I'd consider Fuchs playing LCB and Chilwell at left back. Together they could be brilliant. Hugh hasn't impressed me this season. Hugh Grant? Spent too much time hanging out (literally) with the wrong sort of pros - Divine Brown instead of Wes Brown. Sorry, a joke for the OAPs.
NGoloMode Posted 17 March 2016 Posted 17 March 2016 Selected for the U21. For the first time or has he been capped for U21 before.
bluesbrothers Posted 17 March 2016 Posted 17 March 2016 Selected for the U21. For the first time or has he been capped for U21 before. Demarai Gray too! Just get Drinky in the seniors and this is a great day for LCFC.
Xen Posted 17 March 2016 Posted 17 March 2016 Demarai Gray too! Just get Drinky in the seniors and this is a great day for LCFC. In a few years England's entire left side could be Leicester players. Chillwell at LB, Gray at LM and Vardy at LW

I've never heard of about 8 of those players and I reckon 12 haven't played more than about 15 minutes of top flight football, Chilwell included.Cupboard is looking pretty bare.

It's not that bad I think for England.

Cupboard is looking pretty bare. It's the nature of an under 21 side that they will not have a lot of 1st team experience. So much pressure to win in the Prem that it's tough for young player to get a start.
oxford blue Posted 17 March 2016 Posted 17 March 2016 A pity he hasn't committed to a new contract...is the call-up just increasing the fee when he moves at the end of his current one?
NewEnglandFox Posted 17 March 2016 Posted 17 March 2016 Selected for the U21. For the first time or has he been capped for U21 before. He was called up in November but didn't make the bench.
Phube Posted 17 March 2016 Posted 17 March 2016 But usually an England U21 player playing regularly for a top club will just go straight into the full squad, hence the lack of 'names' in the U21's.
TheMightySystem Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Second choice Lb then, not bad considering he is 19. Will get more opportunities next season to fight for a first team place.
Countryfox Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Now sign that contract, laddy Fingers crossed its a Leicester one eh ?
Clever Fox Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Not sure he's going to sign otherwise why are we trying to sign the 6ft 5 inch Dutch Left Full Back.
Thracian Posted 19 March 2016 Posted 19 March 2016 I really don't think we should get sentimental over this issue. I've still to be convinced that Chilwell wholeheartedly wants to play for us. And even if he does, I'd question whether he was a good enough first choice for the kind of football we;ll be playing. And before I'm accused of "hatred" or some other such nonsense, Chilwell looked as good a teenaged left-back as I've seen in a Leicester shirt at any level. But that doesn't make him the finished article but then he wouldn't be the finished article at Arsenal or any other club at that level.
